  1. The Orville - Love it or hate it / Man lieb es oder haßt es@beatminister2312d

    English:

It's not easy to find a start when speaking about the TV series "The Orville", that is in it's 3rd season by now. I'm sure there will be a lot of Star Trek fans, who deeply hate this series. Because its such a obvious copy of Star Trek -The Next Generation, in almost every detail. Only, nothing is taken seriously in this series. And then, there will be a lot of Star Trek fans, who love the series just because of the same reasons. Because every thing is so well copied from Star Trek, only the crew is really weird. And I don't mean weird as in the real Star Trek series, but really freaky weird.

This being said, The Orville is not a cheap spoof series, its production is executed in the quality of good modern TV productions. Which makes it a little confusing at time, at least for me. In big parts it looks more like Star Trek than the recent real Star Trek series, for example Discovery, or the latest movies. Until there is another humor outburst, that is.

And the humor in The Orville is another thing one could love or hate. From fart jokes, to normal sitcom humor, to really dark freaky humor, its a wild mix of all of those. However, this is less surprising, if you know that the creator, executive producer and main character of The Orville is Seth MacFarlane, who created the animation series "American Dad", "Family Guy" and "The Cleveland Show".

To confuse the audience even further, there are a number of well know faces in "The Orville". There is, for example, Penny Johnson Jerald as the ship's doctor. She already appeared in the real Star Trek series "Deep Space 9", as well as in "24", and Brian George who also was in DS9 as Dr Bashir's father - and in The Big Bang Theory as Raj's father.

Summary: if you are not a militant Star Trek fan, check this series out - for example on Amazon Prime Video for free as a member. And another tip: don't give up on the first episode. They first had to find their way into the series, it seems.

    Deutsch:

  2. 🎬 Must See TV Shows - #18 - The Orville@bachone3090d

Can you mix Family Guy with Ted, and make it in a Star Trek Universe??? Hell yes you can!

Dear Steemians, for Part 18 I have today chosen a show that combines the best of 2 worlds, comedy and adventure!

The show I can recommend watching today is: THE ORVILLE img source

Episode runtime: 45 minuts pr episode Seasons: 1 season Status: Has been renewed for 2nd season Show started: 2017 Genrer: Adventure, Comedy, Sci-Fi Stars: Seth MacFarlane Show Creator: Seth MacFarlane Availability: Can be streamed on Netflix. Imdb/Rotten tomatoes: 7.9 & 20% / 93%

The critics really really hates this, then its a good thing that the audience loves it, critics go look for another job!

I must admit I was pretty sceptical about The Orville, as I at the time had never seen any star-trek series this almost didnt make my watch list. But with a little pressure from my brother I decided to give it a go, and I deffinently dont regret it. This show is really laugh out loud funny, I think I woke up my wife a time or two while watching this while she sleeps.

The Orville is a very humerous show with good adventures in it, my personal favourite is the social voting episode, that really blew my mind and thought that actually could be the future! If you have seen the Orville, you know which episode it is.

Seth MacFarlane who is both the creator and has the main role in The Orville does this spectaculary! I have never seen him perform as an actor before, and I have only seen his "voice characters" in family guy, american dad and ofcourse Ted. This guy is simply brilliant when it comes to dark humor, both in writing and also in live action with expressions, the other cast in this show is very well fit for it, and made me see it on release every week.

The Orville takes place in space, where Captain Mercer gains control of his very first ship, however the crew he has for this is highly unusualm and they go on very strange adventures together.

For TV-Shows it is quite alright to check out the trailer, depending on the age of the trailer, as you can easily get fooled and finding a quick recap of the first season of the show, and that would kinda suck. So when watching trailers for tv-shows, be sure it is one of the first trailers that came out, to ensure there are not too many spoilers, but still informfull enough to give you an idea about the show

I hope you enjoyed reading this, and will consider watching this tv-show, as this is deffinently one of the better tv-shows out there.

If this is the first time you are reading, you can see my other TV-show recommendations here:

ASH VS EVIL DEAD, DIRK GENTLY'S HOLISTIC DETECTIVE AGENCY, STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, 11.22.63, LETHAL WEAPON, JEAN-CLAUDE VAN JOHNSON, LUCIFER, TRAVELERS, WAREHOUSE13, SHOOTER, OZARK, STRANGER THINGS, THE LAST SHIP, TIMELESS, DESIGNATED SURVIVOR, PREACHER, AMERICAN HORROR STORY

In the reviews that I make, I try not to give out too much information, and keep the spoilers away, there is nothing fun about watching something and knowing everything in advance, not quite the same as watching it fresh.

Feel free to follow for more tv-series recommendations, as there are plenty more on the way.

  3. The Orville Season 1 Review@moon32walker3127d

    orville.jpg

Are you one of those people who like Star Trek and The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy and you want something new, then The Orville might be your type of show. Season 1 has just ended and I can finally give some thoughts about the show. The Orville is a mix between space exploration and comedy, and the show is created by Seth MacFarlane who I imagine everyone knows by now for his Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show cartoons, and the voice he gave in the movie Ted. This is his new trip into the unknown and his first real acting gig, he plays a captain Ed Mercer given a command of his own space ship and crew. While the show did start kinda wonky before actors and the story established themselves, very soon it showed huge potential for the future seasons.

    orvill1.jpg

There are so many crazy characters in Orville, and just to name few there is a gelatinous alien Yaphit who is voiced by the great Norm MacDonald, a strange humanoid alien cmdr. Bortus who lays eggs and so many more, you will be surprised and amused by its crazy characters. There are so many great guest stars like Charlize Theron and Rob Love who will stop by in certain episodes, it is always good to have some real star power. There are also a lot of dramatic moments in the show, after all this is about space exploration and they have some consequences and give us the viewers a continuous story for it's growing characters. It is a first season so don't be too harsh when watching this show. The Orville at time feels like more of a Star Trek show than the real new Star Trek and I think it has a great future ahead 8.6/10.

  4. Newslink: Review: Jonathan Frakes Delivers Fun And Familiar Sci-Fi In Fifth Episode Of ‘The Orville’@fubar1653189d

In “Pria”, the crew of The Orville receive a distress call from a mining vessel that is stuck on a comet caught in the orbit of a star. After Ed Mercer and his crew save the captain of the mining vessel, a woman named Pria (guest star Charlize Theron), they welcome her on board with open arms. The welcome is a little too open for first officer Kelly Grayson, who soon begins to question Pria’s intentions.

  5. 🎬Watching novelties: The Orville and Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams@weeklystats3205d

    The Orville

    ______

Cast Seth MacFarlane, Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon.

Plot: 2417 year. Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane) offered to become the captain of the ship " The Orville". He has a motley team. They plow the expanses of the Universe and fall into various amusing situations. These series supposed to be a parody of "Star Trek" and other fantastic TV series and films. Available episodes: 2/12.

My opinion: If we look into the biography of Seth McFarlane, we'll see that he is the creator (scriptwriter, director, artist, etc.) of Family Guy. Therefore, I expected bursting jokes from the very first seconds of the series, but there is no any funny joke. I watched 2 episodes and laughed maybe a couple of times. However, it does not prevent me to enjoy the series, in which a lot of money is swelled up. The picture is amazing, the episodes are very easy to perceive. The most important thing is to relax the brain by watching The Orville. Perhaps there are many funny moments, but only the fans of the series "Star Trek" will understand them. Unfortunately, I'm not that kind.

    Trailer

    ______ ###

    Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams

_____ [Image source](http://www.kinomania.ru/article/56345) Cast: Holliday Grainger, Steve Buscemi, Richard Madden, Jack Reynor, Timothy Spall, Bryan Cranston, Essie Davis

Plot: Each episode will have a new story, inspired by the stories of Philip K. Dick. The first episode is based on the story "The Hood Maker", but people write in the comments that the similarity (of the story and the series) is very different. Agent Ross (Richard Madden - Robb Stark from the Game of Thrones) is one of the best detectives. He lives in a world reminiscent of the thirties, but in fact, it is modern world. A few dozen years ago the meteor shower put all the equipment out of action. At the same time, many children with the gift of telepathy were born on Earth. They are opposed by ordinary people. Telepaths are forced to live in the ghetto. One of them - Honor (Holliday Grainger) helps Ross to find The Hood Maker. Available episodes: 1/10

Opinion: I really liked the atmosphere of the first episode! This dirty green color of the picture, I would like to see "A Man in a High Castle" in that way. I like the world that was presented to us, I want to see the entire series and do not wait every week for a new episode. The ending and the discharge of history were tense into vanilla love and phrases like "You lied to me / No, I did not lie to you." The finale seemed blurry and incomprehensible because of this, but I hope the creators will return again to the first series to complete this line.
