   Amigos de verdad que la próxima vez me compro una suscripción en una plataforma que no sea Netflix, porque de verdad no hay nada que ver 😒, me aparecen las mismas 5 películas cuando busco recomendaciones en en el menú principal, entonces busco producciones y no están para Venezuela. Pero bueno, Tenía rato que no veía una película que para mí valiera las casi dos horas y media, les hablo de:

   Wiesler siempre fue un hombre solitario y devoto a su trabajo, así que durante una obra de teatro su capitán le avisa que fue asignado para espiar al dramaturgo Dreyman, todo esto debido a que el ministro de cultura se enamoró de una de las actrices, que justamente es la pareja de este escritor y lo quiere fuera del camino para poder quedarse con ella. Al día siguiente un equipo profesional instala en la casa de Dreyman micrófonos, y Wiesler se instala en una habitación en la acera del enfrente de su edificio.

   Wiesler has always been a solitary man devoted to his work, so during a play his captain tells him that he has been assigned to spy on the playwright Dreyman, all because the minister of culture has fallen in love with one of the actresses, who just happens to be the writer's partner, and wants him out of the way so he can keep her. The next day a professional team installs microphones in Dreyman's house, and Wiesler moves into a room on the sidewalk in front of his building.

   Con acceso total a la vida privada del escritor y su pareja, empieza a empatizar con su situación y todo esto empieza a influir en su visión de la vida. Las cosas comienzan a complicarse cuando un amigo cercano a Dreyman se suicida y este decide hacer un artículo sobre el tema pero está totalmente prohibido, por lo que junto a otros dos amigos logran publicarlo en el occidente, pero al enterarse las autoridades se ponen en marcha para encontrar al responsable del escrito y Wiesler se encuentra frente al dilema de si involucrarse o no.

   With full access to the private life of the writer and his partner, he begins to empathize with their situation and all this begins to influence his outlook on life. Things start to get complicated when a close friend of Dreyman's commits suicide and he decides to do an article on the subject but it is totally forbidden, so he and two other friends manage to publish it in the West, but when the authorities find out, they set out to find the person responsible for the writing and Wiesler is faced with the dilemma of whether to get involved or not.

   El comienzo puede ser un poco lento, pero les aseguro que vale totalmente la pena. No esperaba que una producción que no tiene ningún tipo de acción o persecución lograra atraparme y mantenerme atenta a lo que pasaba. En términos generales es una película bastante sencilla, pero está tan bien hecha y dirigida, que mantiene su esencia hasta el final sin tener que recurrir a incluir relleno innecesario.

   The beginning may be a bit slow, but I assure you it is totally worth it. I didn't expect a production that doesn't have any action or chase to manage to grab me and keep me attentive to what was going on. Overall it's a pretty straightforward film, but it's so well made and directed, that it maintains its essence until the end without having to resort to including unnecessary filler.

   La interpretación de Ulrich es simplemente genial, la de los demás también jajaja, sólo que siento que la de él tuvo mayor peso. Claro, también hay que destacar el hecho de que contaron con un buen guión, una buena historia y otros detalles que la hicieron merecedora de diversos premios importantes y ser considerada como una de las mejores de ese país.

   Ulrich's performance is simply great, and so is everyone else's, hahaha, I just feel that his had more weight. Of course, we must also highlight the fact that they had a good script, a good story and other details that made it worthy of several important awards and be considered one of the best of that country.

   Por otro lado, se pudo ver un poco de ese lado oscuro que se vivió en esa época y cómo funcionaba todo. Y para finalizar , puedo decir que cuenta con uno de los mejores finales que he visto, me pareció tan bonito y emocional que hasta solté una lágrima. Se las recomiendo totalmente 😌.

   On the other hand, you could see a little of that dark side that was lived at that time and how everything worked. And finally, I can say that it has one of the best endings I've seen, I found it so beautiful and emotional that I even shed a tear. I totally recommend it 😌.

   "¿Y si estoy del lado equivocado de la historia?"

   Das Leben der Anderen, conocida en inglés como The Lives of Others y en español como La vida de los otros es una película alemana del año 2006 y fue el debut como guionista y director de Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. Y vaya debut, porque con esta cinta arrasó no sólo en las ceremonias nacionales, sino que obtuvo además el Premio Oscar a Mejor película de habla no inglesa y el BAFTA en la misma categoría.

   Se trata de un drama con tintes románticos, políticos y mucho más. La historia transcurre en la República Democrática Alemana, en el de año 1984. Recordemos que durante la guerra fría, tras la segunda guerra mundial y hasta la caída del muro de Berlín, Alemania estaba dividida en República Democrática Alemana (RDA) o Alemania del Este y la República Federal Alemana (RFA) o Alemania Occidental. La primera con ideología influenciada por la Unión Soviética y la otra mucho más occidentalizada, influenciada por los aliados. Es en este marco, en la RDA, donde se mueve el capitán Wiesler, un oficial leal y efectivo dentro del servicio de inteligencia y espionaje Stasi, esa policía secreta del régimen comunista de su país que se encargaba, entre otras cosas, de vigilar a los posibles enemigos de la patria.

   Al inicio de la cinta lo vemos simultáneamente en una sala de interrogatorios y en un aula de clases en donde imparte sus conocimientos sobre cómo obtener información de sus prisioneros y cómo saber si dicen la verdad. Es un hombre frío, profesional y muy competente. Es por eso que le encargan una tarea que acabará trastocando toda su vida: vigilar a Georg Dreyman, un dramaturgo y escritor fiel al régimen, de quien Wiesler sospecha que no es del todo confiable. El ministro de cultura Bruno Hempf piensa lo mismo, no porque note algo extraño en Dreyman, sino porque desea quitarlo de en medio para quedarse con su novia, la actriz Christa-Maria Sieland.

   El teniente coronel Anton Grubitz funge como superior de Wiesler, pero lo conoce desde la academia y confía en que con su olfato podrá descubrir, más temprano que tarde, alguna información para hundir al escritor. Pero, poco a poco, van ocurriendo una serie de hechos que difuminan la marcada línea del inicio entre lo correcto y lo incorrecto (según lo que piensan los personajes). Georg descubre los avances del ministro sobre su novia y decide hacer algo para denunciar las grietas del régimen, para lo cual "aprovecha" el suicidio de un amigo y colega suyo y publica un artículo en la RFA con la colaboración de algunos amigos. Wiesler, por su parte, se va dando cuenta de que algunos peces gordos, son leales por conveniencia y no por convicción y, de tanto escuchar las conversaciones entre Dreyman y su novia, va tomando partido por ellos, llegando a comprometer su trabajo e incluso su vida, por actuar en favor de ellos.

   La película cuenta la historia de amor entre Georg y su novia, los secretos personales que mantienen para proteger al otro; el drama político de un régimen comunista en decadencia que busca y encuentra enemigos en cualquier lugar y que no tolera las bromas ni las diferencias de pensamiento; pero sobre todo se trata de la historia de un hombre que en un momento de su vida descubre que los pilares sobre los que había edificado toda su existencia, de pronto no son tan firmes. ¿Y si estuviera equivocado? ¿si lo que hago no está bien? y tomando como referencia ese infame muro físico e ideológico que se edificó en Alemania, se pregunta ¿y si estoy del lado equivocado de la historia?. El montaje, la dirección, las actuaciones, cada elemento de la cinta, juegan un papel fundamental pero no sobresaliente sobre el resto, con lo que la película funciona perfectamente como un todo unificado. Se trata de una cinta que se disfruta, cuya trama es convincente, creíble, cuya tensión es palpable y cuyo cierre es perfecto para la historia. Por todo ello, le doy 9/10 puntos y la recomiendo a todos los amantes del buen cine.

   Glasnost means openness.  Perestroika means restructuring.  I remember serving in the Marine Corps and being amazed that we would allow Russian brass to examine our troops.  The Russians seemed fascinated at the structure of the Marine Corps (and US Military in general) and the structure that allows NCOs to provide the backbone of leadership.  Before Gorbachev was elected head of the Communist Party, places like East Germany remained under the shroud of darkness, secrecy and corruption.

   

   The Lives of Others takes place in East Germany five years before the Berlin Wall was ripped down by the people.  East Germany in 1984 was still monitored closely by the secret police (Stasi) who used extreme measures to maintain control and limit embarrassment to the government.  It is estimated that 1984 Germany had 100,000 Stasi and 200,000 informants.  With that kind of manpower, very little went unnoticed.

   

   Hauptman Wiesler (Ulrich Muhe) works for the Stasi.  As a Colonel, he is a trusted member of the secret police who has been a star student.  His specialty is interrogation.  Wiesler is convinced by his good friend and cultural minister Grubitz (Ulrich Tukur) to leave the classroom and head up a special project titled "Lazlo."  Wiesler is tasked with spying on a playwright named Georg Dreyman (Sebastian Koch) whose actress girlfriend Christa-Maria Sieland (Martina Gedeck) is having a forced affair with Central Party Minister Bruno Hempf (Thomas Thieme).  The entire operation is driven by political motives that skewer Wiesler's thinking, freeing him to engage in unorthodox activity. 

   

   The situation begins to unfold.  Stuff rolls downhill and, in this case, Wiesler finds himself on the bottom.  With the mission failing to provide the intended results and an additional plot going unthwarted, Wiesler becomes the subject of suspicion himself.  His superior knows how cagey he is (not to make you groan...but he put the "cagey" in "KGB").  With little recourse, Wiesler finds himself cleaning up his own mess and awaiting the consequences.  The consequences are less severe but subtly rewarding as we witness outcomes of the various characters following the removal of the Berlin Wall.

   

   
   The Lives of Others contains a complex well-written plot that engages the audience.  The run-time is nearly two and a half hours, but moves quickly with little sluggish pacing.  The characters are definitively created with depth and clarity.  The interactions between the characters had credibility and added tension to some of the scenes.  The resolution at the end of the film was rewarding and only slightly predictable.  The dialogue was fresh and interesting.  Writer/Director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck created something very close to being a classic.

   

   Muhe was convincingly eerie as the stoic hard-corps party interrogator.  The role required some stretches for the actor, who deftly brought flesh to his character.  The tension between his character and Tukur's showed credible signs of the stress caused by betrayal among close life-long friends.  The two shared an amazing chemistry that added realism to the story.  More betrayal was found in Gedeck's character, which seems to struggle with conflicting forces.  Gedeck was enjoyable and convincing.  Koch's character starts out seeming cocky but must win the audience over.  Koch manages to connect with the audience to make them want his character to succeed.  He does an excellent job of balancing the various aspects of his character without losing the audience.  The Lives of Others was exceptionally well cast.  It is loaded with characters who have conviction and passion and seem capable of walking off the screen into your living room.

   

   The Lives of Others was given an R Rating by the MPAA for a couple of naked shower scenes that showed very little nudity and a couple of sex scenes, one with no nudity but a bit of forcefulness.  There were several adult themes running through the film.  There is a tragic death with a mild gore factor near the end of the film.  As a whole, the artistic elements of this film and the tasteful nature of the questionable material causes me to apply a somewhat liberal consideration to the age range.  I would think teenagers of any age could handle the steamy material for the sake of the important themes and exceptional cinematic qualities of this film. Run time is two hours, seventeen minutes.

   

   The Lives of Others won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2006.  The award was well-deserved.  I have watched several films that have won that award and have liked most, but some I have only liked moderately.  This film was exceptional and comes highly recommended.  The great acting, writing, cinematography and pacing make this slightly long film pass quickly.  A long film that feels short is always an indication of excellence.  That is the best word I can give this film.  Excellence. 9/10.

   Ֆիլմը, իհարկե, քաղաքականացված է, բայց դա չի նշանակում, որ բարոյական դրաման հեռանում է ֆոնին: Ֆիլմը ուժեղ է այն ամենով, ինչ տարբերվում է եվրոպական կինոյի, հատկապես փառատոնից.
