Staying home and catching up on all those movies that are currently in theaters is a great plan, since many of these films are new releases while others continue a series—and in the end, they all serve as a way to stay in the loop. Plus, it’s a chance to see the work of new directors who are committed to keeping the genre alive. That’s why The Punisher: One Last Kill was recently released, and many were talking about this movie simply because it’s part of the Marvel franchise. Despite having a different style, it presents an interesting, challenging story with a touch of action, precisely because it’s about a man who is already completely broken.

Quedarse en casa y terminar de todas esas películas que están en estreno es un gran plan, ya que muchas de esas producciones son nuevas como otras para continuar una secuencia que a la final todas sirven para entrenar, además ver el trabajo de nuevos directores que están apostando en mantener ese género activo. Por eso hace poco se estrenó The Punisher: One Last Kill y muchos comentaban de esta película por el mismo hecho de ser de la franquicia de Marvel, a pesar de contar con un estilo diferente nos presenta una historia interesante, desafiante y a la vez con ese toque de acción, por el mismo hecho de ser un hombre que ya está completamente roto.

What’s great about this movie—and what sets it apart from the rest—is that it blends a crime thriller with a superhero story, and this is where the film really shines, as the tension, the tough decisions, and the silences give it that intriguing twist. Another standout aspect is the action sequences, which feel realistic and free of the exaggerations seen in recent Marvel films. Instead, everything fits together seamlessly, keeping us hooked, and this is where we find ourselves wondering: Can he erase the past? Will he live a peaceful life?

The characters in this film aim to create something different and unique, and that’s where actor Jon Bernthal carries one of the biggest responsibilities of the entire installment—he doesn’t need to adopt other personas, since with a single word he conveys more than many Marvel protagonists do in entire films, which would make him perfect for other projects in the franchise. Furthermore, in this film, Frank isn’t just out to cause harm; he’s also portraying himself as a broken man who keeps fighting because he doesn’t know how to live any other way.

Lo bueno de esta película y la hace un poco diferente a las demás es que combina thriller criminal con superhéroes y es aquí donde la película se lleva su mayor punto fuerte, ya qué hay tensión, decisiones y silencios que le da ese giro interesante a la película. Otras de las cosas que se destaca es ese trabajo en la acción, ya que se siente real y nada de exageraciones como en las últimas películas de Marvel. Más bien todo encaja y nos lleva a seguir viendo y es aquí donde nos preguntamos ¿Podrá borrar el pasado? ¿Vivirá una vida tranquila?

Los personajes esta película apuestan en crear algo distinto y ser único y es allí donde el actor Jon Bernthal cuenta con una de las responsabilidades más grande de toda esta entrega y no necesita tomar otras personalidades, ya que con una palabra transmite más que muchos protagonistas de Marvel en películas enteras, la cual sería perfecto verlos en otros proyectos de la franquicia. Además, en esta película Frank no solo busca causar daño, sino mostrarse como una persona destruida que sigue peleando porque no sabe vivir de otra manera.

The film has a solid storyline without too much filler, but just as things start to come together, it falls back on the same old Marvel formula of milking the characters for all they’re worth. And while this new story has its jokes and action sequences, Frank Castle works best when he shows his human side—demonstrating that he wants to be special and that, despite all his flaws, he has so much more to give and offer in this cinematic universe.

La película cuenta con una buena secuencia, sin tanto relleno, pero cuando todo comienza a ir bien se repite la misma historia de Marvel usando los personajes hasta el límite y aunque esta nueva historia tiene sus chistes, sus combates Frank Castle funciona mejor cuando muestra su lado humano mostrando que quiere ser especial y con todos sus defectos tiene mucho más para dar y ofrecer en este mundo de películas.

The Punisher es de esos personajes que creo que Marvel no ha logrado darle la continuidad que merece. Hace como 7 años sacaron una serie en Netflix hecha casi en su totalidad por Jon Bernthal la cual para mi fue increíble pero que decidieron cancelar. Con el estreno de Daredevil introdujeron al personaje un poco en la trama pero sin mucho peso y ahora la gente de Disney y de la mano del mismo Bernthal nos traen este especial de menos de una hora en donde convivimos con un Frank Castle abatido mentalmente por la conocida perdida de su familia y por la duda que crece en él de si vale la pena seguir con lo que ha estado haciendo, su rol de vigilante vengador.

The Punisher is one of those characters that I think Marvel hasn't given the continuity he deserves. About seven years ago, they released a Netflix series, almost entirely created by Jon Bernthal, which I thought was incredible, but they decided to cancel it. With the premiere of Daredevil, they introduced the character a little into the plot, but without much impact. Now, Disney, along with Bernthal himself, brings us this special of less than an hour, where we see a Frank Castle mentally broken by the well-known loss of his family and by the growing doubt within him about whether it's worth continuing what he's been doing, his role as a vengeful vigilante.

Creo, solo es una suposición, que este especial se ubica con el final de aquella serie del 2019 y la epoca cuando aparece en Daredevil (aún no se sabe si saldrá en Doomsday). Como les decía en este especial tenemos a Frank teniendo una crisis existencial después de haber eliminado a toda una familia perteneciente a la mafia italiana en Nueva York y relacionada con la muerte de su propia familia. Se sabe que Castle siempre ha sido un hombre atormentado por la muerte de su esposa e hijos, él nunca fue el mismo y es raíz de eso que nace "The Punisher". Con su vida sin un rumbo aparente y Nueva York hundida en la miseria en manos de criminales de todo tipo por la cabeza de Frank pasa la idea de no vivir más y es que la venganza parece no satisfacerle.

I believe—this is just a guess—that this special takes place after the end of that 2019 series and during his appearance in Daredevil (it's still unknown if he'll appear in Doomsday). As I was saying, in this special, we see Frank having an existential crisis after eliminating an entire Italian mafia family in New York, a family connected to the death of his own. It's known that Castle has always been tormented by the death of his wife and children; he was never the same, and it's from this that "The Punisher" is born. With his life seemingly aimless and New York mired in misery at the hands of all kinds of criminals, the idea of ending his life crosses Frank's mind, as revenge no longer seems to satisfy him.

Todo cambia cuando de la nada aparece Ma Gnucci, una de las archienemigas de The Punisher, simplemente a informarle que todos los criminales estarán detrás de él en retaliación por la muerte de su familia en manos de Castle. Obviamente el factor supervivencia se activa en él y veremos como uno a uno va aniquilando a los que se le crucen en su camino. Basicamente esto es el especial, una pequeña muestra violenta y sangrienta de lo que puede hacer The Punisher. La verdad es que para los que somos fanáticos del personaje que le dedicaran algo ya son buenas noticias, es verdad que si hubiese sido más tiempo hubiera sido una película prácticamente, la idea de hacerlo tipo "especial" no es para nada mala. Como comentaba esto no llega a los 50 minutos pero la intensidad está garantizada.

Everything changes when Ma Gnucci, one of The Punisher's arch-enemies, appears out of nowhere to inform him that all criminals will be after him in retaliation for the death of her family at Castle's hands. Obviously, his survival instinct kicks in, and we see him annihilate anyone who crosses his path, one by one. Basically, this is the special, a small, violent, and bloody sample of what The Punisher is capable of. The truth is, for those of us who are fans of the character, the fact that they dedicated something to him is already good news. It's true that if it had been longer, it would have been practically a movie, but the idea of doing it as a "special" isn't bad at all. As I mentioned, it doesn't even reach 50 minutes, but the intensity is guaranteed.

La naturaleza de Frank es violenta por lo que todo lo que veremos serán golpes, disparos, huesos rotos, sangre, caídas y claro está, esa sensación de venganza que viene dada por un par de cosas que pasan en la corta trama. Bernthal como actor de acción es top, no creo que haya alguien más al que le quede este personaje como a él, se mimetiza mucho haciéndolo ver muy real (también porque es un buen actor). La mayoría de las escenas son hechas por él pero hay otra que no y es acá en donde la mayor critica a este especial y sobretodo a Marvel que ya es conocido por hacer estas burradas. El CGI. Hay una escena en donde Castle cae y se le ve cayendo obviamente y aterrizar, pues el CGI que usaron es tan malo para tapar la cara del doble que terminó pareciendo una caricatura de mal gusto.

Frank's nature is violent, so all we'll see are punches, gunshots, broken bones, blood, falls, and of course, that sense of revenge stemming from a couple of things that happen in the short plot. Bernthal is a top-notch action actor; I don't think anyone else could pull off this character as well as he does. He blends in so well, making it look incredibly real (also because he's a good actor). He does most of the stunts himself, but there's one he doesn't, and this is where the biggest criticism of this special, and especially of Marvel, which is already known for making these kinds of blunders, comes in. The CGI. There's a scene where Castle falls, and you can obviously see him falling and landing, but the CGI they used to cover the stunt double's face is so bad that it ended up looking like a tasteless caricature.

Que a ver, eres Marvel, no puedes hacer ese desastre de animación. Lamentablemente estamos acostumbrado a que esta gente haga estas cosas por lo que sorpresivo no fue. Esto no opaca lo entretenido y vistoso que termina siendo todo, los casi 50 minutos se pasan muy rápido. Le doy un 8/10, vale la pena verlo tanto por la actuación de Bernthal como por la increíble acción que hay. Está disponible en Disney+. Si son fanáticos de Marvel, de MCU y del personaje, se los recomiendo mucho. Les dejo el tráiler por acá abajo.

Look, you're Marvel, you can't make such a mess of the animation. Unfortunately, we're used to this kind of thing from them, so it wasn't exactly a surprise. That said, it doesn't detract from how entertaining and visually stunning the whole thing is; the almost 50 minutes fly by. I give it an 8/10. It's worth watching for both Bernthal's performance and the incredible action. It's available on Disney+. If you're a fan of Marvel, the MCU, and the character, I highly recommend it. I recently got a chance to watch the special episode The Punisher: One Last Kill. Disney has finally decided to dedicate some content to this character after the two seasons he had on Netflix. This special acts as a bridge between the two universes, providing continuity to Frank Castle's story since we will be seeing him in several upcoming productions

Recientemente pude ver el episodio especial de "The Punisher: One Last Kill". Finalmente Disney decide dedicar a este personaje algo de contenido, tras las dos temporadas que tuvo en Netflix. Este episodio especial es literalmente un puente entre los dos universo, para darle continuidad a la historia de Frank Castle ya que este personaje le veremos presente en varias de sus próximas producciones.

In this special episode, we see Frank tormented by the past. The loss of his family still hurts him, causing him to hallucinate and preventing him from living a normal life. His actions in eliminating members of the Gnucci family have brought severe consequences to that part of the city; people are being harassed by thugs, and there is no one to stop them.

En este episodio especial vemos a Frank atormentado por el pasado, la perdida de su familia aún le hace daño, le hace alucinar y le impide llevar una vida normal. Sus acciones al eliminar a los miembros de la familia Gnucci, han traído severas consecuencias en esa parte de la ciudad, las personas están siendo acosadas por los maleantes, no hay quien los detenga.

Deep in his sorrow, it seems like nothing will pull him out of that world of pain. However, an encounter with Ma Gnucci brings him back to who he was, when she informs him that she has put a bounty on his head to avenge her son's murder. This unleashes violence in his community as everyone goes after him, and innocent people get caught in the crossfire, until he decides to take action. He breaks his promise not to fight again—first to defend himself, and then to clean up the mess on the streets.

Sumido en su pesar, parece que nada lo apartará de ese mundo de dolor, pero un encuentro con Ma Gnucci le hace volver a ser quien fue, cuándo ella le comunica que le puso precio a su cabeza, en venganza por haber asesinado a su hijo. Esto desata la violencia en su comunidad, todos van tras el, los inocentes se ven afectados, hasta que decide actuar rompiendo su promesa de no volver a pelear, primero para defenderse, luego para limpiar el desastre de las calles.

This episode runs for 50 minutes. There is a warning at the beginning that this is mature content, so do not assume that just because it is on Disney, it is suitable for the whole family. The violence is quite explicit and abundant. The action choreography is top-notch, and there is very little CGI—thankfully, because it is pretty bad—but that does not really hurt the production overall.

Este episodio tiene una duración de 50 minutos. En un comienzo se da la advertencia que es un contenido exclusivo para adultos, asi que no por estar en Disney se debe creer que se puede ver en familia. La violencia es bastante explícita y abundante, las coreografía de acción son muy buenas, el cgi es poco, menos mal porque es bastante malo, pero nada que perjudique la producción en general.

For Marvel fans, this content is worth checking out. It turns out this short episode is canon, serving as a preamble in the MCU for the new Spider-Man movie coming out this year, as well as the Doomsday film. So, if you want the full picture of everything that is coming up, this short is definitely worth a watch.

Para los fanáticos de Marvel es contenido que vale la pena, resulta que este corto episodio es canon y en el MCU es preámbulo para la nueva película de Spiderman que se estrenará este año, así como también la de Doomsday, por lo tanto para tener un panorama completo de todo lo que está por venir, vale la pena ver este corto.
