Taboo is a BBC television drama series produced by Scott Free London and Hardy Son & Baker. It premiered on BBC One in the United Kingdom, on 7 January 2017 and on FX in the United States, on 10 January 2017. The eight-episode series was created by Steven Knight, Tom Hardy, and his father, Chips Hardy, based on a story written by Tom and Chips Hardy.

Unfortunately the first episode of "Taboo" is not particularly good. It's not too bad to deny you if you've decided that you're watching a darker series (as I do). But if you come across a pirate ship, where you have to defend the idea that it's a good cinema, let alone good drama, you will find yourself in an awkward position (given that pirates have an aesthetic sense of course). The macabre, gory and eerie blood fest comes to an end with a bittersweet send off for Hardy and company. The 8 episode mini-series gets it just about right when it comes to stand alone tales that can practically go all out experimental.
