Algunas veces pienso que Netflix le da "luz verde" a diferentes proyectos cinematográficos los cuales son muy buenas ideas, son buenas historias de inicio, pero creo que en el desarrollo se va desgastando y eso hace que sean al final películas olvidables, es claro que existe esa división en dónde está el grupo de películas que representa a esta marca de streaming en los grandes premios y están los otros en dónde puede entretener a cierto público en un fin de semana, justamente este nuevo film de Netflix pertenece a este segundo grupo.

Sometimes I think that Netflix gives "green light" to different film projects which are very good ideas, they are good stories at the beginning, but I think that in the development it wears out and that makes them forgettable films in the end, it is clear that there is that division where there is the group of films that represents this streaming brand in the big awards and there are the others where it can entertain a certain audience in a weekend, just this new Netflix film belongs to this second group.
"Sweet Girl" nos relata la historia de Ray Cooper que debe enfrentar el dolor de ver a su hermosa familia quebrarse por cómo su esposa, Amanda, cada vez va más cediendo contra el Cáncer, él, su esposa y su hija Rachel tienen una sola esperanza el cual es un medicamento que podrá ayudarla a superar la enfermedad, pero una decisión de un alto ejecutivo cierra toda posibilidad de obtener ese medicamento significando una sentencia de muerte para su esposa, eso hará que Ray sienta un gran dolor y rabia contra quienes los engañaron con falsas esperanzas, transformándolo en venganza y no descansara hasta que todo paguen por lo que le hicieron.
"Sweet Girl" tells the story of Ray Cooper who must face the pain of seeing his beautiful family broken by how his wife, Amanda, is increasingly succumbing to cancer, he, his wife and his daughter Rachel have only one hope which is a drug that can help her overcome the disease, But a decision of a high executive closes all possibility of obtaining that medicine meaning a death sentence for his wife, that will make Ray feel a great pain and rage against those who deceived them with false hopes, transforming it into revenge and he will not rest until they pay for what they did to him.
La dirección vino por parte de Brian Andrew Mendoza, quien hace su debut como director, anteriormente cumplía funciones como productor de diferentes proyectos, pero en este decide dar un paso adelante y ser su primer trabajo desde la dirección; me gusta su trabajo de cámara en las muchas escenas de combate que tiene este film, en cómo está siempre muy cerca en las tomas y creo que es una gran decisión porque todos los combates son mano a mano, no son esas típicas escenas que vemos en films de artes marciales ya que en cada pelea predomina la lucha, en eso puedo decir que hay un buen trabajo de este director.
La historia es lo que dividido al público que ve este film, esta fue escrito por Gregg Hurwitz y Philip Eisner, está no es una historia original, pero la idea de la cual está hecha y que es lo difícil de superar la perdida de alguien a quien amas puede generar un quiebre mental, ya no sabes que es verdad o ficción, caes en un espiral de locura y pierdes la noción de lo que más quieres, yo entiendo y comprendo todas las decisiones tomadas para el desarrollo de esta historia y hasta puedo decir que me gustaron, mi problema con todo esto va por la creación de algunos personajes que hasta pueden hacer aún más caricaturesca de lo que puede ser, pero en defensa del film (otra más) está historia es sobre alguien que no tiene una mente estable y todo lo que hace es motivado por la rabia, odio y es por eso que en su mente todos son enemigos.
The direction came from Brian Andrew Mendoza, who makes his debut as a director, previously fulfilled functions as a producer of different projects, but in this he decides to take a step forward and be his first work from the direction; I like his camera work in the many combat scenes that this film has, in how he is always very close in the shots and I think it's a great decision because all the fights are hand to hand, they are not those typical scenes we see in martial arts films since in each fight predominates the fight, in that I can say that there is a good work of this director.
The story is what divided the audience that sees this film, this was written by Gregg Hurwitz and Philip Eisner, this is not an original story, but the idea of which is made and that is how difficult to overcome the loss of someone you love can generate a mental breakdown, you no longer know what is truth or fiction, you fall into a spiral of madness and lose track of what you love the most, I understand and understand all the decisions taken for the development of this story and I can even say that I liked them, my problem with all this goes for the creation of some characters that can even make even more caricatured than it can be, but in defense of the film (another one) this story is about someone who does not have a stable mind and everything he does is motivated by anger, hatred and that is why in his mind everyone is an enemy.
Ahora mi crítica sobre este film va más que nada en las actuaciones, todas son regulares y no me gustaron mucho; Jason Momoa tiene una buena escena en dónde demuestra vergüenza, desesperación y tristeza, pero en la culminación de esa escena no es la mejor, creo que es lo más destacable de la película, sobre el trabajo de Isabela Merced es el que menos me gustó a pesar de su desempeño en las escenas de acción, mostrando buen compromiso, creo que en otras escenas no es muy convincente y para mí falla en esta historia, lo otro es las actuaciones de los villanos de la película, son como que muy forzado, era una gran necesidad de mostrarlos como malas personas y eso me pareció nada bueno, sin ninguna duda que las actuaciones no son lo mejor.
Now my criticism about this film goes mostly on the performances, all of them are regular and I didn't like them very much; Jason Momoa has a good scene where he shows shame, desperation and sadness, but in the culmination of that scene is not the best, I think it is the most remarkable of the film, about the work of Isabela Merced is the one I liked the least despite her performance in the action scenes, showing good commitment, I think that in other scenes is not very convincing and for me fails in this story, the other thing is the performances of the villains of the film, are like that very forced, it was a great need to show them as bad people and that seemed to me not good at all, without any doubt that the performances are not the best.
Para ser sincero está era una película que no quería ver, desde el momento que vi el tráiler no sentí que fuera una prioridad y que pudiera dejarla para otra oportunidad, al verla pude verificar que era un film regular, mucha influencia de "El Fugitivo" y de otros films de acción de los 90', historias de conspiraciones y dónde alguien debe enfrentar a un grupo de poderosos para poder hacer justicia, tienes cosas buenas y unas no tantas, pero creo que lo peor de todo lo que rodea este film es la promoción de un importante spoiler por parte de Netflix, creo que personas (como yo) que no vieron de forma inmediata está película pueden ver afectado el desarrollo del film a saber que sucede en esta historia y con respecto a eso defiendo toda decisión solo me fuera gustado que fuera sido mejor desarrollado, tanto en historia como en actuación y seguro fuera sido mucho mejor. Al final Sweet Girl es otra película más del montón, nada especial y que podrá servir para ver un domingo en la tarde, cosa que sirve para esta plataforma y al final eso es lo que a ellos importa, en lo personal puedo aconsejar verla con muy pocas expectativas y puede ser de que les pueda gustar.
To be honest this was a movie I didn't want to see, from the moment I saw the trailer I didn't feel it was a priority and I could leave it for another opportunity, when I saw it I could verify that it was a regular film, a lot of influence of "The Fugitive" and other action films of the 90's, stories of conspiracies and where someone must face a group of powerful people in order to do justice, you have good things and some not so many, but I think the worst of everything that surrounds this film is the promotion of a major spoiler by Netflix, I think people (like me) who did not see immediately this film can see affected the development of the film to know what happens in this story and with respect to that I defend all decision only I would have liked that it was better developed, both in history and in acting and surely it would have been much better. In the end Sweet Girl is just another movie, nothing special and that may serve to see a Sunday afternoon, which serves for this platform and in the end that's what matters to them, personally I can advise to see it with very low expectations and may be that you may like it.
