Smile 2

Mi opinión sobre las secuelas de películas de terror equivale a un gran porcentaje copia lo hecho en el primer film; es algo bastante sencillo, en dónde existe algún simple cambio y en dónde se le ofrece al espectador o al fan la misma dosis de lo ya hecho; esa última característica es lo fundamental para definir que tan buena calidad es una nueva producción de una ahora franquicia porque dependiendo de eso se puede usar el término "Más de lo mismo" o "Eso es nuevo"; justamente esas dos frases son con las que defino este nuevo film de terror psicológico y sobrenatural.

My opinion about the sequels of horror movies is equivalent to a great percentage copy of what was done in the first film; it is something quite simple, where there is a simple change and where the viewer or the fan is offered the same dose of what has already been done; that last characteristic is the fundamental to define how good quality is a new production of a new franchise because depending on that you can use the term "More of the same" or "That's new"; precisely those two phrases are with which I define this new film of psychological and supernatural horror.

"Smile 2", secuela estrenada el pasado mes de octubre del 2024, relata la historia de "Skye Riley" una famosa Pop Star que está preparando su gran regreso a los escenarios después de vivir un año de traumas causado por una vida desenfrenada; justamente ese regreso ha creado miedo y gran presión en ella lo cual le hace recaer en el uso de drogas siendo eso el mínimo de sus problemas, ya que de una manera inesperada será víctima de una entidad que poco a poco la irá consumiendo su estabilidad emocional y mental que le hará decidir en salvar su carrera musical o mantenerse con vida.

"Smile 2", a sequel released last October 2024, tells the story of "Skye Riley" a famous Pop Star who is preparing her big comeback to the stage after living a year of traumas caused by an unbridled life; This return has created fear and great pressure on her, which makes her resort to drug use, which is the least of her problems, since she will unexpectedly fall victim to an entity that will gradually consume her emotional and mental stability and will make her decide whether to save her musical career or stay alive.

El primer film de esta franquicia me hizo pensar que Parker Finn tenía el potencial para ser de esa nueva camada de directores a tomar en cuenta; en este nuevo film, segundo largometraje que realiza en su muy corta carrera, sigue demostrando que tiene el potencial de hacer escenas impactantes y divertidas, de cambiar el estilo dependiendo de la escena a desarrollar así como el personaje que debe liderar dichas escenas; esto lo digo por lo trepidante del comienzo de esta película la cual es impresionante, toda una secuencia caótica y continúa nos ofrece un punto de vista diferente al que vamos a experimentar con la protagonista de esta historia, creo que eso es una referencia importante porque dependiendo quien es ese personaje es como se va desarrollando ese transitar hacia el extremo y loco final; opino que está es una excelente suma para este film en dónde Finn como director y guionista le brinda un ritmo inquietante, un seguimiento espeluznante de un personaje que no tiene tiempo para lidiar con todo lo extraño que le está sucediendo; está puede ser la gran diferencia entre ambas películas.

En el primer film, el personaje de "Rose Cotter" tenía una vida perfecta con su trabajo y relación amorosa lo cual se deconstruye al ser víctima de esa maldición; en esta oportunidad, todo lo referente a tener una vida perfecta no existe y eso se nota cuando cada vivencia antes y por supuesto después de que "Skye" es afectada por la entidad maligna, su vida es aún más caótica, terrorífica; eso hace que la destrucción emocional y mental que va experimentando sea intensa lo cual también genera esa sensación de sobrevivir, de no rendirse a pesar de no entender nada y por supuesto es el factor del miedo lo que genera en algún momento la esperanza de lucha y sobrevivir, ese aspecto es importante para esta historia que en esta oportunidad trata de temas sobre la presión que se ejerce en personas para que alcance un estándar impuesto por la familia y también por la sociedad lo cual va creando un quiebre mental perdiendo toda noción de realidad.

The first film of this franchise made me think that Parker Finn had the potential to be one of the new generation of directors to take into account; in this new film, his second feature film in his very short career, he continues to demonstrate that he has the potential to make shocking and funny scenes, to change the style depending on the scene to develop as well as the character who must lead such scenes; I say this because of the thrilling beginning of this film which is impressive, a whole chaotic sequence and continues to offer us a different point of view that we will experience with the protagonist of this story, I think that's an important reference because depending on who is that character is how it will develop this transition to the extreme and crazy end; I think this is an excellent addition to this film where Finn as director and screenwriter gives it a disturbing rhythm, a creepy follow up of a character who has no time to deal with all the strange things that are happening to her; this may be the big difference between both films.

In the first film, the character of "Rose Cotter" had a perfect life with her job and love relationship which is deconstructed when she is victim of that curse; in this opportunity, everything about having a perfect life does not exist and that is noticeable when every experience before and of course after "Skye" is affected by the evil entity, her life is even more chaotic, terrifying; This makes the emotional and mental destruction that she experiences intense, which also generates the feeling of survival, of not giving up despite not understanding anything and of course it is the fear factor that generates at some point the hope to fight and survive, that aspect is important for this story that in this opportunity deals with issues about the pressure exerted on people to reach a standard imposed by the family and also by society which creates a mental breakdown, losing all notion of reality.

Parte de lo anteriormente descrito funciona por la actuación de Naomi Scott; su interpretación de "Skye Riley" es magnífica, ya que tiene el gran trabajo de expresar con su rostro la frustración y desesperación de una persona dependiente no solo de estupefacientes, sino la necesidad de controlar todo lo que tiene a su alrededor, una gran falsedad porque al final ella no puede controlar muchos aspectos de su vida y eso es lo que causa todos los sucesos del film; el trabajo de Naomi a generando muchas opiniones positivas y era de las expectativas que me había creado con la película y puedo debo decir que todas estaban en lo cierto porque la película funciona gracias a su actuación, el quiebre que sufre su solitario personaje es terrorífico y eso hace que está secuela funcione; no hay duda que este es el mejor trabajo de la actriz.

Part of the above described works because of the performance of Naomi Scott; her interpretation of "Skye Riley" is magnificent, as she has the great job of expressing with her face the frustration and desperation of a person dependent not only on narcotics, but the need to control everything around her, a great falsehood because in the end she cannot control many aspects of her life and that is what causes all the events of the film; Naomi's work has generated many positive opinions and it was one of the expectations that I had created with the film and I can say that all of them were right because the film works thanks to her performance, the break that her lonely character suffers is terrifying and that makes this sequel works; there is no doubt that this is the best work of the actress.

Smile 2 es una correcta secuela que destaca al ser más gráfica e impactante las escenas de las muertes y tener un ritmo trepidante el cual empuja a un predecible final, justamente eso puede ser lo que desanime al público que ve vea este film, pero para mí este es una parte de todo un extenso panorama el cual pronto tendrá una necesaria tercera película. Está película no solo cuenta con lo predecible como un punto negativo, ya que cuenta con otra característica más la cual es la poca originalidad para desarrollar su tercer y final acto, el cual tiene similitud con el film "Truth or Dare" (2018), pero no solamente eso sino también lo referente a ver a personas sonriendo de manera macabra mientras los afectados van cada vez adentrándose en la maldición, pero aparte de todo eso, Smile 2 es un divertido film, con una excelente historia y muy buena actuación de su protagonista así como un crecimiento en lo que es en antagonista principal aunque todavía se mantiene secretos que inevitablemente serán expuestos en una próxima secuela, esa es más que nada mi predicción y expectativa en una nueva historia en esta franquicia.

Smile 2 is a correct sequel that stands out for being more graphic and shocking the scenes of the deaths and have a fast pace which pushes to a predictable ending, just that may be what discourages the public to see this film, but for me this is a part of an extensive panorama which will soon have a necessary third film. This film not only has the predictable as a negative point, as it has another feature which is the lack of originality to develop its third and final act, which has similarities with the film "Truth or Dare" (2018), but not only that but also the reference to see people smiling in a macabre way while those affected are getting deeper and deeper into the curse, but apart from all that, Smile 2 is a fun film, with an excellent story and very good performance of its protagonist as well as a growth in what is in main antagonist although it still keeps secrets that will inevitably be exposed in an upcoming sequel, that's mostly my prediction and expectation in a new story in this franchise.
