The Knights is a series that will make you want to watch more, it has very interesting characters that make the series not boring. One of my favorites was the character Freddy, Eddie's older brother, a man with addictions who always gets into trouble and who in the end realizes that his younger brother is who in the end should be the Duke of Halstead like his father. had foreseen in his will. The brotherly relationship between Eddie and Freddy felt real and very beautiful, I loved it.

In conclusion, it is a series with fun touches, there is action, blood and many other things that make it an excellent option to watch. I would have liked a touch of romance to make it perfect in my personal opinion. I hope you have the opportunity to see it and I hope you like it as much as I do, I say goodbye to you, hugs hivers.

  2. The Gentlemen 2024 Review@filotasriza3827d

    image.png

I don't know about you but i think 2024 has already offered some great series with huge potential. Literally, every month there is one or two series that i would rate with 8/10 and above and i am not really that easy giving these reviews. You see after you watch thousands of movies/series/anime you start to have expectations in every aspect.

You pay attention to the plot, the character development, the dialogs, scenario, acting, sceneries, fight scenes if any, comedy/drama aspect, CGI and the list goes on forever. So yesterday The Gentlemen series came to my attention randomly while i was searching for a new series to watch.

I have seen the name a couple of weeks ago but to tell you the truth i didn't think that would be worth my time and boy i was so wrong. I later realized that the creator of this show is Guy Ritchie who you may know from Snatch and Sherlock Holmes.

The series is brand new it was released a couple of weeks ago (March 7th) through Netflix and has 8 episodes in total. I don't know whether there will be a second season or so but i really hope so as the show is pretty good and a bit different from any other we have seen, in a way ofc.

    Plot

    image.png

So this is another Mafia/Drugs story but with a twist. The story is set in UK and revolves around Eddie who is a young aristocrat working as a UN Soldier. He learns that his father is about to die and that he needs to come back home to see him. So he comes back to his family castle, note that his father is a duke, where he meets again with his family, his sister and his crazy big brother.

His father dies and even though by tradition the older kid gets to inherit everything, his father knowing that his eldest son is batshit crazy and stupid he leaves everything to Eddie. Ofc his elder brother doesn't take this lightly but he has no other choice.

Soon also, he will meet Ms. Glass an associate of his father who explains their business relationship which will continue now with Eddie. Pretty much the castle and the Duke as many other Dukes have financial issues and basically, one of the biggest Marijuana cartels let's say, had a deal with his dad.

The deal is that in an area inside the dukedom, they have an underground plantation and basically pay let's say a rent fee to the Duke. This is considered a great move as most of the Dukes have many ties with the government which makes it quite hard for everyone to assume that they are involved in drugs. Even if they do so it's difficult to search them due to their connections as well as the connection of the cartel. So in other words it's the perfect place.

Now the new Duke Eddie will face the dilemma of what to do and how he will manage to get rid of the Mafia from his estate. To do that though he will need to get his hands dirty as well which makes the show interesting.

    Good & Bad

Now the interesting thing is the plot itself. It's not a mysterious plot or something, it's actually pretty straightforward but the interesting thing, at least for me is that i haven't seen anything like that, that involves the estate of a Duke and a drug plantation at the same place. I never talk about acting in general, i only point out if it's good which it is actually pretty good. If it was bad i would talk more!

Also, the fight scenes, even though not many, are pretty good, the music is quite awesome as well as the sceneries but the most unique thing in my mind are the characters. It's one of them has his own personality and i don't only talk about the protagonists. Some of the "villains" let's say are pretty damn unique, like the Gospel, for example, a crazy Mafia boss that is all about Jesus while he is killing people.

The only negative thing i have to say is the brother of Eddie, Freddy, who is basically quite crazy and stupid which makes it quite entertaining and the actor does a pretty awesome work in that regard. The negative thing is that there is no further development for him in the show. Let's hope that in case of a second season, it will be!

Overall, if you like these kinds of shows then it is definitely worth your time. If you want to see something with less action, no drugs/mafia plot and with a deeper plot then this sho isn't for you. I would rate it with 8/10 and i think it has potential for 1 more or 2 seasons that can uplift my rate to an 8.5 even 9 if it's done correctly.

  3. The Gentlemen (film): Not Ritchie's best, but still really good@netflixr888d

Guy Ritchie has a particular directing style that I think I can speak for almost everyone when I say that it is appreciated. This deviates slightly from his "lock stock and snatch" style and I was kind of happy to see that because you do want your favorite directors to mix things up a bit when they are making films.

It does kind of fall into Ritchie's fascination with crime and especially organized crime though.

This movie takes place in the UK but features a couple of American main characters and I think this was done mostly to find a way to get Matthew McConaughey into the cast by any means necessary.

    image.png src

You likely don't recognize most of the other names in this linup other than Hugh Grant and Colin though and this is another thing that I tend to appreciate about Guy Ritchie. He takes a few really well known names and then mixes them in with relative unknowns and it all just works out so perfectly most of the time.

There were a few aspects of the film that I found a bit annoying and one of them is actually quite critical to how the story is told. Basically, the narrator of the entire story is Hugh Grant who plays the role of an investigative reporter who is attempting to blackmail a crime "family." His character named Fletcher just has kind of an annoying way about him and I tired quite quickly of him being the voice behind the story.

    image.png src

I think being a snarky, quick-witted, conman was a bit of a deviation from what Hugh Grant normally does and I kind of felt like he was out of his element in this role. This might not be entirely Grant's fault though because according to some sources I read Guy Ritchie only scheduled 5 days for filming all of Grant's footage and you have to keep in mind that although he isn't in really any action scenes, he does basically narrate the entire film. His part in the film is extremely dialogue heavy and his script was apparently 40 pages long and he wasn't given much time to memorize his lines. He is a professional with plenty of experience so one would think that he would be up to the task anyway. Well, he created a cheat sheet for the days of filming but his car was broken into the day before filming his part began and one of the things that was stolen was his cheat sheet.

Hugh would later say that getting this job done was one of the most difficult jobs he has had to do in his entire life and it was very stressful.

Let's move on from that though and focus on the overall story.

It involves a intricately planned underground marijuana processing ring in the UK and the way in which McConaughey's character Mickey Pearson organizes it and gets away with it all is actually pretty inventive. It's so good in fact that I wonder if precisely this sort of organization actually does exist in the UK. It seems like it would work to me. I'm not going to spoil what it is but you'll know when you see it. It is pure genius.

    image.png src

Much like other Ritchie films, there are a lot of characters involved in the story and if you don't pay careful attention you are quickly going to get lost in what the hell is going on. I particularly liked Colin Farrell's portrayal of "Coach" and his group of MMA underlings who go by the name of "the Toddlers."

    image.png src

Coach doesn't actually want anything to do with the criminal underworld but his group accidentally gets involved and he has to be the brains that gets them out of trouble. If I had to choose a favorite character in the entire film it would definitely be "Coach." Trust me on this one, you are going to like him as well.

As is typical with many Guy Ritchie films, the story changes direction multiple times as it goes on and while I wouldn't exactly say the ending was completely unpredictable, it does a good job of keeping you guessing as things go by. Keep in mind that you are definitely going to need to pay careful attention during the entire nearly 2 hour runtime otherwise you are going to be totally lost. There are just too many characters in this thing for you to be vacuuming the living room floor while it is going on.

    Should I watch it?

I don't think it is necessary for you to enjoy Ritchie's unique style of direction in order to enjoy this film but it probably wouldn't hurt. I really enjoy crime films, especially ones with a comical edge that is so unique to Ritchie's style, so for me this film was outstanding despite the fact that I found Hugh Grant's narration to be a bit annoying. While I wouldn't put this up there as one of Ritchie's best films, I do think it is much better than most of the films that I have watched in the past year or so. It managed to quadruple its budget at the box office, but then again, the fact that this film was made for a mere $22 million is pretty astounding to me. Ritchie must be great friends with these big stars to get them to be in his movies for so little money.

  4. The Gentlemen (film, 2020)@florenceboens933d

    Bonjour,

    A bientôt, bonnes soirées-tv !

The Gentlemen was released in 2019, written and directed by Guy Ritchie, produced by Miramax, has a duration of 1 hour and 53 minutes. It is a story of action and crime, the story takes place in England where an American drug lord laid the foundations to have a very profitable marijuana business, once the empire established and being very profitable decides that the time has come to retire to lead a quieter life; The problem arises precisely because of this, in the criminal world nobody "retires" peacefully and calmly so you will have to face all the consequences of wanting to stop being the king of the mafia.

I am the first to say that the soundtrack is very well achieved, it feels elegant and refined which gives the moments of action that touch of class that fits excellently well making that air of distinction is maintained throughout the film without negatively affecting the different moments of adrenaline.

The construction of the world is typical for this type of mafia premises, in fact it is based a lot on films like "Godfather" where the last link in the chain of crime is not shown but focuses on the high command of this, the connections they have made to be able to be in the position they are and so on; This topic is touched on but does not delve much into the matter because he prefers to opt more for what are the relationships between different bosses of the underworld and how they conduct their business without meddling in the affairs of others, being that when this balance is broken all hell breaks loose. It also touches on the issue of youth disrespecting the old and others although this treats it more in a comical way than it would be so it is not something relevant, the construction of the world is simple, without pretensions or complex aspirations, in fact I could say that it sins of hiding in simplicity so as not to go for something more ambitious.

The style of narrating the story is particular, I say the above because it is interspersed between the past and the present, this method of developing the plot becomes a bit tedious because the moments of dialogues without anything interesting to contribute are quite abundant being that the only thing they achieve is the fact of relaxing the plot after a tense moment; On the other hand what it does achieve in a good way are the comic moments that do not feel forced or out of place, they are included in a pleasant way making them fit perfectly and relax the plot, the problem with these is that they feel dissonant with the approach of the film, we are supposed to talk about mafia bosses with influences and power, Adding comedy takes the matter seriously. Finally we have the plot twists, in some cases these are well achieved and are pleasant but in others they feel extremely forced and more like a resource taken out of the sleeve with the sole purpose of benefiting specific characters.

The characters cannot be highlighted in any way, they lack any kind of characterization that makes them feel interesting outside the role they fulfill within the plot, they are only put to do things without emphasis on the characters; This seems sad to me because there are individuals who last a long time on screen and end up being complete strangers with a non-existent development, being that the film has relaxed moments that would have been perfect to have delved a little into its protagonists but ends up being wasted potential. I'm not talking about the antagonists are only there to be a joke that to some extent is funny, which is why I do not consider them a resounding failure.

The Gentlemen is a gangster movie that is interesting for the fact that it focuses on different capos with their lucrative businesses facing each other for different circumstances, the thing is that it does not present so much action as to consider it unbridled or weigh some complex issue to make it feel deep; All this makes him in a middle point in which he tries to do many things and ends up doing few satisfactorily. All this makes it worthy of 3.5 stars out of 7, it is a completely enjoyable film but it could have given more because it had the potential to do so.

When he moves comfortably in his environment Guy Ritchie is able to deliver us masterpieces, and this film only confirms this phrase. The Getleman is an English gangster movie that grabs your attention from before the opening credits, leaving us barely breathless at its breakneck pace.

It also has a top-notch cast with actors like Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Hugh Grant, Collin Farrell, among others, each doing a very good job, which helps the plot and the script, which are just very Well, let's take this movie to the next level, placing it among the best of 2019 on my personal list.

Within the seriousness of the film, you can see different very hilarious scenes and crazy things that look very good, such as the robbery by the Coach's boys (Collin Farrell) of one of Mickey's farms, with the subsequent battle and the music video on social networks, all crack, jajaja.

The direction of the film seemed very good to me, as well as all the settings, taking care of every detail in them. The script and the way the story was told, the characters presented, their motivations and how voracious they are, the story, with hardly any mistakes, with great rhythm and Ritchie's characteristic black humor, I did not think everything was pure genius.

To finish, I risk a bit in saying that for me this film is a masterpiece, that will keep you sitting on the couch for the 113 minutes it lasts, but what do you want me to say, if I wrote otherwise I would be lying to you. I'm going to make some cotufas (popcorn) to see her again, jajaja.

  7. The Gentlemen // FILM REVIEW@jcrodriguez2217d

It's been a long time since I've seen the films Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, two films that I really liked at the time. The Gentlemen reminded me of why I enjoy so much, the mobster movies made by Guy Ritchie.

    Source IMDB- Edited in photoshop

Michael Pearson , head of a drug trafficking empire, plans to retire, selling the entire successful structure of the organization to a Jewish millionaire for $400 million. Dry Eye, a young man on the rise within the Chinese mafia, enters the game, making him an offer to acquire the business and in addition, a group of young people who fight very well, and upload their exploits to the Internet, raid one of the secret headquarters where Michael grows marijuana. All this will cause betrayals, fights and confrontations, typical among these criminal gangs, to jeopardize the sale of the business. All dosed with a little violence and a lot of black humor.

The Gentlemen has all the signs that distinguish the director. Accelerated pace, black humor, voiceover, slow motion and fragmented narration. The story catches you and doesn't let go until the denouement.

I've enjoyed most of this filmmaker's films. He has his style, which he injects into the films he has made. He's given Ritchie style to Sherlock Holmes, to the man from U.N.C.L.E. and even to King Arthur.

There's one thing this man knows how to do: he can give stories a crazy beat, turning them into great entertainment products. What do we want from a movie? That it's pretty entertaining! That we don't stop looking at the screen, concentrating on the story.

Many of the director's followers criticized him for taking over the direction of the real-life version of Aladdin, the Disney film that was a box-office success. I didn't see it, because it doesn't attract my attention, and I'm not going to see it either. But I'm not going to criticize Ritchie for that. Every filmmaker has the right to do commissioned work, some are bound by a contract they signed. Besides, a couple of million dollars to do a job for hire doesn't hurt anybody. What would you do?

For this film, a fabulous cast of great actors has been put together, and they've had a great time making it. That's reflected on the screen. Each with their own moment to shine. There are some who, despite having less time on screen, manage to steal the show.

Collin Farrel is great in the few appearances, he suits the role of "The Coach" very well. Matthew McConaughey plays Michael Pearson, the gangster who has built an empire by trafficking marijuana, because marijuana doesn't kill anyone. Charlie Hunnam plays Raymond, Michael's right-hand man. He repeats with the director, after having starred in the King Arthur version. The other actor who makes it great is Hugh Grant, who plays the investigator Fletcher, a character who will guide the narration of almost all the film's footage.

It's a men's film. A lot of testosterone everywhere. That's my only regret. Actress Michelle Dockery plays Micheal's wife, Rosalind Pearson. The main character's weak point. The actress is known for the series Downton Abbey. The character she plays in the film, although she has her scene to show off, could have been more important. The actress already has experience playing rough women, I recommend seeing the mini-series Godless, an excellent western where she is one of the main characters.

The pig...making a clear self homage, in the movie there is a pig, protagonist of a scene that we never get to see, but just to imagine it, is to laugh and feel disgust at the same time. Harvey? The end of the film gives us another scene that produces the same feeling as the scene with the pig. You have to see it, you'll recognize it right away. The gangsters in The Gentlemen may be a little more refined than those seen in the director's first films, but twenty years have passed and we are not the same as before.

    My Rankin: 4/5
