I just love it when pure cinematics gold drops on my laps.
Like I don't go searching, the ideal situation would be me just doom scrolling on Instagram and see a clip or a scene of a movie and I know yes, this one glitters and it is gold.
And that's what just happened here!
The Man From Earth.

## How much time does one really need?
That's the thought that went through my head as I finished this movie yesterday.
It's a science fiction, yet it is possible, because anything is possible.
I believe that's just one of the major strengths about this show. The fact that this concept is possible is the most intriguing bit and it really brings an air of sobriety to the viewers.
The idea that
"He can be anywhere, he can be anyone, just walking amongst us, and he might not be the only one."
Really makes your brain tik.
Exactly so.
This movie manages to touch numerous themes, mostly on morals, religion and humanity itself.
It leaves you questioning everything asking about everything and then believing in nothing.
As John, the Caveman recounts his past experiences, his past lives and persona's we see just how easy history could be full of misconceptions and just how some people could react to it.
At a point, we are left to really think on what John has said, our denial making us question his sanity, for we know we aren't sane thus he must be insane.
Yet the sad truth is that there's no way for him to make us believe him, yet there's no way for us to disprove his stories either.
This also adds an air of the mystique, for we take this full load of information and don't know what to do with it.
The last bit of genius shown in the movie is the overall setting of it all.
This movie, the full 97 minutes of it is simple a discussion between John and his friends with one student in a cabin room.
There are 6 professors and one student, a room filled with bright minds in different areas of study relating to what John the Caveman is talking about, and their inability to disprove him further layers the sense of truth in what he's saying leaving us all trapped.
We get to watch slowly as John answers their questions and slowly, with his answers convince them about whatever aspect of history that was asked, until they reached breaking point and he decided to give them the peace of mind they so desperately needed.
This is a single discussion, a single dialogue between a 14,000 year old Cro Magnum, and six professors in archeology, historian, theology, anthropology, biology and psychiatry with two students; Linda Murphy and you the viewer who looks on with wonder and a little sense of imagination.
I give this movie a 10 stars, and I completely recommend it to anyone interested in watching it.
Keep an open mind, and just see how easily perspectives could change.

Realmente te pone a prueba.
¡Exactamente!

The film follows the story of John Oldman, a college professor who reveals to his colleagues on his last night in town an incredible secret: he has lived over 14,000 years and has witnessed human history since its inception!
When John shares his incredible story, his colleagues are forced to question their beliefs about life, death and what it means to be human.
“The Man from Earth” by Jerome Bixby immerses us in an intellectual and philosophical journey in which ideas about immortality, memory, and the purpose of existence are woven into a fascinating and mystery-filled plot.
Through the deep and thoughtful conversations between the characters, the film invites the viewer to reflect on universal themes and explore the infinite possibilities of the human experience.
Focused on intelligent dialogue and provocative ideas, the film challenges us to think beyond the limits of our understanding and to consider the implications of immortality in a world where time is relative and truth is subjective.
As John shares his extraordinary story, the viewer is taken on a fascinating journey that questions long-held beliefs and challenges accepted notions about reality and existence.
Written and directed by Richard Schenkman, it was a true indie crowd-pleaser and proved that films set entirely in singular locations can seem just as epic and awe-inspiring as those that span worlds.
Made on a budget of $200,000, it grossed $100,000 in theaters and garnered even greater success on DVD/streaming for years.
Although it didn't receive major award nominations for its ambitious contemplative style, it gained a cult following among sci-fi fans worldwide.
Lead actor David Lee Smith delivered a nuanced performance as the mysterious Professor John Oldman.
Schenkman accomplished the difficult feat of spinning fine lines with a cerebral script.
With thought-provoking discussions of anthropology, history and the essence of humanity, it left audiences enthralled like few modern films.
›(ESP/ ENG) REVIEW "The Man from Earth: Ciencia Ficción que Desafía la Imaginación desde una Sola Habitación" / "The Man from Earth: Imagination-Challenging Science Fiction from a Single Room"@cherryblossom20700d
ENGLISH
Hello everyone! Today I want to share with you my impressions about a movie that, although it is not a big budget film nor has dazzling special effects, it manages to be a masterpiece of science fiction: The Man from Earth. This is a film that, despite its simplicity, leaves a deep impression on those who see it. Without exaggerating, I think this is the best low-budget film you will find and I dare to say also that the script is sublime. The real question is, are you ready to have your mind blown by a movie that takes place almost solely in the living room of an ordinary house?
A Fascinating Concept
The premise of The Man from Earth is simple but incredibly intriguing. The film centers on John Oldman, a college professor who, during an impromptu farewell with his colleagues, reveals that he has lived for 14,000 years. Yes, you read that right: 14,000 years. Over the course of an hour and a half, the film becomes a fascinating discussion of history, religion, science and human nature all in one room. It's amazing how a well-written script can sustain a movie with almost no physical action and keep you on the edge of your seat.
Convincing Acting
The weight of the film rests entirely on the dialogue and the performances of the cast, and I must say that all the actors do an impressive job. David Lee Smith, who plays John Oldman, manages to convey a sense of antiquity and wisdom that makes you believe in the possibility that he might actually be immortal. His colleagues, played by lesser-known actors, react with a range of emotions from disbelief to anger to sadness, making the conversation dynamic and richly nuanced.
What impressed me most about The Man from Earth is how, through a seemingly impossible conversation, deeply human themes are explored. The film invites you to question many things: history as we know it, the influence of religion, and what it really means to be human. Each character represents a different perspective-from the skeptical scientist to the devout believer-and this allows the discussion to feel balanced and thoughtful.
The film proves that you don't need special effects, big sets or a star-studded cast to tell a powerful story. With a tight budget and a single set, The Man from Earth manages to be infinitely more intriguing than many big-budget productions. It all comes down to smart scripting and precise direction, which maintain tension and interest until the very last minute.
Aspectos Negativos
Negative Aspects
This is not a movie for everyone. If you prefer action and fast pacing, you may find this film slow or even boring. Also, the lack of visual variety (since everything takes place in one room) may be a challenge for some viewers. But if you enjoy science fiction that makes you think, this movie is a treat.
Conclusion
The Man from Earth is a hidden gem that deserves to be seen by any science fiction lover. It is a film that challenges the imagination without the need for special effects or action sequences. Instead, it offers an intellectual journey that leaves you pondering long after the credits have ended. If you've ever wondered what would happen if an immortal man shared his story, this movie is for you.
Have you seen it yet, what do you think, leave me your thoughts in the comments!😄
English Version
What would happen if someday someone confessed to us (with arguments, not opinions) that he has lived 14,000 years? That is to say, and to put it in a more appropriate and perfect context to understand; that from the time of the caves, in the Upper Paleolithic to the present day, in the XXI century, a human being has been able to overcome death, but above all has stopped aging? Yes, this is the premise of one of the most intellectually charged films I have seen (and really enjoyed) in a long time. And all thanks to a recommendation from a great friend.... This is my analysis/review, and I warn you that I will touch on sensitive, controversial topics, but with respect...
Now let's get started... "John", is the name of the protagonist of this film. He is a college teacher, who is presented to us as a guy who is about to move. In fact, the whole movie takes place in his living room. It turns out that it has been 10 years since he (John) has lived and resided there. No one knows, no one has asked, but our beloved protagonist has a rather shocking secret.... He is also a man of method. Meaning, after a certain period, he undertakes a "reset". He simply drops everything he ever had, and starts anew.
Perhaps I'm not making myself too clear, but the good things always wait a little bit... Besides, what is really transcendental in this film is not what happens, but the plot. And the fact is that, as a good teacher, John has a circle of friends that he has been able to gather throughout his stay in that place (not specified in the film). So his classmates come to his house, and decide to have a brief but profound meeting where everything changes forever. He was not expecting them. In fact, the story begins with John finalizing the details with the moving company. Moving boxes from one place to another.
Immediately after, his colleagues arrive at his home, and bring beers and something to eat. Ready to sit down and let the hours go by while they chat and have a good time. Nothing could be further from the truth... How does the plot "take off"? Well, John's anxiety and restlessness causes his companions to notice his distress, and they begin to ask him "what's wrong". John, elusive and stoic, insists that "nothing unusual is going on, that he just wasn't expecting visitors at that time". It is so obvious that he is lying, that his fellow teachers, insist and insist until John, both overwhelmed by the questions and a little intrigued begins with a rather curious idea....
In principle, he poses it as a "research for a novel" that he wants to write "The Man From Earth". Where a human being has lived uninterruptedly for the last 14,000 years of human history. Stopping his aging at the age of 35, and staying that way forever. This individual, as John relates, is a Cro-Magnon man, and has been at every event that has shaped mankind for 14 millennia.... He starts with the discovery of language, at the end of the Paleolithic, and even tells how "some things" have not changed at all.... Like "whistling" at certain types of women, by men.
Such specific, historically appropriate, and temporally perfect details John provides, that the other professors (from branches such as: anthropology, physics, biology, history, and theology/art) immediately notice, that what the protagonist is telling them is far from just a novel.... "How does he know such a wealth of details, if John is just a professor who teaches philosophy and religion?", many of them wonder.... Immediately, this changes the subject of attention of the conversation, and everything evolves. From a monologue to an extremely substantial and profound discussion.
John, before the gaze and skepticism of his audience, continues with his story and involves the different stages of Humanity. Questions about the origin of the species, or whether he "remembers exactly where he was born," pervade the atmosphere of the film. John, patient but forceful, answers that it is absurd to trust the senses. And what to answer that question, would be the same as asking a 90 year old man, if he remembers with accuracy and detail everything about the first place he saw when he was 4 years old. Obviously, it is impossible to remember that.... Besides, he adds, in that time Humanity has changed a lot. They were nomads, they didn't stay in one place.
They had roles. To hunt-gather, to take care of themselves, to bury their dead; to mourn, to move on: to survive. He indicates (John) that his family group "noticed" what was happening to him, and immediately banished him. They believed him to be a kind of first vampire. That is, a being "who absorbed the vital energy" of others for his own benefit. Before, human bonds were not as dependent as they are now. It was more about survival and watching each other's backs. John lived through countless generations of human beings, and survived them all, immune, unchanging, wise and empty at the same time.
From meeting the Great Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama) in Nepal to preaching the teachings of wisdom, love, tolerance and acceptance in Galilee and Judea? And yes, I told you this would be controversial, and I didn't lie.... At the time, the mere name "John" did not exist. Since in Hebrew he was called "Yeshua" by his "followers" (we know him as "apostles"), and with the romanization of the language, he came to be called "Jesus". The message of the "son of God" is the message of the master Buddha... And here I do not come to give my own value judgments on the subject. I only come to review a path of science, philosophy, theology and masterly anthropology.
John's journey through the intellect and the events that have historically, geographically and scientifically marked our reality is simply beautiful. This film, shot on a couple of locations, has it all. Dialogues, a powerful script, and actors that make a deep plot that can grab you from the first moment. Plus, it's shot and set in 2007; one of the best years in the history of mankind? Before the boom of technology that today distances us from each other, but far from the cloister of past times. Believe me when I tell you, this film will blow your mind.... And yes, it is available in English-Spanish on YouTube, for free.

Greetings friends of Hive, I hope you are well, today I come to share a wonderful movie, which was recommended to me, it is said to be the best science fiction movie without using any technology. This caught my attention so I did not hesitate to put it, I wanted to see what was the cinematographic challenge of Director Richard Schenkman.
The film begins when John Oldman (David Lee Smith) is putting away some boxes while other people arrive on location, each with their own car; These would be professors working with John, who are named Dan (Tony Todd), Professor of Anthropology, Harry (John Billingsley), Professor of Biology, Edith (Ellen Crawford), Professor of Art History and devout Christian, Sandy, (Annika Peterson) Professor of History, in love with John Oldman, William Katt (Art Jenkins) Professor of Archaeology, Alexis Thorpe, (Linda Murphy) Art Jenkins' student, Richard Riehle, (Dr. Will Gruber-Partee) as Dr. Professor of Psychiatry, and Richard Riehle, (Dr. Will Gruber-Partee) as Dr. John Oldman's student. Will Gruber-Partee) as Dr. Professor of Psychiatry, son of John T. Partee.
It seems that John, despite being one of the most prominent teachers in his environment, is planning to leave town, so none of his colleagues can explain the reason for his departure. The questions begin to be asked and John for the first time decides to tell the truth.
It turns out that The Professor has 14 thousand years of life, he has never been able to age, he only reached the age of 35 years, from then on he does not change, his cells are able to regenerate constantly, so he remains in the same physical state, taking into account this genetic issue, John has to move every 100 years of place to avoid suspicion from society.
As he tells the story the teachers begin to feel uncomfortable, that is where I understand the meaning of the film, it is all about the human being and the structure in which we have been educated, what would happen if the Christian foundations with which the Eurocentric society was built were false, what would happen if you were Christ, the film shows us the possible consequences of this situation, what would happen if you were Christ, the film shows us the possible consequences of this situation.
The first thing that can happen is that people take you as a joker, they can also take you as crazy, to the point of going into a psychiatric hospital, the religious would no longer be your friends, everyone would give you the cold shoulder. John becomes part of the background, since he knows who he is and has nothing to hide from anyone, what was new and unexpected was the reaction of the teachers.
When the film progresses, I can understand that the film was recreated in the living room of that house, the dialogue is the only thing that keeps the interest in the film, so I could understand that the aesthetics of this film possibly generated the existence of the podcast.
All the processes of cinema, have strongly influenced everything that has to do with social networks, each aesthetic has caused pattern within television and social networks. This film, as a masterpiece of science fiction, I imagine that it had a great impact within the film system, I loved watching it, I hope that those who go through this post can enjoy it at some point in your life.
With nothing more to say, thank you very much for stopping by this post, I hope you are doing very well.

Hello fellow movie-watchers.
If you've read my past movie review posts, you know that i will pretty much watch any type of movie, and, more importantly, rarely do i read anything about what i'm about to watch.
The only thing i glance at, from time to time, (when i'm in the mood to watch a specific type of film) is the genre. I didn't even do that for this one.
DON'T LET THE OUTDATED LOOK OF THE MOVIE FOOL YOU.
In the case of "The Man From Earth", i must have heard someone mention it on a podcast or something, and i assumed it would be be something like "The Day The Earth Stood Still" (which is a great movie by the way - i watched the remake), only because of the movie title.
But boy, are these two movies different.
Although i loved the Sci-Fi in "The Day The Earth Stood Still", this one blew me away. While it's well written, very engaging and thought-provoking it blew me away, mostly because it is something i was completely not expecting to watch, nor close to anything i've ever watched. Still, not to downplay how engaging and interesting it is!
The premise is very simple and i can imagine the description of the movie possibly even sounding silly. But this movie is everything but silly.
I don't do movie reviews, telling you all about what happens; that would spoil the movie for you. Nor do i write a 30-minute long post about it. I feel the time you take to read the post is much better spent on watching the movies i post about. And that's what i do - only post about what i think are well-worth-a-watch movies.
And this one is one of them.
I will say what type of film you can expect: it's a dialogue-based movie, with very little action, and in a single location.
But don't let that turn you off. Even if you don't enjoy these types of movies, i believe this one will grip your attention.
I hope you enjoy it!
I thought it was a fantastic, enticing movie.
›A review of "Man from Earth": one of my 3 top favorite movies of all time100@aurzeq1280d
Today I would like to review a film that I discovered very recently and almost by chance, but which immediately won me over and has become if not my favorite film of all time, at least among the top three of all time.
I discovered it almost by chance, on one of the after-work outings with my friends/colleagues from university, where once in a while, instead of talking about the usual things, we decided to test ourselves and try to discuss a very interesting topic: immortality.
The discussion was based on this principle: if one day you should wake up and discover (in some unspecified way) that you are immortal, while the rest of the people (at least the ones you know) are not, what would you do? How would you live your life with this knowledge?
based on this assumption, we tried to figure out what the consequences of immortality might be, and different kinds of ideas came up, some conflicting of course. The key points that we agreed on were that immortality, especially if you are the only one with this characteristic, leads to forced loneliness, because sooner or later the people you are attached to will die in front of you, and also staying too long with the same people can cause problems, because sooner or later they will realise that something is wrong... they grow old while you don't...
Another common discourse was that of the quest for knowledge and power, divided here however on the ultimate goals... try to make the world a better place or subjugate it to your will?
the discussion went on for a long time, and at one point one of my friends asked me if I had ever seen 'Man from Earth'... I had never heard of the film, so I asked him what the plot was, but he just told me that it was closely related to our topic of conversation and to definitely watch it.
Intrigued, I came home that evening and decided to take a look at it. I did a bit of research first, and found out that it was a film with a very small budget, about 200,000 dollars, and that it was all shot in a room where the actors were talking to each other (a bit like 12 Angry Men, another film I absolutely adored and of which I will do a review in the near future).
We find ourselves at a university professor's modest chalet's living room, where it is instantly clear what is going on: he is leaving for an unspecified location without explaining it to his colleagues, who have come to greet him and inquire about it on this particular occasion. After everyone has settled in the home, Professor John Oldman—who is actually the main character—is persuaded to explain the circumstances surrounding his sudden departure. However, his interlocutors will not be pleased with his response. In fact, he asserts that he is a Man of Cromagnon, an extinct species that has somehow endured for 14,000 years to the present. You'll undoubtedly comprehend the other professors' shock.
The plot's beauty resides in the different attempts to refute John's claims as well as the revelations he makes about the history he personally experienced and the knowledge he attained across all scientific disciplines. As the sun sets and an intimate environment is established by a lit fireplace with Beethoven playing in the background, the narration gradually pulls the characters and the audience toward an increasingly compelling and believable finale.
A movie where there is only talk and no action at all can mislead a lot of people... but "Man from Earth" is the complete opposite of boring... I don't remember many movies that kept me that way attached to the screen and focused on not missing a single word of the wonderful conversations that our protagonists exchange with each other.
The wonderful thing about this film is that it manages to make an utterly absurd thesis, gradually more and more credible both among the protagonists themselves and among the spectators.
Many of the dialogues are permeated with philosophy, religion, esotericism, history, and science, and this made me love this film so much that I wanted to see it again a few days later to be able to grasp all the references and quotes fully.
The only observation (which however is absolutely not a criticism) is on the ending of the film, which I personally would have left vaguer... but I don't want to give you spoilers in any way so I won't say anything else, except to advise you to absolutely watch this masterpiece
Conclusion
Never (and I mean never) boring, it is a tremendous low-budget production that is able to captivate and arouse the interest of the viewer simply due to excellent character acting and very intelligent dialogue that, despite its absurdity and impossibility, doesn't make a crease and convinces more and more.
I recommend (although I would almost force it 😂) to watch this film and let me know what you think
