Hello, internet people. I was thinking of a way to spend some of my time and I ended up choosing to watch this movie, at the end of the day I not only wasted my time but I lost it because this movie sucks, however in order not to feel like I wasted my time in vain, today I will review it.

I have to say that at the beginning it gets a bit interesting because let's say there is a mystery to solve, however for every interesting thing that happens (which are very, very few) the rest is unnecessary and boring "filler" plot.

The dynamism of the film is extremely slow, which makes it extremely boring, the handling of the horror sucks, it is extremely predictable. In one of the scenes, a girl peeps out from under the bed because she hears a noise, and surprise! the monster appears for a second, just as we expected.

I think homemade ghost edits on youtube are much more creative and effective.

The performances were somewhat decent, the actors did what they could with such a bad script. Not to mention the special effects, judge for yourselves...

I think the demon with the painted face in Insidious is more frightening and that was done with just make-up 😅😅. We could say that the monster of this movie it looks scarier in this picture, but in the film, despite being the main character, if it appears in a space of 10 minutes of the hour and a half that lasts the film, it's a lot.

I understand the meaning of darkness in the film, but if you overuse it, the viewer won't be able to see what happens during these scenes (the same result that movies like Harry Potter 6 get for example). I think it was a good idea to implement a contrast between light and shadow (parallelism of good and evil) but without a good execution, it becomes a disaster. Far from the bad work of the lights and shadows, the rest is fine, the colour palette, the shots are not outstanding but they are not bad either.

In short... it's a disaster, don't watch it 😂😂😂😂 The truth is extremely boring (I fell asleep a couple of times and had to rewind the film) being a horror film it's even more serious given that it should scare and it doesn't even manage to entertain, much less generate tension or fear.

  2. Traumatic Events of the Past Revisited; Sometimes in Mind, Sometimes in Reality - The Boogeyman@cute-cactus985d

Having a tragic past is enough reason to have psychological problems, but is it enough reason to create an otherworldly creature? Honestly, I don't know and I can't go beyond guessing, but I have a great movie recommendation for those who love the psychological thriller genre.

    [source](https://www.themoviedb.org/t/p/original/6OnDSJThAbF6GxXNXNmcusGjBDy.jpg)

Made in 2023, The Boogeyman is a horror-thriller about a man with a tragic past and psychological problems who seeks psychiatric help.

Dr. Will Harper (played by Chris Messina) is struggling with his own family problems. One day he is visited by a non-patient and asked for help. The fact that he does not refuse help ignites a new story.

The creature, which was initially thought to exist only in the mind, feeding on people's weaknesses, has similar characteristics to the stories in a few horror movies I have seen before, but I must say that it differs from other stories in the way it presents fear and tension.

Throughout the movie, where the performances of the actors are top-notch, the characters' efforts to confront their pasts and their efforts to recover from the traumatic consequences of the traumatic consequences ensure that horror and suspense go hand in hand. Of course, during this journey, you find yourself in the story and feel both fear and tension.

    [source](https://www.themoviedb.org/t/p/original/oJGulSX6N5GYQX9F8VZZgOwVCeQ.jpg)

I think that in horror movies, feeling the fear rather than being afraid of anything shown makes the movie more successful. When you are under the influence of something real or unreal, you somehow feel the fear and you are affected even if you don't see it.

The movie The Boogeyman, which is essentially a story between a father and his two daughters, manages to accelerate your heart rate and breathing as it draws you in while you watch it, about what happens inside a claustrophobic house.

I recommend you to watch The Boogeyman with its successful narration of the fact that the traces of the past will come up at any moment unless the traumatic effect is overcome, and that it will disturb us in some way due to its presence in our minds.

    [source](https://www.themoviedb.org/t/p/original/AvSeU3ji59QLN2tfWXzVqI6hg8x.jpg)

Those who will enjoy the fiction that starts in the psychological thriller genre step by step turning into reality and making you feel the fear should watch the movie at night and alone, it will offer extra viewing pleasure.

I wish you a good watch in advance!

  3. The Boogeyman || When Fear Comes To Life.@wongi990d

The last time I saw a horror movie, I said to myself "this would be your last in a very long time, Wongi". Unfortunately, I broke this vow sooner than expected. Some people who have been reading me would know that I was once a horror movie fanatic. Yes, "once", till things changed. Fortunately for me, I still sleep like a baby after seeing horror films but something in me just felt like giving it a break.

    Screenshot_20231013-120221.jpg

My break was soon interrupted by a friend who I like to call my "movie plug". He asked if I had seen the movie and I said no. After he gave some specifications, I already wanted to see the movie. Well, here I am, a day after seeing the movie.

"The Boogeyman" is the classic I would be reviewing today. This movie reminds me so much of my childhood, when I was so afraid of the dark because I thought something was always lurking in the dark. Was I right about the lurking entities? I wouldn't know but one thing I know is that I outgrew the fear of dark places.

    About The Movie

A highschool student, Sadie Harper, and her younger sister, Sawyer Harper are going through a grieving phase. They just lost their mother and they are still holding onto her memories. They receive little to no support from their dad–a therapist –who happens to be going through intense pain too.

Things start to go sideways when their dad allows a desperate patient into their home. The patient unknowingly leaves behind a supernatural entity that preys on humans grief and suffering.

The rest of the movie demonstrates how Dr. Harper and his two daughters handle this entity. Their lives depend on their every move and so they have to make moves with caution.

    Cast

    Chris Messina as Dr. Harper

Dr Harper is a therapist who receives patients in his office at home. He is the father of two lovely kids; Sawyer and Sadie. Himself, alongside his two kids are still recovering from the death of his wife.

Dr. Harper handles grief like many other adult men. He tries to mask his grief behind smiles but one thing about grief is that it always manifests.

    Sophie Thatcher as Sadie Harper

Sophie is Dr. Harper's eldest kid who is in highschool. The death of her mother draws so much attention to her in school. Everyone tries to sympathize with her and this makes her feel very uncomfortable.

As the eldest child, she was the kid with the most memories with her mom so the pain was something she couldn't bear. Amidst the pain, she still tries to keep her family together.

    Vivien Lyra as Sawyer Harper

    png_20231013_133229_0000.png

Vivien is the youngest child of Dr. Harper. She is the most prone to fear as she is still a kid who is trying to understand life while battling with the loss of her mom.

The boogeyman manifests to her first as she is the most susceptible. At first, nobody believed her until a life threatening incident occurred. Sawyer was one very adorable little girl who acted her role graciously.

    My Opinion

    Screenshot_20231013-120033.jpg

I remember watching many movies and in these movies, parents threatened their kids with the sentence "The Boogeyman would come for you if you are disobedient". I never really imagined what a boogeyman would look like. All I knew was that a boogeyman looked terrifying enough to scare little kids. It felt really nice to see what a boogeyman actually looked like. I enjoyed watching this movie a whole lot.

Just like my friend had specified, it was a really scary movie but over the years, I've grown to watch scary movies like normal movies. I do not know if it was the extra soundtracks, the graphics or the suspense but I know that some scenes left a tint of fear in me, just like a horror film should.

    Screenshot_20231013-115928.jpg

I was really delighted at the fact that I had finally seen a movie that deserved the 'horror' tag after ages. Although there wasn't a variety of characters to watch, the few that came on screen were amazing. I expected their acting to be bad because two kids were involved but I was really impressed.

The movie started strong and continued in this light. It is typical for horror films to start really strong and then lag somewhere in the middle. This wasn't the case with the Boogeyman Man. The very first scene left viewers in awe and every other scene that followed tried to explain this awe and at the same time create more awe. It was a really great mix of suspense, thrills, chills and horror.

    Recommendation.

    Screenshot_20231013-115851.jpg

Would I recommend this movie to everyone? No. Not everyone enjoys watching horror movies. But, if you are a lover of suspense, horror and thrills, then this movie is for you. It was a well spent one hour and thirty minutes for me.

To rate it, I would give us an 8.5/10. Not many horror movies reach this mark for me. If you are interested, then you should grab yourself a bowl of popcorn and get ready to be terrifyingly entertained.

  4. The Monster Among the Shadows - Review of "The Boogeyman"@adalathu1011d

    1.jpg

The adaptations of Stephen King works always generate a great expectation on my part. Despite having had more bad than good experiences with them, I always hope that one of them surprises me and ends up being a gem of horror cinema. This time I went to see The Boogeyman, the most recent adaptation of one of King's short stories. The film immerses us in a horror story that starts out promising much less than I expected.

The plot follows the Harper family, consisting of Sadie, Sawyer and Dr. Harper, their father. Their life is marked by the recent loss of the girls' mother and the doctor's wife. When one of Dr. Harper's patients decides to end her life in the family home, the story takes an even darker turn. This tragic event triggers a series of strange and sinister phenomena that begin to happen in their home. This growing threat further destabilizes them, endangering not only their mental stability, but also their physical well-being. The struggle to overcome grief now becomes a fight for survival, as they are forced to confront an unknown and terrifying creature hiding in the shadows.

Before I started watching it, I had already read some not very good reviews about it, so my expectations were not very high. Despite that I can say that I started liking it, within all its genre clichés I liked that at the beginning they decided to keep the creature hidden in the shadows, generating a very entertaining suspense. However, as it progresses, the monster begins to reveal itself more frequently, which diminished its impact and mystery for me in the final part of the film. This caused me to feel a very noticeable bump in pacing, the film starts off solidly, but loses its punch as it progresses.

The over-exposure of the monster greatly reduced its effectiveness as a suspenseful element. In addition, everything that happens from a certain point in the film is completely predictable and, as I said before, it is full of typical horror clichés. The characters make questionable, if not stupid decisions, which I found frustrating and completely disconnected me from the story. To top it off, the ending is too predictable and sentimental, detracting from the impact of the narrative.

    01.gif

The script presents a significant departure from King's original story, focusing the plot on the psychologist and how the curse of the "bogeyman" is passed on. This approach differs quite a bit from the author's original plot, which focused on Billings, the patient who commits suicide at the doctor's house, and how he tragically loses his three children to the monster. I found this rather disappointing, as the original story is rawer, sinister and has a much more shocking ending than the film, which arguably serves as a "continuation" of the original story, since it practically begins when King's tale ends.

Looking on the bright side, I could say that the film manages to convey two important messages. The first is: do not discredit what young children say, many tend to think that because they are very young they do not understand or do not know many things. And perhaps yes, they are innocent and naïve, but I believe that any warning signs should be properly addressed without assuming that they are just "kid's stuff". It is essential to listen to and validate the concerns of the little ones, as this helps to strengthen their confidence and communication with their families. In addition, while there is no such thing as a "bogeyman", there are other real threats that can be dealt with just by paying attention to children and giving importance to their warning signs.

The second message is letting go, the Harper family was going through a heavy loss, the mother of the family had passed away. But not only had none of them gotten over it, they didn't want to and didn't even want to talk about it, which I found incongruous, since the father was a psychologist. That denial made them vulnerable to the arrival of the monster, which, in this film, attacks those who are emotionally fragile. This point reminded me a bit of the movie The Babadook, which also addresses the importance of coping with grief and allowing ourselves to feel and process our emotions.

The cast was almost unknown to me, except for Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets) and Vivien Lyra Blair (Obi-Wan Kenobi), who played Sadie and Sawyer, respectively. Honestly, I can't say that this is an aspect to highlight in the film, since the acting work simply fulfills what is necessary without offering anything more, it could even be said that some performances are somewhat mediocre. The same goes for the soundtrack and the visual effects, they fulfill their function, but do not stand out, and do not contribute significantly to the overall experience of the film.

    02.gif

I think the highlights of the film for me were little Sawyer's encounters with the monster, I found them chilling and full of tension. The film manages to generate a genuine sense of danger in these moments, mostly thanks to the subtle way in which the monster is introduced into the plot. Unfortunately, and as I already mentioned, this is lost in the middle of the film, where the monster becomes too present, losing its impact because, on top of everything else, it seemed to me that it was not well done at all.

If you are horror lovers, it might be worth giving it a chance to pass the time, but the truth is that there are many other films in the genre that offer a more impactful experience. For a while, it has a promising start, it fails to develop well or offer truly chilling moments and is burdened by clichés and too many questionable narrative decisions. On the other hand, if you like the original Stephen King story, definitely don't watch it because it is more of a sequel than an adaptation, and you will be tremendously disappointed with it.

El Monstruo Entre las Sombras - Reseña de "Boogeyman: Tu miedo es real"

    2.jpg

The Boogeyman or as it is better known in these parts of the world: "the bogeyman". I don't think it was my case but how many children must have been scared that this creature was going to take them away if they didn't behave well, if they were disobedient or if they didn't do their homework? - Hundreds and hundreds. And the fact is that this creature of unknown nature has always been in the culture of many countries as a latent threat for the little ones or as a tool of persuasion for adults/parents until a certain Stephen King came along to put a face and a story to it. That's why I decided to give horror another chance and discover what is this recent installment of this child-killer being.

I'm a big fan of horror, I think it's my favorite genre, the thing is that when it comes to execution in most cases it leaves much to be desired. But here I am, always betting that a new film of this genre will surprise me or at least not make me waste my time. This film The Boogeyman, in addition to all that has been said, has something that caught my attention and that is that its protagonist is Sophie Thatcher, who also starred in the series Yellowjackets (see it if you haven't), I say this because within that series her character was one of the best and being a horror film I already knew what I was going to find. So nothing, let's see what this new bet of the mythical creature that hides in the closets is all about.

    Source!

This story opens with Sadie Harper (Sophie Thatcher), her younger sister Sawyer (Vivien Lyra Blair) and their father Will (Chris Messina), a family that is just getting over the loss of their former mother and wife. Sadie is a young girl like any other who is having a little too much trouble getting over what happened, she has a rather questionable friends so she feels a little lonely. Sawyer, the youngest, is the most sensitive to everything, she is already afraid of the dark and now with the guest who moved into her house everything will be more complicated. And finally we have Will, a therapist who seeks to help everyone but himself because the fear of facing grief is bigger than him. So as you can see, it is a very vulnerable family.

One day a strange and very desperate man arrives at Will's office claiming that something had killed his children, obviously when he heard that he was considered crazy and dangerous. The thing is that when that man entered the house, he came with him this unwanted guest that would take the Harper family to the limit. Why? - Because the Boogeyman feeds on the suffering and weakness of people, especially children. From here will begin a struggle to understand what is happening in that house, how they can face it and how they can defeat it, if that is possible. A classic horror story that in my opinion was pretty decent, in fact I came for Sophie and I was not disappointed.

I have always said that the perfect formula for horror is the unpredictable, it is to see what you do not expect so that the reaction is more genuine and so it is easier to get into the mood of the film, at least that's how I measure the films of this genre. Here there is a bit of that, the famous "jump scare" that makes you, as the term says, jump a little bit. In my case I didn't jump but I was surprised by some things, some scenes that I was expecting something to happen and it turns out that the opposite ended up happening, they caught me a little off base and that's something I value, rarely a horror film catches me off guard. This is why I'm answering at once, scary? - If you're sensitive, it's possible, but more because of the expectation than anything else.

As for visual effects, a bit of CGI because there is and everything related to cinematography is fine, I was expecting something much worse and it ended up being at least a decent product. I really liked the way it was filmed, there were some interesting camera manipulations that made the experience cool, many don't talk about it but it's vital for the story to have more impact. The photography is another thing that was good, all the lighting and shots were really well done. For a movie that I didn't expect much, these details surprised me. And for me it's not enough that the monster comes out from under the bed, I scared you and that's it, a horror film is an experience that encompasses many things. Very cliché phrase but it is real.

The story as such if I tell you is totally flat, there is no "plot twist" that leaves you out of place and without understanding anything, it is one that goes in a straight line from beginning to end and that makes the end a little predictable everything. It's like you don't have a bad time along the way, the movie is a bit enjoyable but you know exactly where it's going to go, there are no surprises in that sense so don't expect anything out of the ordinary. I repeat, it has its suspense and terror to match but the story is what it is, no more. I think that in the end this film was saved by what I mentioned before, certain scenes and the performances that at least I liked.

Sophie is an actress who is surprisingly good at horror, in Yellojackets I already noticed that, and here is the confirmation of that thought. It is the typical character of the teenage girl who goes to high school and is not the most popular and has to deal with the absence of her mother and the weight that this implies for her is great. In the passages of anguish, fear and uncertainty I saw her quite solvent. Vivien I also saw her well, she was in the series of Obi-Wan Kenobi, hence she seemed known to me; to say that the ease that this girl has is brutal, she acts very natural, you do not see her forced and that in this type of film is a plus. You connect a little with the two and that makes the story does not end up being so superficial.

Against all odds I give it a 7/10, the film is not a masterpiece of the genre or much less but at least for me it fulfilled, it does not compare to films that have been real garbage lately. It delivers a little bit of fear, slight scares from time to time, good performances, the story if anything but well, not everything can be perfect. Considering that with horror it's very easy to screw up productions, I think this one is a close call. It has a running time of a little over an hour and a half. I leave the trailer below.
