This film is a drama about the life of Antonia Brico and her struggle to become a professional orchestra conductor, where at the time this was not totally accepted, as only men could achieve this position and become influential in the world of orchestras. I know that the facts of this film are based on real events, as Antonia really existed, but not everything that is told really happened. I mentioned this last point, because in the film there is a character, Frank Thomsen, who had a romantic relationship with Antonia Brico and she had to choose between Frank or her dream of becoming a direct. Frank did exist, but as far as I could read he had no relationship with Antonia. Still, I think their love story was very nice, even if the ending is perhaps not what we expect, at least I say that for me.

Antonia is a girl who fights for what she wants, she never gives up, even though she goes through certain situations that most likely bring other people down and they don't fight for what they really want. Antonia's longing is due to the fact that since she was a little girl she saw a man playing the piano and when she emigrated to the United States, she decided to fight for her dream, despite all the obstacles that came her way, even having to leave love aside.

Esta película me encantó, una gran historia, que quizás tiene algunos detalles, pero en lo personal pienso que no arruina la experiencia. Cuenta con una duración de 137 minutos aproximadamente. Antonia es una chica que lucha por lo que ella quiere, nunca se da por vencida, más allá de que pasa por ciertas situaciones que lo más probable es que a otras personas las derrumbe y no luchen por lo que realmente quieren. El anhelo de Antonia se debe a que desde pequeña vio a un hombre tocar el piano y al emigrar a los Estados Unidos, decidió luchar por su sueño, a pesar de todos los obstáculos que se les presentaron, incluso tener que dejar a un lado el amor.

At the beginning their relationship was not good, but little by little they realised what they felt, although Thomsen came from an influential family who were also against a woman conducting an orchestra. This complicated the situation, but still Brico pursued her dream, receiving support from people who believed in her, but many who didn't. Did Antonia succeed? How did the relationship with Frank end? Puesto doesn't want to give you spoilers, in case you're interested in seeing this film. What I can tell you is that it is a film that highlights the struggle of women to achieve their dreams no matter how this is seen by society, where at the time where the film was based, they were very macho so to speak, women had to get married, take care of their homes and have children.

Antonia y Frank se conocieron cuanto esta trabajaba en un teatro estadounidense, donde dirigían los mejores directores de orquestas sinfónicas del mundo. Al principio la relación de estos no fue bueno, poco a poco fueron dando cuenta de lo que sentían, a pesar de que Thomsen venían de una familia influyente que también estaban en contra de que una mujer dirigiera una orquesta. Esto complicó la situación, pero aun así Brico buscó su sueño, recibiendo el apoyo de personas quienes creían en ella, pero muchas otras no. ¿Será que Antonia logró su cometido? ¿Cómo terminó la relación con Frank? One of the things I liked most about this film was the fact that in two hours the story had a good development, everything was told very well, so much so that I was not left like in other stories, where I felt incomplete, like I was missing a lot more. The cinematography of the film is really good, where the story is well represented, with a great atmosphere where it fulfills what the production wanted to show in the end. Another point in favour, are the different scenarios of the time between 1926-1929, the city where most of the story takes place, where Antonia and Frank lived, the cars, the costumes, all very consistent. All this we must emphasize after the direction of Maria Peters, with a film with very striking shots that introduced us even more into the story.

Una de las cosas que más me gustó de esta película fue el hecho que en dos horas la historia tuvo un buen desarrollo, se contó todo muy bien, tanto así que no me quede como en otras historias, donde me sentía incompleto, como que me faltaba mucho más. La fotografía del filme es realmente bueno, donde la historia es bien representada, con una gran atmosfera donde cumple con mostrar lo que la producción al final quería mostrar. Otro punto a favor, son los diferentes escenarios de la época de entre 1926-1929, la ciudad donde se lleva a cabo la mayor parte de la historia que donde vivían Antonia y Frank, los coches, los vestuarios, todo muy acorde. Todo esto lo debemos destacar tras la dirección de Maria Peters, con una película con unos planos muy llamativos que nos introducía aún más dentro de la historia.

I thought the cast of the film was very good, where Christanne de Bruijn played Antonia Brico, doing an excellent job. On the other hand, we have Benjamin Wainwright as Frank Thomsen who was no slouch, I can even say that even though many times his attitude was not the best, but I still connected with the character and this thanks to the actor. We also have other secondary characters, with great performances by the cast. As far as the soundtrack is concerned, I can tell you that it is phenomenal and it couldn't be any different. I love the music, the compositions with all those musical instruments and the intention to convey the emotions to the audience. A great soundtrack is what this film has, being one of the best factors that we will find in the production.

El cast del filme me pareció muy bueno, donde Christanne de Bruijn interpretó a Antonia Brico, haciendo un excelente trabajo. Por otro lado, tenemos a Benjamin Wainwright como Frank Thomsen quien no se quedó atrás, incluso puedo decir que a pesar de que muchas veces su actitud muchas veces no era la mejor, pero aun así conecte con el personaje y esto gracias al actor. También tenemos a otros personajes secundarios, con grandes interpretaciones por parte del cast. En lo que respecta a la banda sonora, les puedo decir que esta es fenomenal y no podría ser distinto. La música me encanta, las composiciones con todos esos instrumentos musicales y la intención de transmitir las emociones al público. Una gran banda sonora es la que tiene este filme, siendo uno de los mejores factores que encontraremos en la producción.

La directora de orquesta (2018) es una gran película ¿Es perfecta? Pues no, pero logra transmitir efectivamente lo que se quiere lograr dentro de esta historia, que es dar a conocer a Antonia Brico quien destacó como directora de orquesta en un mundo donde la posición de las mujeres eran en el hogar, pero Brico no se dio por vencida, luchando con todo por su sueño. Esta es una película que cuenta con una buena historia, un excelente guion, una fotografía sobresaliente y una banda sonora con la que alucinaras. Para mí es un filme de 9/10, podrían mejorar algunas cosas, pero nada que arruine lo que estamos viendo.
