   En la busqueda constante de nuevas series para ver me topé con una de la que sinceramente no había escuchado hablar, una que era un total misterio porque claramente no está en las tendencias hoy en día o por lo menos no estuvo al momento de su estreno y fue hasta que vi que su protagonista es Jeff Bridges y un poco su sinopsis que me di cuenta que aquí podía haber algo interesante. El tema con la mayoría de las series es que una vez que las ves al poco tiempo las olvidas porque son "una más del montón", pensé que con esta sería el caso pero no fue así, siento que esta es una serie muy bien hecha y con una trama realmente buena.

   In the constant search for new series to watch I came across one that I honestly had not heard of, one that was a total mystery because it is clearly not in the trends today or at least it wasn't at the time of its premiere and it was until I saw that its protagonist is Jeff Bridges and a little bit of its synopsis that I realized that there could be something interesting here. The thing with most series is that once you watch them you soon forget them because they are "just another one of the bunch", I thought that would be the case with this one but it wasn't, I feel that this is a very well made series with a really good plot.

   Cada vez se está haciendo más costumbre que actores de gran nombre se estén embarcando en el mundo de las series, he visto como Josh Brolin, J.K. Simmons y ahora Bridges hacer trabajos que la verdad son muy buenos y que valen mucho la pena echarles un vistazo. Como lo dije anteriormente un poco en el titulo la trama de esta serie es una que está abarrotada de espionaje, drama, política pero también el factor del amor el cual al final es el motor que mueve casi todo. Además de todo esto contamos con unas notables escenas de acción que llegan para complementar la buena historia pero bueno, comencemos a hablar un poco de lo que es esta estupenda serie que me encontré por mera casualidad.

Simmons and now Bridges do work that is really very good and well worth a look. As I said earlier in the title, the plot of this series is one that is full of espionage, drama, politics but also the love factor which in the end is the engine that moves almost everything. In addition to all this we have some remarkable action scenes that come to complement the good story but well, let's start talking a little of what is this great series that I found by mere chance.

   La historia de esta serie gira alrededor de Dan Chase (Jeff Bridges) un antiguo agente de la CIA que por muchos años sirvió a dicho organismo pero que por diversas cosas escapó hace unos cuantos años. A partir de ese momento Dan ha vivido apartado, al margen de la sociedad como si fuera un fantasma, una persona que sencillamente no quiere ser encontrada. Situación que a él no le molesta ya que con los años aprendió a hacerlo además de que no está solo del todo, vive con dos perros que son inseparables y muy especiales, si llegan a ver la serie se llevarán una sorpresa con esos compañeros. Todo iba bien y sin complicaciones hasta que un día recibe una llamada que lo pone inquieto y alerta.

   The story of this series revolves around Dan Chase (Jeff Bridges) a former CIA agent who for many years served the CIA but for various reasons escaped a few years ago.    Acá es donde entra Harold Harper (John Lithgow), otro gran actor que hace vida en esta serie. La cosa es que Harold, también un ex agente, se verá involucrado en este problema, un problema que tiene muchos años de antigüedad, un operativo de campo que tenía que haberse quedado enterrado bajo tierra pero que por cosas de la vida ha vuelto a resurgir; y es que como bien dicen, del pasado no se puede huir para siempre. Aquí es donde da inicio una trama llena de investigaciones de alto nivel y persecuciones para dar con Chase y en donde él tendrá que emplear todos sus conocimientos y mañas para lograr que escapar una y otra vez y así evitar ser encontrado.

   This is where Harold Harper (John Lithgow), another great actor who plays in this series, comes in. The thing is that Harold, also a former agent, will be involved in this problem, a problem that is many years old, a field operative that should have been buried underground but for life's sake has resurfaced again; and as they say, you can not run away from the past forever.    Esta es una serie que tiene varios elementos que la hacen valiosa para ser vista. Uno de ellos es la trama llena de intriga que tiene, de principio a fin la serie nos empuja a constantes preguntas sobre lo que está pasando, quien es tal personaje, por que tanto misterio y secretismo, son cosas que a lo largo de los episodios van a estar presente y que sin dudas lo que hace es crear un ambiente en donde el espectador lo único que quiere es ver el otro capitulo para así terminar o tratar de armar el rompecabezas completo. Cuando son temas donde el espionaje, la CIA y altos personajes de la cúpula política de un país hacen acto de presencia sabemos que la trama mínimo será complicada y llena de traiciones, acá es aseguro no será la excepción.

   This is a series that has several elements that make it worth to be seen. One of them is the plot full of intrigue that has, from beginning to end the series pushes us to constant questions about what is happening, who is this character, why so much mystery and secrecy, are things that throughout the episodes will be present and that undoubtedly what it does is create an environment where the viewer just wants to see the other chapter to finish or try to assemble the complete puzzle. When espionage, CIA and high level political figures of a country make an appearance, we know that the plot will be at least complicated and full of betrayals, and this will be no exception.

   Dentro de esa trama ya de por si bastante turbia hay un segundo elemento que me llamó la atención. Constantemente nos llevan al pasado porque para entender el presente hay que conocer lo que sucedió años atrás, hay como un paralelismo, dos líneas del tiempo y historias que al final son una pero que cada una tiene sus propios fantasmas. Llevar la vida de estos dos agentes es complicado es por eso que siempre estarán los recuerdos del pasado; la cosa es que en esta serie sorpresivamente a esos fantasma, memorias o pesadillas le dieron un toque bastante oscuro y siniestro que la verdad se agradece porque no se espera para nada, ese toque extra de suspenso es algo que en una serie en donde lo que manda es la acción y el mundo político sin dudas le da un plus importante.

   Y tercero tenemos unas decentes y muy buenas escenas de acción, de combates cuerpo a cuerpo bastantes intensos y exigidos llevadas a cabo en su mayoría por Bridges. algo que es sumamente notable considerando que tiene 72 años. Creo que esto fue lo que más me impresionó, la solvencia de Jeff para interpretar un personaje que demandaba altas dosis de condición física para hacerlo. Pero al final, más allá del físico, creo que esto es lo que define a un actor, su capacidad de hacer un personaje a la altura teniendo la condición que tenga. Es interesante esto porque al momento del rodaje pude leer que Bridges estaba saliendo de un linfoma, por allá en el 2020 lo que hace más impresionante todo.

   And third we have some decent and very good action scenes, of quite intense and demanding hand-to-hand combat mostly performed by Bridges, something that is quite remarkable considering he is 72 years old. I think this was what impressed me the most, Jeff's solvency to play a character that demanded high doses of physical condition to do it. But in the end, beyond the physique, I think this is what defines an actor, his ability to play a character at the height of his condition. This is interesting because at the time of shooting I could read that Bridges was coming out of lymphoma, back in 2020, which makes it all the more impressive.

   Pero no es solo lo físico, como dije acá existe un drama importante que Jeff maneja perfectamente. Él es un personaje que siempre va cuidar a los suyos, en este caso a su hija que por las acciones de él puede que ella corra peligro, entonces esa sensación de urgencia es llevada de una forma esplendida por Bridges. La verdad disfruté mucho verlo actuar, tenía tiempo que no veía algo de él y esta serie fue perfecta para reencontrarme con un gran actor. Y también está John Lithgow que lo curioso acá es que a él se le conoce mayormente con personajes de comedia, casi todas sus películas y series van de la mano con ese genero pero aquí con este papel más sobrio y serio pude ver lo buen actor que es.

   Es uno sumamente familiar y entregado a su trabajo pero con una carga muy pesada sobre sus hombros por "errores" del pasado que ahora le están carcomiendo la cabeza. Otro en donde el drama está a la orden del día por que le tocará debatirse entre su carrera o por una persona que es de vital importancia para él. En síntesis ambos personajes son extraordinarios y generan mucho gusto verlos trabajar además de que la serie en general es buenísima. Hay otros personajes secundarios que la verdad no quisiera hablar de ellos porque quiero que sean sorpresa, sería un poco caer en spoilers ya que uno de ellos es el eje principal de esta historia.

   One who is extremely familiar and dedicated to his work but with a very heavy burden on his shoulders because of past "mistakes" that are now gnawing at his head. Another one where drama is the order of the day because he will have to debate between his career and a person who is of vital importance to him. In summary, both characters are extraordinary and it is a pleasure to watch them work and the series in general is very good. There are other secondary characters that I really don't want to talk about them because I want them to be a surprise, it would be a bit spoilerish since one of them is the main axis of this story.

   En fin, una serie que me cautivó desde el primer capitulo por la trama tan atrapante que tiene, llena de mucha intriga e interrogantes que se irán descubriendo a medida que va avanzando. Buenas interpretaciones pero porque hay excelentes actores, unas dosis de acción comedidas pero que valen la pena disfrutar con un final que nos deja pidiendo un poco más. Hasta ahora se sabe que si habrá segunda temporada y que esta puede que llegue para mediados del año que viene cosa que se agrade ya que el final es uno muy abierto. Le doy un 8.5/10 porque no esperé que me gustara tanto y al final si, me enganchó bastante. La pueden disfrutar en Hulo y Disney +, consta de 7 capítulos de una hora aproximadamente cada uno. Les dejo el tráiler para que le den un primer ojo a esta gran serie.

   In short, a series that captivated me from the first chapter for the gripping plot it has, full of intrigue and questions that will be discovered as it progresses. Good performances but because there are excellent actors, a measured dose of action but worth enjoying with an ending that leaves us asking for a little more. So far it is known that if there will be a second season and that this may come by mid next year which is appreciated because the end is a very open one. I give it an 8.5/10 because I didn't expect to like it so much and in the end yes, it hooked me quite a bit. You can enjoy it on Hulo and Disney +, it consists of 7 chapters of about an hour each.    Come di consueto oggi vi porto dentro una nuova Anteprima di un articolo che fra qualche giorno o settimana vedrete Nella Mente di un SerialFiller, il mio blog interamente incentrato sul mondo delle serie tv e di cui, da qualche mese, ho deciso di regalarvi costantemente, in anticipo su quello che pubblicherò, gran parte dei post che vedrete su www.serialfiller.org.

   Sarebbe possibile presentare una pizza fatta in casa non mangiabile o poco buona quando gli ingredienti a disposizione sono una mozzarella di bufala DOP proveniente da Battipaglia, un pomodoro San Marzano appena colto, olio EVO che più naturale esiste solo una mela appena colta da un albero in Val di Non, con un impasto già preparato dal miglior pizzaiolo di Napoli e del basilico appena colto in giardino? Dovreste, letteralmente, solo prepararla, condirla ed infornarla in un buon forno, alla giusta temperatura e per il corretto minutaggio. Facile come mangiare una pezza di torta. E' un po' quello che è capitato con The Old Man. Il regista è il nostro San Marzano, Bridges la mozzarella, Lithgow l'olio ed FX il basilico. L'intera produzione risulta impeccabile ma la pizza è buona quando rispecchia anche il gusto di chi la mangia. Non è forse vero? Una pizza buona per me, potrebbe non esserlo per voi. D'altronde c'è anche chi ama la pizza con l'ananas (ma per nostra fortuna Domino's ha chiuso i battenti). Esiste, però, l'arte della pizza cosi come esiste l'arte della recitazione, l'arte della regia, l'arte dell'intrattenimento.

   The Old Man è la classica serie che ti colpisce subito. Il primo impatto è ottimo. Il ritmo è alto, il protagonista è centratissimo, la storia lascia aperte molte domande fornendo, sin da subito, qualche risposta. La serie piace, capace, come è di trascinare lo spettatore all'interno del racconto in pochi minuti. E' un pilot esplosivo che non si ferma solo alla sua componente action. C'è dello spy drama all'orizzonte, un thriller che promette faville, un'intimità ed un dolore tutto da investigare, quello del protagonista, Dan Chase (Jeff Bridges) un fantasma con chissà quanti scheletri e segreti custoditi nell'armadio. 2 cani vigilano sul loro padrone e su una storia che ha molto da raccontare. La pizza è sfornata. Profuma. L'acquolina in bocca inonda il palato. Il primo spicchio è buonissimo. Viene voglia di passare subito al prossimo. Sono 7 i triangoli di pizza che compongono la pizza stessa. 7 episodi che hanno il compito di nutrire la nostra fame e farci passare la serata con l'ansia positiva di chi adora i thriller e vuole, al tempo stesso, non arrovellarsi troppo su complesse trame. The Old Man lascia presagire che tutto questo vi sarà offerto. La storia, però, si fa via via più fumosa. Dan Chase non perde un millimetro del suo carisma. Tutto fila liscio eppure qualcosa inizia ad affaticare lo stomaco e a far perdere, pian piano, l'appetito del primo boccone. Qualcosa si inceppa, senza fermare il motore. Il ritmo, sempre molto alto, cala. Il mistero, infittendosi, si complica. I personaggi, evolvendo, perdono quel fascino iniziale.

   FX strikes again, in a year of grace for American cable TV, which, in this 2022, has churned out hits like The Bear (full review here), marked the resounding return of Atlanta (review of a single and beautiful episode of the third season here), the return of What We Do In The Shadows, and other interesting titles, which will be joined by other TV series coming in the next few weeks. The title I want to tell you about today (and very well) is The Old Man, a TV series directed by a '90s piece of contemporary Hollywood, that Jon Watts who signed on to direct the 3 Spider Man films recently merged into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There was so much anticipation to see him behind the camera in a TV series, anticipation amplified by the fact that he was called upon to direct 2 other giants of the film (Jeff Bridges) and serial (John Lithgow) scene. Will this pairing of actors, directed by such an acclaimed director, have given birth to a mountain or a mouse?

   Would it be possible to present a homemade pizza that is inedible or not very good when the ingredients at hand are a DOP buffalo mozzarella from Battipaglia, a freshly picked San Marzano tomato, EVO oil that more natural there is only an apple freshly picked from a tree in Val di Non, with dough already prepared by the best pizzaiolo in Naples and basil freshly picked from the garden? You would, literally, just have to prepare it, season it and bake it in a good oven, at the right temperature and for the right minute. As easy as eating a piece of cake. That's kind of what happened with The Old Man. The director is our San Marzano, Bridges the mozzarella, Lithgow the oil and FX the basil. The whole production turns out flawlessly, but pizza is good when it also reflects the taste of those who eat it. Isn't that true? A good pizza for me, may not be good for you. Then again, there are also those who like pineapple pizza (but fortunately for us, Domino's has closed its doors). There is, however, the art of pizza just as there is the art of acting, the art of directing, the art of entertainment. Jon Watts proved to dominate such an explosive series technically and directionally. Jeff Bridges to be an absolute dominator. Lithgow to be an excellent sidekick. The pizza, therefore, turned out well. Very good and beautiful to look at. But will everyone have liked it?

   The Old Man is the classic series that hits you right away. The first impact is great. The pace is high, the main character is centered, the story leaves many questions open by providing, from the very beginning, some answers. The series pleases, capable as it is of pulling the viewer into the story within minutes. It is an explosive pilot that does not stop at its action component alone. There is spy drama on the horizon, a thriller that promises sparks, an intimacy and a pain all to be investigated, that of the protagonist, Dan Chase (Jeff Bridges) a ghost with who knows how many skeletons and secrets kept in the closet. 2 dogs watch over their master and a story that has much to tell. The pizza is baked. It smells. Mouth watering floods the palate. The first slice is delicious. It makes you want to move on to the next one right away. There are 7 pizza triangles that make up the pizza itself. 7 episodes that have the task of feeding our hunger and making us spend the evening with the positive anxiety of those who adore thrillers and want, at the same time, not to get too hung up on complex plots. The Old Man suggests that all this will be offered to you. The story, however, gradually becomes more and more steamy. Dan Chase does not lose an inch of his charisma. Everything runs smoothly and yet something begins to strain the stomach and make you lose, slowly, your appetite for the first bite. Something jams, without stopping the engine. The pace, always very high, drops. The mystery, thickening, becomes more complicated. The characters, evolving, lose that initial charm.

   The Old Man is a very good, almost excellent series that, however, suffers a decline in the final part. The first episodes had made people cry out for a miracle. A series that seemed to be able to run at breakneck speed without despising the slow pace of dialogues that were always very intimate, very interesting, especially those between Dan and the character played by Amy Brennaman (Shining Girls, The Leftovers) and the one played by John Lithgow (Dexter, The Crown). Then, the slowdown and a loss of the charm that the series seemed to have, just like its protagonist. It could have been a 9 series; it will have to settle for a solid 7.5 and all the usual ratings to which I will leave you before saying goodbye.

   When I started watching the series I didn't know anything about it, I chose it because of its actors who, despite being over 60 years old, you would think it would be a series about grandparents or something similar, but nothing could be further from the truth.    This is a series that uses flashbacks a lot, to get to know its characters and the story behind their lives. A series that grows in each chapter and that had several directors led by Jon Watts, the same director of the Spiderman blockbusters, who masterfully directs the first two chapters. The Old Man, focuses on what Dan Chase (Jeff) lived in the past, that after the death of his Alzheimer's wife, his life becomes routine until an apparently unfortunate event makes him react and suspect that something is happening, here it begins a series of events that will make Dan flee and the pursuit of the FBI to capture him.

   Esta es una serie que maneja mucho los flashbacks, para conocer a sus personajes y la historia detrás de sus vidas. Una serie que va creciendo en cada capítulo y que contó con varios directores encabezados por Jon Watts, el mismo director de las superproducciones Spiderman, quién dirige los dos primeros capítulos de manera magistral. The Old Man, se centra en lo que vivió en el pasado de Dan Chase (Jeff), que luego de morir su esposa Alzheimer, su vida se vuelve rutinaria hasta que un hecho aparentemente infortunado lo hace reaccionar y sospechar que algo pasa, acá comienza una serie de hechos que harán que Dan huya y la persecución del FBI para capturarlo.

   During his escape he meets a woman, Zoe (Amy), with whom he will establish a friendship. She is unaware of Dan's situation, but unbeknownst to her she will find herself involved in something she has no idea about. Harold Harper (John), a high-ranking FBI official, will help him escape from him, but he is also in charge of capturing and eliminating him. We will not only see in this series fight scenes, persecution, but also complicated human situations and relationships that will be revealed in each chapter we see, leaving us crumbs to solve the intricate and complex framework that tells us why after 30 years, Dan (Jeff), he's so hotly wanted by the authorities.

Harold Harper (John), un alto funcionario del FBI, lo ayudará en su huida, pero también es el encargado de capturarlo y eliminarlo. No solo veremos en esta serie escenas de lucha, persecución, sino también de situaciones humanas complicadas y relaciones que se irán develando en cada capítulo que vemos, dejándonos migajas para resolver el intricado y complejo entramado que nos diga por qué después de 30 años, Dan (Jeff), es buscado tan arduamente por las autoridades.

   One of the things that I loved about this series is the constant plot twists that surprise you and how the characters develop. Something that is sometimes lost for this type of series, it is an action thriller, a drama that is well cared for in the details and created that there is the hook to capture the viewer, who in each chapter tries to guess what will happen to the characters. I must say that it is one of the best series in this genre in a long time and I hope that its second season is as good as its debut. I recommend it if you like espionage, action and drama thrillers.

   Una de las cosas que me encantaron de esta serie son los constantes giros en su trama que te sorprenden y como se van desarrollando los personajes. Algo que para este tipo de series a veces se pierden, es un thriller de acción, drama bien cuidado en los detalles y creó que allí está el gancho para capturar al espectador, que en cada capítulo trata de adivinar lo que ocurrirá con los personajes. Debo decir que es de las mejores series en este género en mucho tiempo y espero que en su segunda temporada sea tan buena como su debut. Te la recomiendo si te gusta el thriller de espionaje, acción y drama.
