  1. The Beach - Movie Review 🎥@vikbuddy1818d

DiCaprio is an actor who can be clearly distinguished when he has the appearance of a mysterious boy who seems to have come from outer space and when he has the virtuous appearance of the uncle next door. Of course, his acting is good no matter what he looks like, but watching a movie when he's in the form of a boy can't help but feel better.

This time, I watched the movie 'The Beach' where you can see DiCaprio in the form of a boy.

Richard (DiCaprio) is a young man who loves to travel. As Richard travels to Thailand, he stays in a shabby hotel. A drug-addicted young man living next door speaks to Richard. The stories he talks about are gibberish that doesn't match the back and forth. Meanwhile, he talks about the existence of a fantasy island like a paradise on earth. Richard, who thought it was the sound of drunkenness and passed it on as a joke, sees the scene where the young man next door committed suicide the next day. And an unknown map at the door of his room that the young man seems to have left behind...

Richard, with his French lover, another traveler, decides to go to an unknown island.

The island they visited was truly paradise. Cannabis was plentiful, the beach glistened in emerald light, and the white sand stretched out like silk. And there, like Richard, young people who were looking for paradise came in and settled down after hearing the rumors. Joining the self-sufficient and free-living group, Richard and his party fell in love with Paradise.

The film raises the question of what a true paradise is. In particular, Thailand, where tourists flock to the city, was a place where innocence and naturalness were real in the past. However, as the number of tourists increased, it became noisy, bustling and complicated. So there was a principle that they should not tell anyone about the new island they found. Can a limited number of people, separated from the world, get together and be happy endlessly? Can a wonderful environment give a person complete happiness? People fall in love, break up, get sick, and even die. Since it's paradise, will anything come only to happiness? Can a person live without misfortune?

It's been a while since the movie was made, and the setting of Paradise seems rather simple, but the fundamental question the movie asks makes you think a lot throughout the movie.

  2. Film Structure Analysis #19 - The Beach (2000)@lionsuit2353d

    The Beach Trailer:

The Beach is a great film. Danny Boyle is an eclectic master. I'm returning to it this week to take a look at the overall structure.

    Structure Analysis: 1wyf1fu2d7.jpg

The edges of the frame are a bit clipped as I upload the photo, but anyone who has seen the film won't skip a beat. It opens with Richard's monologue. Closes with "credits" at the end.

A great story of the battle of the depravity of man, the battle for paradise, the battle for adventure and for living a life worth living. Man vs Man. Man vs Nature. Man vs Himself. All combined.

The structure makes a lot of sense, most clearly the Act 2 liftoff and Act 2 wind down, which are marked by the team's arrival to the island and to the beach community and then by Richard's ousting from the community into pure nature and near madness. To me that is a natural and interesting bookending to the central act: beach community in and beach community out.

Next time I will try to spell "Redemption" with an m. Regardless, engaging structure. Engaging film.

  3. The Beach (film): forced to watch this hundreds of times@gooddream2811d

I probably would have much better memories of this movie if it weren't for the fact that I was continually subjected to requests to play it inside of the restaurant / bar that I managed near where the movie was primarily filmed.

Now prepare yourself, because I am going to be particularly cruel to DiCaprio here because if you recall what I was saying before about how I don't think his movies are great because of him but rather in spite of him. I feel as though this movie is actually pushed down a bit in quality because of him.

There is something about how whenever Leo raises his voice that I think his acting is at its worst. There are multiple times in this movie where that happens and while I don't want to spoil the film too much, there is an instance where he is bragging over his prowess at fishing

    sei_14839970.jpg

and also another scene where is is being held in position and is about to get shot when he decides to berate all of his roommates by shouting "You F**king bastards!" and i just cringe when i have to see those scenes. I don't know how I would have done it any different, but i can imagine not simply shouting at the top of my lungs to the point where my voice cracks would be a good place to start.

For those of you that don't know, this movie takes place in Thailand and is meant to be at a remote island off the coast of Koh Phangan. The island filming was actually done over on the other side of the country here in Krabi. Many of the scenes that are meant to take place in Bangkok were also filmed over here and they simply created a Bangkok look for the street scenes.

Now, the movie isn't terrible and the parts of it that are bad (which is a lot of it) aren't necessarily the actors' faults. It is simply a cheesy script and to be honest I don't know how they pulled that off because the book the movie is based on is absolutely fantastic.

The movie has a beautiful setting that does a decent job of portraying what Thailand is like, right up to the point where the story because about a bunch of teenagers that have some hidden island all to themselves and don't ever have to worry about money or visas and what not. Then it just is an eye-rolling bonanza. Like i said at the start, I am perhaps being too harsh on this film because I was forced to witness it at least 100 times over the course of 11 years, but for the most part, i think this is one of the worst films that Leo stars in.

  4. The Beach (Film): Review.@martinmcfly2815d

In 1996 Alex Garland's novel "The Beach" was released, and four years later, in 2000, director Danny Boyle and actor Leonardo DiCarpio made the film adaptation of that novel. Twelve years later, I would see it, and today, six years after having seen it, I have seen it again to make a review for Steemit. That's why today, we'll talk about The Beach.

Year: 2000 Category: Drama, Thriller. Director: Danny Boyle
Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tilda Swinton, Virginie Ledoyen, Guillaume Canet, Robert Carlyle,

    Plot

The desire to find something authentic, to connect with something or someone, is what drives Richard, a young backpacker who goes to Thailand to live an adventure. Richard travels in search of experiences, he looks for something different. Once in the Asian country, Richard is staying at a bad hotel in Bangkok, where he meets a French couple, Étienne and Françoise. In addition, he meets Daffy, a traveler destroyed by years of sun and drugs. Tortuous and paranoid, Daffy tells Richard a fantastic story about a secret island, a paradise on Earth: the perfect beach, never found by tourists.

    Opinion

Paradise has existed since time immemorial in the minds of men, like a garden of flowers and delicious fruits, in which happiness and enjoyment are achieved without much effort. In this idyllic place there are no jobs or tensions, everything is within reach, desires are fulfilled without fatigue or anguish. The film shows us a clear message: is there a perfect place? Is there a paradise?

With this film the viewer enters a perfect utopian world and if something has taught us the story is that after the calm comes the storm. After the journey to reach the idyllic island, Richard, François and Étienne, the protagonists, will soon discover that nothing is what it seems. The inhabitants of the island receive them and take them to the leader, Sal. Despite being a society far from civilization, they have established an order that has required leadership, and Sal has been responsible for maintaining this order in a somewhat authoritarian manner.

Richard, François and Étienne are incorporated into the tasks of this autonomous society and in parallel their relationship will evolve dangerously while we get to know the community and its functioning, to later see the beginning of the decline of that ideal society.

So Richard wakes up from the fantasy and decides it's time to leave the paradise that has begun to fall apart. The farmers of the neighboring island no longer trust that the inhabitants of the beach are keeping the secret and test the loyalty towards the cause of Sal in front of the whole community. And then she shows how far she is willing to go, and what she is willing to sacrifice, to maintain order.

    Score

    6/10

The film is not outstanding, however, I know a group of people, including myself, who we liked in a very unique way, which is why the film is moderately recommended, but I would not bet anything for it.
