The Devil's Mouth (2026) is a horror thriller starring Kathryn Newton, Lana Condor, Nico Hiraga, Gavin Casalegno, and Tommi Rose and directed Jeff Wadlow. What began as a fun and exciting adventure for five friends, ended up to be a fight for survival in a cave, a desperate fight with a deadly shark, just at the peak of their adventure, they realized that they aren't alone beneath the water and need to survive this deadly situation.
The Devil's Mouth is a story that follows a group of young people who went on a vacation to Thailand, to visit a cave called The Devil's Mouth , this visit to this cave happens to be their last advantage before they start their live differently and things went really bad when they discovered that there's a shark beneath the water with them. The caves ecosystem was already altered and, unexpectedly to the tour guides, a shark was on the loose in a freshwater environment beneath the cave, and they didn't see it coming. The sharks began to hunt them, an adventurous vacation turned to a fight for survival , they were trapped under a dark cave and with a very limited escape route and now this group has to survive and escape the shark hunting them.
This isn't just a horrible movie about sharks and bloodshed. It also dives into the relationship of these young people as fear began to take over and the group began to have conflict in a dangerous situation and that was part of the danger in this movie, the situation they found themselves exposes the conflict they had with themselves and showed how complicated their relationship was, as a viewer their relationship became part of the danger not just the shark, because the situation made them confront various issues like control, trust, resentment, and dependence between them and this gave the movie an emotional depth, it wasn't just a shark horror throughout the movie.
The cave setting of this movie is another strength of this movie, most of the shark movies I have seen are usually on open waters, so watching one beneath a dark cave really made this movie unique and interesting to watch, the movie trapped the viewers in a confined water maze looking for a way out. The darkness of the cave, narrow ways , steps on fragile paths created much suspense and tension for me. The fear of watching the characters not know where the shark is coming from in a dark cave, the setting made every step look dangerous and scary to the viewers.
The performance of the cast in this movie is also incredible. Kathryn Newton as Sara, did really great, she brought determination and vulnerability to her character, Lana Condoras Max gave a really unpredictable personality to her character, she was really complicated to understand. And many other characters. They all did incredibly well and that was why the movie was really interesting for me to keep watching.
The movie also has its flaws, I just knew who would survive from the very beginning and, for a horror movie, the viewer isn't supposed to predict that easily, and some decisions made most characters seem unbelievable to me, but I chose to suspend my disbelief, regardless I appreciate the setting and conflict in this movie, it made it quite unique.
In conclusion, The Devil’s Mouth(2026) is a good survival horror movie, the setting is unique, the claustrophobia, friendship and the fear of being trapped in a maze-like cave really made the watching fun for me and I enjoy watching this movie. I will be rating The Devil’s Mouth(2026) an 80/100, the movie is really worth watching.

Last night, during a very late night, I stumbled upon a recently released film. I'm a bit picky about horror and suspense movies, as I believe most films in this genre get lost in their own world, neglecting many elements that I think these genres should include. For this and other reasons, I much prefer combining horror with comedy, but that's not what I'm here to talk about. Instead, I want to share a film that, while not perfect, evoked a wide range of emotions in me throughout.
Anoche, en una gran desvelada, me encontré con una película que no tiene mucho tiempo de ser estrenada. Yo me siento un poco estricta para las películas que sean de terror o de suspenso, pues tengo la creencia de que la mayoría de las películas de este género se pierden en ellas mismas, dejando atrás muchos factores que considero que estos géneros deben llevar. Y por esto y por otras razones prefiero muchísimo combinar el terror con la comedia, pero aquí no vine a hablar sobre esto, más bien mostrarte una película que, a pesar de que no me pareció perfecta, me hizo sentir muchas emociones en todo momento.

Protagonizada por Kathryn Newton, Lana Condor, Gavin Casalegno, Tommi Rose, Nico Hiraga y Tayme Thapthimthong, esta película sigue la aventura de un grupo de amigos fanáticos del mar y la natación en Tailandia. Estos están muy emocionados por vivir sus vidas al 100% y sin límites, y esto los lleva a un sistema de cuevas que, más pronto de lo que crees, empieza a darles muchos problemas y los peores sustos que una persona con estas pasiones podría vivir.
Personally, I'm afraid of the sea or deep water, and whenever I see a movie set underwater with a clear horror theme, I'm automatically overcome with panic. On Prime Video, when you go to see the details of a series or movie, it has several tags, and this one had "humorous" and "funny," which immediately convinced me to watch it with confidence, after watching the trailer first, of course. And as a side note, the first scene, where there's an attack, was completely unexpected; it really surprised me and deserves a mention. If you want to know what I mean, I invite you to watch it.
Yo, por lo personal, le tengo miedo al mar o los sitios de aguas profundas y siempre que veo una película en donde está ambientada bajo el agua con la clara marca de terror, pues el pánico me invade automáticamente. En Prime Video, cuando entras a ver los detalles de una serie o película, lleva varias etiquetas, y entre las etiquetas que esta tenía estaban “humorístico” y “divertida”, lo que me convenció automáticamente de entrar a ver esta con confianza, viendo primero su tráiler, obviamente. Y como único dato, la primera escena en donde hay un ataque no me la esperaba, realmente me sorprendió y es digna de esta mención; si quieres saber a qué me refiero, te invito a que la veas.
Other noteworthy aspects include the set design. This film features numerous scenes in a beautiful and challenging cave system, which contribute to the eerie atmosphere. The scientific facts, theories, and helpful tips provided also contribute to a comfortable understanding of the events; in short, the film boasts a very well-written script. The relationships between the characters foster empathy and affection, lending weight to each scene where they face challenges, making everything feel very real.
Otras cosas que merecen mención son las escenografías. Esta película tiene un monto de escenas en un sistema de cueva muy hermoso y desafiante, y ayudan a que el ambiente sea altamente tenebroso. También los datos científicos y las teorías de las que hablan y los tips que van lanzando van ayudando a que te sientas cómodo con cada uno de los hechos; en pocas palabras, esta película tiene un guion muy bien escrito. La relación entre los personajes te lleva a empatizar y a tenerles cariño para que tengan peso cada escena en donde son desafiados, sintiéndose muy palpable todo.

Siguen llegando nuevos estrenos en las distintas plataformas y de diferentes géneros, la cual muchas de ellas con ideas que ya hemos visto como otras que superan todas las expectativas y se convierten en una película perfectamente para pasar un gran momento. Por eso llega La boca del diablo, la cual nos presenta una exploración en una de las cuevas submarinas de Tailandia, siendo algo que tiene muchos años y se dicen que existen varios historia de terror, sin embargo, aquí una simple visita termina siendo una situación muy fuerte hasta poder sobrevivir, siendo una producción que combina miedo, suspenso y a veces como dejarse llevar por los amigos no es la mejor opción.
The first thing I like—and find admirable—is the setting where the entire movie takes place, since it’s a natural landscape that has become a landmark, and many people would pay just to visit that place and see it for themselves; plus, it’s the perfect setting for a shark movie like this one, because there’s nowhere to go, which makes the tension build second by second—it’s not just about worrying about what might appear, but also about finding a way out. This is important because that’s where you realize whether the people in that situation will be able to stick together when everything starts to go wrong.
Another thing that works well in the movie is that feeling of being trapped, which makes us wonder: Will they be able to get out? Will they be able to eat anything? And many other things, because no one is used to being cooped up. The presence of sharks also changes everything, and this is where the movie shifts from a leisurely outing to a struggle for survival—where every decision matters, every second counts, and keeping your nerves in check is key—so that they can move forward as a close-knit group of friends. That’s why all these elements come together, making for a truly enjoyable experience.
Lo primero que me gusta y es algo de admirar es lugar donde se lleva a cabo toda la película, ya que es algo natural que se ha convertido en un monumento y muchas personas pagarían por poder llegar a ese lugar y conocerlo, además es el escenario perfecto para una película de tiburones como ocurre aquí, porque no hay para donde ir, logrando que la tensión vaya creciendo segundo tras segundo, porque no es solamente preocuparse por lo que puede aparecer, sino también por encontrar una manera de salir. Siendo algo importante porque allí es donde uno se da cuenta si las personas que están en esa situación serán capaces de mantenerse unidas cuando todo comienza a salir mal.
Otras de las cosas que funciona bien en la película es esa sensación de estar atrapado, la cual nos lleva a preguntarnos ¿Podrán salir?, ¿Podrán comer algo? Y muchas otras cosas, porque ninguna persona está acostumbrada a estar encerrada. Como también la presencia de tiburones hace que todo cambie y es aquí donde la película pasa de ser un paseo a una lucha de supervivencia, donde cada decisión vale, cada segundo cuenta, al igual que saber llevar los nervios, para así poder avanzar como un gran grupo de amigos y por eso todos esos elementos se van uniendo y se puede llegar a disfrutar de algo bueno.
The characters play a major role here, since—as they’re on an adventure—everything, including the fun, can change in a matter of seconds. Each character has their own personality and way of thinking, even though the goal is simply to survive. Everything changes, and something as simple as making your way through a cave can turn into a life-or-death situation. That’s why there are parts where everything is very predictable, and some characters could have been developed much further—but you can still see how a cave and a shark will make life impossible for every character in the movie.
I really liked the result of this new production, La boca del diablo, since it’s a survival film with a familiar formula, but one that stands out because of its setting. So, this is just another shark movie, but after watching it, you’ll probably think twice before embarking on an adventure inside underwater caves—where there’s no cell service, no food, just rock and more rock. So if you’re looking for a movie that becomes an experience you’d actually want to live through, this one’s for you.
Los personajes juegan un gran papel aquí, ya que al estar en una aventura, todas y diversión todo cambian en cuestión de segundos, donde cada uno tiene una personalidad, una forma de pensar y aunque el objetivo es poder sobrevivir. Todo cambia y algo tan simple como avanzar por una cueva puede convertirse en una situación de vida o muerte, por ese llegará parte donde todo es muy predecible y algunos personajes podrían haber tenido un desarrollo mucho mayor, se puede seguir viendo, cómo una cueva y tiburón le hará la vida imposible a cada personaje de la película.
Me gusto mucho el resultado de esta nueva producción La boca del diablo, ya que es una película de supervivencia, con una fórmula conocida, pero que la convierte en especial por ese escenario. Así que esta es una película más de tiburones, pero seguramente después de verla, probablemente uno se lo piense dos veces antes de aceptar una aventura dentro de unas cuevas submarinas, donde no habrá señal, ni comida simplemente roca y más rocas. Por eso si buscas una película que se convierta en una experiencia que quisiera vivir esta es para ti.
At first it was looking like more of a romantic movie than what the title says until the next 10 minutes and I began to hear the whispers and seeing the signs of trouble mixed with action.
The Devil's Mouth (TDM) is a 2026 movie mixed with a little bit of love but more of horror story. A story of 5 friends going from a beach tour to a cave tour called THE DEVIL'S MOUTH for adventures and also based on recommendation by Sara (Kathryn Newton).
An adventure turned chaotic and blood sucking tour in the hands of a shark that nearly killed a whole group of 6 young people and 2 cave instructors.
The action started getting unveiled when Sara was swimming in the ocean but was believed to be bathing in the ship. She was left behind and unfortunately, got stuck and got scratches by the stuffs in the sea. But that was only a tip of the iceberg, nothing out of the big havoc that awaited them. If only they had known.
The problem started after meeting Wat(Tayme Thapthimthong) the cave tour instructor, and the rest of the group which are Greg, James, Max, Adriene decided to change the primary plan Sarah made with Wat which is to take the green path to the Devil's Mouth as the easiest route in the cave to taking the red path which is the hardest and toughest. They wanted something tough and they got it.
A lesson very vivid to learn from the movie is that, as a team, communication should be the key. Argument or lack of trust will only cause more harm than good. I doubt if they would have lost their lives up to that level if they could maintain good communication and learn to trust themselves. Most especially when it was left with Max and Sarah but probably because of her past error with Sarah, she always thought she was not ready to save her at any point.
I don't think such movies encourages me to go on such adventures and I don't even want to have a cave adventure at this point cos I can't be eaten by a shark, lol.
The point where Sarah ended seeing the rays of sunlight after nearly being killed by the shark while saving Max was the best relief I had watching the movie. Although I know she will survive as the lead actress but how she will was the suspense I could not predict.
The cast and crew were amazing like I would always trust Hollywood to deliver their best in their productions and that is why you have to see the movie too many reviews disvirgin the movie's suspense for you.

It's 2026, and it's unbelievable that we're still seeing movies about killer sharks hungry for human blood. It's been proven time and again that these animals don't attack humans for no reason; in fact, they may be more afraid of us than humans are of them. Furthermore, they'll prefer the salty blood of other fish to human blood, but Amazon and the director of this film, Jeff Wadlow, chose not to consider this. Why do I say this? Because the moment we see inappropriate behavior in a real animal, movies cease to be serious and become parodies, and that's essentially what we see in "The Devil's Mouth"
Estamos en pleno 2026 y parece mentira que todavía estemos viendo películas con temáticas de tiburones asesinos y hambrientos de sangre humana. Se ha demostrado una y otra vez que estos animales no atacan a los humanos porque si, de hecho ellos pueden que nos tengan más miedo a nosotros de lo que las personas puedan sentir hacia ellos. Es más, van a preferir la sangre salada de otros peces que la humana, pero eso la gente de Amazon y el director de esto, Jeff Wadlow, no lo quisieron tomar en cuenta. Por que digo esto? - pues porque en el momento cuando vemos un comportamiento que no es el adecuado en un animal real las películas dejan de ser serias y se convierten en parodias y algo así es lo que se ve en "La boca del diablo".
I decide to watch it thinking that the threat would be of a different type but no, to my disappointment I was in charge of another film where a demon shark was going to be one of its kind. The story begins with 5 friends who are traveling in Thailand trying to live some last adventures before entering the adult world. Two couples and the organizer of everything, Sara, decide to visit a cave complex called "The Devil's Mouth." They are the typical carefree young people, who believe that they know everything and that anything for them is nothing as long as they have a good time. In fact, at the beginning of the film we are already presented with a situation that gives us an idea of the type of people they are.
Decido verla pensando que la amenaza sería de otro tipo pero no, para mi decepción estaba al frente de otra película en donde un tiburón endemoniado iba a ser de las suyas. La historia comienza con 5 amigos que están de viaje en Tailandia tratando de vivir unas últimas aventuras antes de meterse en el mundo adulto. Dos parejas y la organizadora de todo, Sara, deciden visitar un complejo de cuevas llamado "La boca del diablo". Son los típicos jóvenes despreocupados, que creen que se las saben todas y que cualquier cosa para ellos es la nada con tal de pasarla bien. De hecho al principio del film ya se nos presenta una situación que nos da a entender el tipo de personas que son.
Once they embark on this adventure, accompanied by an expert guide, it seems there's no turning back. These caves offer several routes, but they—or rather, one member of the group, Max (Lana Condor), who makes all the decisions—choose the most complicated and longest path because, of course, she knows more than the guide himself. Inside the caves, the nightmare for these people has only just begun, as a beast (a bull shark) lurks beneath the waters, its objective, according to the plot's logic, being intent on killing them all. From this point on, the story unfolds entirely within these caves, creating a feeling of claustrophobia and anguish. This is one of the few things I'll acknowledge about this film; it plays very effectively with that irrational fear of being trapped and not knowing exactly where the threat lies. Adding to this the fact that they're underwater only intensifies that fear.
Una vez adentrados en esta aventura, a la cual van con un guía experto, pareciera que no hay vuelta atrás. Estas cuevas tienen varios recorridos pero ellos o más bien una del grupo que es la decide todo, Max (Lana Condor), deciden tomar el camino más complicado y largo porque claro, ella sabe más que el propio guía. Ya dentro de las cuevas la pesadilla para estas personas apenas comienza y es que debajo de esas aguas acecha una bestia (un tiburón toro) el cual, según la lógica de la trama, tiene como objetivo matarlos a todos. A partir de acá la trama se desarrolla en el interior de estas cuevas haciendo que la sensación sea de claustrofobia y angustia. Esto que acabo de decir es de las pocas cosas que le voy a reconocer a esta película, juega muy bien con ese miedo irracional de estar encerrado y con el no saber exactamente donde está la amenaza. Si a esto le sumamos que están dentro del agua pues ese miedo se acrecienta un poco más.
Now, let's talk about how things unfold. It's well known that sharks don't behave this way, which, for me, already undermines the seriousness of the plot. The animal itself isn't scary; the fact that it's being hunted and pursued is what might be unsettling. And it's not scary because it doesn't just look fake, it's downright unrealistic; the mechanization and the CGI used are blatantly obvious. Making a shark look real is extremely difficult, and I personally think that didn't happen here. The deaths are predictable, the typical kind where the shark practically plays with the bodies—nothing shocking. I think another thing worth highlighting is the survival instinct of one of the characters, Sara (Kathryn Newton), the best thing about this film. Without her, everything would have been flatter and more boring; without a doubt, the entire film rested on her shoulders.
Ahora, hablemos de como se van dando las cosas. Ya se sabe que los tiburones no actúan así por lo que para mi ya le quita seriedad a la trama. El animal no da miedo, el estar siendo cazados y perseguidos es lo que puede que angustie. Y no da miedo porque no se ve falso, sino lo siguiente a eso; es muy evidente lo mecanizado que está y el CGI usado. Hacer un tiburón que se vea real es sumamente complicado y acá personalmente pienso que eso no pasó. Las muertes son las esperadas, las típicas en donde el tiburón prácticamente juega con los cuerpos, nada impresionable. Creo que otra de las cosas también debería de rescatar es el instinto de supervivencia de uno de los personajes, Sara (Kathryn Newton), la mejor de esta película. Sin ella todo hubiese sido más plano y aburrido, sin dudas todo el film estuvo en sus hombros.
Yes, this could be considered more of a survival thriller than a horror film. It could also be a suspense thriller, but to call it horror is an insult to the genre. Surprisingly, the acting was good, which is what you'd expect from a plot like this where friends get into trouble. I think many people might actually enjoy this movie and find it entertaining, and I don't blame them. When I see things like this, I get very cynical and ironic because it's not something that would happen in real life, but it's part of fiction, and I can understand that. For passing the time when there's nothing else to watch, I think it's perfect, so yes, I'm recommending it even though I didn't like it; in the end, tastes are subjective. It's just over an hour and a half long. I'll leave the trailer here for you to check out.
Y es que si, esto pudiera ser un thriller de supervivencia más allá que un terror. Suspenso igualmente pudiera ser pero catalogar a esto como un terror es un insulto al género. Las actuaciones sorpresivamente estuvieron bien, es lo que puedes esperar de una trama así en la cual los amigos se meten en problemas. Creo que a muchas personas puede que de verdad les guste y les parezca entretenida esta película y no los culpo. Cuando veo estas cosas me vuelvo muy cínico e irónico porque no es algo que pasaría en la realidad pero es parte de la ficción y eso lo puedo entender. Para pasar un rato en el que no hay nada que ver creo que está perfecta así que si, se las estoy recomendando a pesar de que no me gustó, al final los gustos son subjetivos. Dura poco más de hora y media. Les dejo el tráiler para que le echen un ojo.

I watched The Devil’s Mouth expecting a simple shark movie, but this one actually gave me more tension than I expected. The idea of being trapped inside a dark underwater cave with something hunting you was already enough to make me uncomfortable.
The story followed five college friends Sara (Kathryn Newton), Max (Lana Condor), James (Nico Hiraga), Greg(Gavin Casalegno), and Adrienne (Tommi Rose), they travelled to Thailand for one last adventure before moving on with their lives. They decided to explore the Devil’s Mouth cave system, a beautiful place that quickly turned into a nightmare when they discovered that they weren’t alone in the water.
What made the movie interesting for me was the setting. There was nowhere to run, the passages were narrow, visibility was poor, and every time they entered another section of the cave, I kept wondering what was waiting for them. The shark itself wasn't even the only problem. As their situation became worse, fear started affecting their judgment, and the tension within the group became almost as dangerous as the creature chasing them.
Sara was probably the character I connected with the most. She wasn't the loudest person in the group, but she was observant and cautious. Max, on the other hand, was much more impulsive, and some of her decisions had me wondering why anyone was still following her. Their differences became more obvious as the situation got worse, especially when survival started depending on who they could actually trust.
I also liked that the movie didn't make the shark appear every second. Sometimes, not knowing where it was made the scenes even more frightening. You could see the characters swimming through the darkness, hear the tension building, and just wait for something to happen. That kind of suspense worked for me.
Of course, there were moments where I was literally talking to the screen because some of the decisions made by the characters were questionable. But honestly, that's part of what made it entertaining. It had the usual survival-movie moments where you are shouting, “Don't go there!” while knowing very well they were going there anyway 😂.
By the final part, the movie became less about escaping the shark and more about whether Sara could trust herself enough to make the decisions necessary to survive. The ending gave her character a satisfying bit of growth after everything she had been through.
Was it the most original shark movie I've ever seen? Definitely not. It borrowed quite a few familiar survival-horror ideas. But the underwater cave setting gave it its own flavour, and there were enough tense moments to keep me interested until the end.
My verdict : The Devil’s Mouth was a decent survival thriller with beautiful scenery, claustrophobic underwater scenes, friendship drama and a very unwelcome shark.
If you enjoy movies where people get trapped in dangerous places and have to fight their way out, I think this one is worth watching.

okay so i finally got around to watching this last night and honestly? kinda slaps for what it is lol... went in expecting to half pay attention on my phone the whole time and ended up actually locked in, which says a lot for a movie i wasn't hyped about going in.
So quick rundown... five friends go to thailand for one last trip before real adult life starts, they book this cave swimming tour, storm hits, caves flood, they're trapped, and turns out there's a shark down there with them that's basically adapted to hunting in pitch black water. that's it, that's the whole movie. very simple setup but it works way better than it has any right to.
what got me is apparently they actually filmed like 85% of this thing underwater for real, no green screen tricks, the actors did their own diving and climbing and everything, even a whole cliff jump they wanted to fake but the director was like nah let's just do it for real. and honestly you can FEEL that while watching it, it doesn't have that fake cgi-heavy vibe a lot of shark movies have these days where you can tell it's all rendered. felt way more tense because of it, like there's an actual physical weight to how everyone moves in the water.
kathryn newton and lana condor are the leads and i actually didn't know until after that they almost got swapped roles, like the director cast them opposite of what people expected and it's a cool little choice honestly. newton's character starts off kinda always getting talked over by her friend and you watch her slowly toughen up as things go wrong, which i thought was a nice touch instead of just screaming and running the whole time like a lot of these movies do. condor's character is more the dominant one of the friend group and it was interesting seeing her play against her usual roles too.
the rest of the friend group (gavin casalegno, nico hiraga, tommi rose) all do their part too, nobody's carrying dead weight here, and there's some old drama between a couple of them that bubbles up while they're trying not to die which honestly added a little more to care about than just "who's getting eaten next."
not gonna lie the plot itself isn't doing anything crazy new, it's basically your standard "trapped with a predator" setup, nothing you haven't seen before if you've watched any shark or cave horror movie ever made. i saw critics weren't super into it either, and yeah i get some of the criticism, some side characters don't get a ton to work with and a couple lines felt a bit cheesy ngl, especially some of the "we need to stick together" type speeches.
but honestly i wasn't watching this for a masterclass in writing lol, i just wanted a fun tense watch and that's exactly what i got. the darkness/lighting stuff actually added a lot of tension too, you don't see the shark clearly most of the time which made it scarier tbh, way better than just throwing cgi shark in your face every five minutes like some of these movies do. there's something about barely seeing the thing hunting you that just hits different than a clear well-lit shot of a big rubbery cgi shark.
pacing wise it moves pretty quick too, doesn't drag in the middle which i was kinda worried about going in since a lot of these "trapped" movies start feeling repetitive after a while. this one keeps throwing new problems at the group so it never really slows down.
would i watch again? probably yeah, good popcorn horror flick, perfect for a friday night with snacks and low expectations. nothing groundbreaking, don't go in expecting some deep meaningful film, but it does what it sets out to do and does it well.

You have certainly watched at least one of them over the years, or at least heard of one. However, right now, an unexpected kind of “revival” is taking place, bringing these creatures back into the spotlight. Here, though, the mistake is brutal.
Bringing together a group of friends as the main characters, the plot revolves around their adventure in Thailand. A paradise-like place, full of natural beauty. When they decide to explore the “Devil’s Mouth”, what they find there is far more than a simple guided dive... It will literally become a fight for survival. Beneath the water, they have no idea that a bull shark (also known as a Zambezi shark) is “watching” them.
On paper, the movie’s plot has relatively interesting potential by trying to explore the claustrophobic side of this kind of adventure. In practice, what the movie delivers is a shameful construction (both in terms of its narrative and its characters), made even worse by trying to take itself far too seriously. The screenplay’s approach presents itself as fundamentally bad from its very first minutes, as if it were “foreshadowing” its own poor quality.
The clichés surrounding the characters “scream” before the film even has a chance to properly introduce them, and what follows is a collection of scenes where we get to know them not by their names, but by their respective behaviors. This automatically becomes a drawback because the clichés, so easily recognizable within seconds, reveal the fragility of a poorly written, lazy, and highly opportunistic script.
Every bit of creative potential within the narrative is wasted because the screenplay has all the characters deal with the main threat in the dumbest ways possible. Literally, it’s a “festival” of bad decisions that turns (almost) the entire movie into a bizarre unintentional comedy (and a terrible one, at that). It’s impossible to feel any empathy for any of them (they’re all unbearable), and ironically, I can say it’s pretty easy to root for the villain.
It would not be an exaggeration to say that this project’s biggest *clickbait* is perhaps the fact that it sells itself as a violent movie (or at least tries to; and fails with flying colors), because at the same time, it wants to scare the audience on the other side of the screen while carrying a considerably mild age rating. In other words, the physical violence is very restrained (as are the shark’s naturally bloodthirsty and “strategic” traits) compared to the weight of the story.
**Kathryn Newton **leads an unremarkable cast, with performances that range from apathetic to cartoonish. The drama behind the cave exploration is extremely superficial and serves only as a shallow device to give the screenplay an excuse to “trap” all the characters in the same place (and under frightening circumstances within a more realistic context). Relying on dark settings, the movie saves on lighting to create its tension.
Directed by **Jeff Wadlow** with a dull and inconsistent pace, it is clear that (at least for more demanding audiences, I would say) ***The Devil’s Mouth*** is the kind of movie that is technically poor (bad visual effects and messy editing are just two good examples), inconsistent with its main premise, and despite its visual effort to stay afloat, ultimately ends up being “devoured” by its *nonsensical* development (especially throughout its entire third act).

Este año ha sido “curiosamente” interesante cuando hablamos de películas de suspenso/horror que involucran a un villano ya muy conocido dentro del subgénero *slasher*: los **tiburones**. Seguramente ya habrás visto alguna de ellas a lo largo de los años, o al menos habrás oído hablar de alguna. Sin embargo, precisamente ahora está ocurriendo una especie de “rescate” inesperado, devolviendo a estas criaturas a la cresta de la ola. No obstante, aquí el error es brutal.
Reuniendo a un grupo de amigos como personajes principales, la trama gira en torno a su aventura en Tailandia. Un lugar paradisíaco, lleno de bellezas naturales. Cuando deciden explorar la “boca del diablo”, lo que encontrarán allí será mucho más que una simple inmersión guiada... Será literalmente una lucha por la supervivencia. Bajo el agua, no tienen idea de que un tiburón toro (también conocido como tiburón de hocico chato) los está “espiando”.
Sobre el papel, la trama de la película tiene un potencial relativamente interesante al intentar explorar todo el lado claustrofóbico de este tipo de aventura. En la práctica, lo que esta película ofrece es una construcción vergonzosa (tanto en lo que respecta a la narrativa como a sus personajes), y que se vuelve aún peor por intentar tomarse demasiado en serio. El enfoque del guion se presenta como algo primordialmente malo desde sus primeros minutos, como si “anticipara” su baja calidad.
Los clichés relacionados con los personajes “gritan” incluso antes de que la película tenga la oportunidad de presentarlos oficialmente, y lo que ocurre después es un montón de escenas en las que todos los vamos conociendo no por sus nombres, sino por sus respectivas actitudes. Eso automáticamente se convierte en un demérito, porque los clichés, fácilmente reconocibles en pocos segundos, muestran toda la fragilidad de un guion mal escrito, perezoso y bastante oportunista.
Todo el potencial creativo de la narrativa se desperdicia, porque el guion hace que todos los personajes enfrenten la principal amenaza de las maneras más estúpidas posibles. Literalmente, es un “festival” de malas decisiones que convierte (casi) toda la película en una extraña comedia involuntaria (y de muy mal gusto, por cierto). No es posible sentir ninguna empatía por ninguno de ellos (que son insoportables), e irónicamente, puedo decir que es bastante fácil apoyar al villano.
No sería ninguna exageración decir que el mayor *clickbait* de este proyecto, quizá, sea el hecho de venderse como una película violenta (o al menos intentarlo; y fracasar con honores), porque simultáneamente quiere asustar al público al otro lado de la pantalla teniendo una clasificación por edades considerablemente ligera. En otras palabras, la violencia física es muy moderada (así como el aspecto naturalmente sanguinario y “estratégico” del tiburón) en relación con el peso de la trama.
**Kathryn Newton** lidera un elenco inexpresivo, con interpretaciones que oscilan entre lo apático y lo caricaturesco. El drama detrás de la exploración de las cuevas es muy superficial y funciona únicamente como un recurso burdo para que el guion tenga una excusa para “encerrar” a todos los personajes en el mismo lugar (y en circunstancias aterradoras, dentro de un contexto más realista). Apostando por escenarios oscuros, el guion escatima en iluminación para crear su tensión.
Dirigida por **Jeff Wadlow** con un ritmo aburrido e inconsistente, resulta evidente que (al menos para el público más exigente, diría yo) ***La Boca del Diablo*** es ese tipo de película técnicamente mala (los malos efectos especiales y una edición desordenada son solo dos buenos ejemplos de ello), incoherente con su propuesta principal y que, a pesar de su esfuerzo visual por mantenerse en pie, termina siendo “devorada” por su desarrollo *nonsense* (especialmente a lo largo de todo su tercer acto).

No entanto, precisamente agora está acontecendo uma espécie “resgate” inesperado, trazendo de volta essas criaturas para a crista da onda. No entanto, aqui, o erro é brutal.
