  1. The Gifted Season 2 – Episode 16 Season and Show Finale Spoiler Free Review@readingdanvers2590d

I knew from the moment that Disney acquired Fox that this show will be cancelled. It was inevitable. The mutants are leaving the Underground and going to the MCU. I have a feeling that the showrunners also new this as this episode brings closer to our story.

Sure, it leaves an opening for another season, but it also feels like you don't really need it. We already know how it is going to go and what will happen. It doesn't feel like a cliffhanger to me.

I am happy with where all of the characters ended up. Mostly. I still find Jace and Kate to be so boring and forced. But Eclipse, Polaris, Reed, Lauren and Andy all got a pretty good and satisfying ending. Even Thunderbird got his closure.

Mutant problems are never over. They just evolve and change. This show showed us that. And also how blind hate leads to nothing. Even if it is fuelled by grief, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I am not sure I will miss these characters. This show wasn't that good, but it had its own special unique terrible CGI thing going on.

    This episode gets a 8/10

    The show is a 7.5/10

  2. The Gifted Season 2 – Episode 15 Spoiler Free Review@readingdanvers2628d

    The gifted poster.jpg

Well this episode was great. I guess I am more into emotional plots rather than action, because this episode was pretty great in my opinion.

The Strucker family arc really got to me. Lauren, Reed and Andy all had difficult choices to make. To face their powers, to face their inner demons and who are they afraid to be. The episode did a great job moving their arc forward. Except Kate. She still feels like the mom with no arc. From protective mom to badass mom to self-scarifying mom, she's just a poorly written character in my opinion. Good thing the rest of her family is not.

Polaris also had some tough choices to make and she did them wonderfully. Her bond with the Frost sister and with Andy really paid off in this episode.

Eclipse got to use the cooler side of his powers, but he didn't have much to do in this episode.

Reeva's plan turned out to be more brilliant than I thought. That woman leaves nothing to chance. With each passing episode her bigger plan is revealed and it is brilliant. She has a plan to match her ambitions.

Jace is pathetic as ever. I really hope that they kill off his character.

This episode gave me the feels. It really did. It had what I was looking for in a really long time.

    I give it 8.5/10

  3. The Gifted Season 2 – Episode 14 Spoiler Free Review@readingdanvers2633d

    The gifted poster.jpg

Well, I thought that the episode should have great, but it just ok. Sure, the stakes are higher, but not for most of the characters I care about. I just don't know the Morlocks enough to care about what happens to them. Or about the concept of their society. We got to know them a little, but I just don't feel invested in them like I do in the Mutant Underground.

The back story of the Inner Circle and the Purifiers was interesting, but I just don't see where exactly it is leading. Or if the bigger picture makes sense. I was almost starting to have more appreciation for Reeva, but now I kind of lost it again. Not for her planning abilities, these are great, but her judgment.

Lauren and Reed made some interesting choices during this episode and it will be interesting to see where it will take them. Kate is still boring. I don't care if she is the only human in the Underground, she is just an awfully written and acted character.

Also, Polaris can't stay in the same position for long. It just isn't going to last.

Jace has become a pathetic character. A pawn in the big game. I just don't care for him and I hope he will be killed off soon.

So the episode wasn't bad. It just wasn't good enough in my opinion. I feel like it was made to contribute to the bigger picture. But I just don't see it. Yet.

    I give it 7/10

  4. The Gifted Season 2 – Episode 13 Spoiler Free Review@readingdanvers2678d

    The gifted poster.jpg

The plot just keeps getting more and more interesting.

Lauren and Andy's bond seems fascinating. How interlinked are they? How does it work? What will happen? For how long Reed and Lauren can resist the temptation of great power that runs in their family? How can the past influence the future? Andy is just boring. He is a pawn that is easily manipulated by the Frost triplets. But Lauren and Reed are interesting.

This is one of the few episodes in which Kate doesn't annoy me. I mean I hate her character mostly because she is a cliché mom and nothing but a mother. She is usually portrayed as having zero personality, past, interests, anything other than being a protective mother. In this episode she was a brave and very capable nurse.

Blink and Polaris are shaping out to be stronger and smarter than all of the men surrounding them. Still, I wonder what will happen to Polaris and Marcus after this episode.

I am super curious and can't wait to find out what happens next.

    I give it 8.5/10

  5. The Gifted Season 2 – Episode 12 Spoiler Free Review@readingdanvers2681d

This was a great episode. Really. Where was this all season long? The plot thickens doesn't even cover it. The underground is facing worse odds than ever, as the inner circle only grows in strength.

We learn more about Blink's tragic childhood and upbringing. These memories influence her decisions now. Decisions that are really brave in the face of the fact that John can't seem to let go of the flight no matter the odds. Even when he himself is still not well yet.

Lauren and Andy's relationship and the Fenris connection are really interesting. Along with their influence and connection to Reed. Kate is still probably my least favorite character on the show. She is just written like a total cliché. Andy is also only semi-interesting. It's Lauren who seems like one of the most interesting characters in the show.

Polaris is now just a small player in the big game. I don't like her in this role. She should be a leader, no matter where she is. Still, I can't see her lasting long in her current situation.

I don't like Reeva, but her plan seems to be smarter than I gave her credit for. I also wonder if the Frost triplet might split-up at this rate, as disagreements are plenty as this point.

I am really interested in seeing where the show will go next.

    I give it 8.5/10

  6. The Gifted Season 2 – Episode 10 Spoiler Free Review@readingdanvers2702d

    The gifted poster.jpg

Best episode of the season and probably the show by far. Not because the action was amazing, but because the script is actually good – meaning the plot is great in this episode and also promises more great episodes. So many new mysteries that would have been great even if the show was not about mutants. I don't want to give anything away, but the ending of the episode left me with my mouth hanging open, so many twists and turns and back stabbings. This makes me feel sad that the show will probably not be renewed because of the Fox acquisition by Disney.

Also, now I found a character that I dislike more than Kate Strucker, the eternally worried mother, Jace Turner. How many turns from good guy to bad guy can a character take? Come on. It doesn't last too long no matter what, so I am not betting on him to stay in the same set of mind for long.

My favorite character by far was Blink. Talk about adapting. She is with the Underground even though she is not 100% in agreement with them, and her position with the Morlocks (am I the only one who thinks about H. G. Wells' The Time Machine every time I hear that name) is also special. She fits in wherever she goes. Her personality is also unique, a special sense of humor that the show is lacking.

Polaris is really annoying as well. What did she think was going to happen when she joined the Inner Circle? Like really? Butterflies, cakes and awesome fights? Technically nothing has changed, just her mind set that changes every other day.

Whatever game Reeva is playing at, I am loving it. I didn't like the character or her plans, but now, in one minute she became super interesting and intelligent. Her plan is bigger and more sophisticated than the one I gave her credit for.

Still, I feel that mystery surrounding the Von Strucker family is the one that is going to move the plot forward. Look at what has become of Lauren – I can barely recognize her personality at this point. We can say the same thing for Andy as well.

It was a great episode which builds anticipation for what is to come.

    I give it 8.5/10

  7. The Gifted Season 2 – Episode 10 Spoiler Free Review@readingdanvers2710d

    The gifted poster.jpg

Ok, I liked this episode. Mainly because the action was really good. I love good mutant action that doesn't seem like it suffers from a low budget. Also, it was fun seeing all of the group together, even if it is just temporary. Mutants working together is fun to watch and not all of them fighting each other.

When it comes to characters I actually liked Andy in this episode. It's so easy to fall into your old self, until you remember why you decided to change. Also I liked the hints between him and Lauren. Only now did I realize that they started looking more similar to each other. Although maybe they shouldn't put so much lipstick on Andy. I get it that all men wear camera on tv, but his was a bit too much.

I liked Lauren in this episode. She's very sure of herself and her way and that's admirable. Kate was annoying in my eyes as ever. I get it that she loves her son, but come on, she needs to face the fact that she lost him.

Jace at last let his inside show on the outside. I knew that this was him, but it was interesting to see this manifestation.

Thunderbird surprised me. I just expected more out of him.

Eclipse and Polaris were fun to watch. I am starting to like her new look.

Also, it makes no sense for Reeva or the triplet to not intervene with the plan of the episode.

It was a good episode. It just doesn't immediately makes me want to watch the next one. It leaves the door open to interesting directions, but not interesting enough.

    I give it 7/10

  8. The Gifted Season 2 – Episode 9 Spoiler Free Review@readingdanvers2739d

This episode is something special. By that I mean that everyone in it are acting like special idiots.

How stupid can Andy be? What did he think was going to happen?

What did Thunderbird think was going to happened? Seriously, by now he should have realized that there are too few mutants left in the Underground and in his little group to make any difference. Also, what did he think he was going to accomplish by acting like an insensitive idiot?

Also, the inner circle's plan sounds really bad to me. I mean what makes them think that they are not just going to get a lot more Rebeca's? Also, there is a big plot-hole in their plan, but I'll let it slide.

The only good things about this episode was Polaris' new awesome look and Andy's reaction and new conviction. Mostly Polaris' look, not exactly comic book accurate, but totally getting there.

For a mid-season finale I just expected more. I expected it to be more interesting, more coherent and not so silly. I was disappointed.

    I give it 6.5/10

    The gifted poster.jpg

Well, that escalated quickly. I knew this was coming, I totally saw it coming, but it did not make any less shocking. By "it" I am referring to the ending of this episode that makes you forget about anything else.

Sure it had some interesting moments. Reed dealing or failing to deal with his new powers. Blink slowly coming to the realization that perhaps the Mutant Underground has lost its purpose, its goal, its people.

Reeva's secret is one that I didn't see coming. She has long term patience. And we also got a glimpse at her history, her story, which made her into who she is.

Even the heist itself was interesting, even though we still don't know everything about it yet. But the execution of the heist was impressive and comical.

And then came the ending. It was so shocking, I just can't unsee it or get over it. Just wow. I almost can't believe they went there, even though I knew that there is a good chance that they will. I really have to know what will happen next.

    I give it a 8.5/10

  10. The Gifted Season 2 – Episode 6 Spoiler Free Review@readingdanvers2752d

    The gifted poster.jpg

After this episode I just don't know how I feel about the show. It should have been an interesting episode, but I found myself pausing a lot during the episode just to do other stuff because it wasn't interesting enough to hold my attention for about 45 minutes.

In theory there were interesting moments in this episode. We got to learn about the harsh upbringing of the Frost sisters, and their story should be heartbreaking. We got another piece of the puzzle that is Reeva's plan. We got to see some intrigues inside of the Inner Circle. There was some decent action. All of this isn't enough.

At some points the acting was cringe worthy. It was so awkward that I had to stop the episode. That happened mostly when Polaris was on screen, Emma Dumont just isn't a good actress in my eyes. She's visually impressive I'll give her that, but when it comes to expressing emotions acting, she's just cringe worthy at times.

I also don't understand the point of Rebecca. Sure, both sides help some shady mutants, but there is bad, and then there is what her character did. It makes the Inner Circle seem less like a grey area and more bad.

Also, I really don't care about Reeva. If that mysterious texting was meant to provoke interest. It failed. Miserably.

Yet, despite the negative I still want to know how it will all work out so I guess not everything about the show is bad. I hope it will get better though. And someone give Emma Dumont some acting lessons please. Although I have to admit that most of the cast is made out of not particularly good actors and actresses.

  11. The Gifted Season 2 – Episode 5 Spoiler Free Review@readingdanvers2761d

    The gifted poster.jpg

Ok, so this was a filler episode. It don't mean that it was a bad episode, but at the end of the day when you think about it. Nothing actually happened in this episode, it just dealt with the consequences of the previous episode.

The Mutant Underground has to deal with the problem that the Inner Circle has created in the previous episode. Blink is the one who steps up and I have a feeling that her role will become bigger with the passing of time. Also, I am not sure she will stay with the Underground in the end.

A character who is getting less and less screen time is Polaris. However, as I don't like what the actress has done with the character I am not complaining. I am complaining about the script. Polaris was in a mutant mental hospital, and it makes no sense for her character to behave so heartless to someone who has been through a similar experience.

I still don't like Andy no matter how much the show tries to make him likable. To me he is still just an annoying teenager and he is totally senseless in my eyes.

And since when is Kate more capable of logic than Thunderbird? It makes no sense. He is the one with army training as this episode reminds us.

Turner as a character is really annoying. If the show was trying to make him sympatric I think they missed the mark. His plan is only half logical and poorly executed. I understand the need to show us the purifiers, but I wish they would do it with a new character and not his.

I am not sure how I feel about the Days of Future Past Easter Egg at the end of the episode. It's kind of cool, but it's also not really logical in the context of the Days of Future Past. It makes sense within the show, but not as an Easter Egg.

It was just a decent episode. Not particularly interesting. I had a difficult time actually remember what happened in the episode as it was so uneventful.

    I give it a 7/10

  12. The Gifted Season 2 – Episode 4 Spoiler Free Review@readingdanvers2794d

    The gifted poster.jpg

This episode is served as evidence that this show can be good when it wants to be.

I mean really good. I got some feels in this episode. The moment you take the baby out of the equation, things really look up. Except for Kate Strucker, I still don't like her character. All of her actions are focused around being a mom and a wife. We have no idea who she is outside of these roles and that makes her character boring and annoying to me no matter what.

Now to the good stuff which is everything else. Finally, we get to see some real action and real emotional conflict. The action was more in the atmosphere, not so much what we actually saw because of the budget restrains probably, but I liked what we saw. The emotional conflicts felt raw and real. Heck for most actors you can see the emotions going through their eyes before they act.

That ending though. Some real consequences with real directions for the show to go in. I am curious about what the Inner Circle's real big plan is. Curious to see what the Underground will do next and how the Morlocks will fit into all of this.

It also appears that the purifiers will become actual players in this season, and boy is the metaphor strong with them. So strong that even Jace Turner cringes away at first. I don't live in the U.S. and it made me cringe and also applaud the show for not avoiding the unavoidable.

Also, just an errand thought, do you think that the Morlocks that are in Marvel comic books and here are related or referring to in any way to the Morlocks in H. G. Wells's Time Machine?

    I give this episode 8/10

  13. The Gifted Season 2 – Episode 3 Spoiler Free Review@readingdanvers2797d

    The gifted poster.jpg

The show continues to move between pretty good and pretty bad. At times it’s so bad it’s literally funny. You know what I’m talking about, the baby plot line vs. the inner circle grand plan.

The baby plot line is awful. Seriously, why is it even necessary? Giving us Eclipse’s family history doesn’t make this plot line any better or any more interesting. Polaris’ cold behavior makes no sense, but this is where I blame the actress, her acting abilities are at best when she’s using her powers, not when she’s trying to express emotions. The only thing that was interesting in this part of the episode was seeing Reeva Payge using her powers in a more impressive manner than in the first episode. Andy is also there in the background, but his character is just not interesting. Also, his makeover for this season looks very unimpressive, he looks like wants to be a badass, but he is not. Basically, this entire plot line is unnecessary, and I hope it actually goes somewhere.

On the other hand, the Morlocks and the inner circle’s plan are much more interesting. The Morlocks themselves and their choices are interesting all on their own. Their looks, their choice of life, their community, it is all interesting and I hope we will get to see more of them. The bigger picture that they help establish is the first move that the inner circle is going to make. It looks like it will be an interesting move even though we have no idea what it is.

Reed Strucker’s story is also starting to get interesting. Surprisingly so. His relationship with his daughter might even shape up to be something interesting and not cliché like. And then there is his wife who is a walking cliché.

Jace Turner’s character makes no sense. In the previous episode, it finely looked like Turner was back to being a normal person and now he is changing again for no apparent reason other than the plots needs him to be a certain type of person. A type of person that I am not sure Coby Bell can actually portray.

I am curious about where the show is going. Well, I am curious to see what the inner circle plan is. I see a lot of untapped potential.

For now I now I give it 7.5/10

  14. The Gifted Season 2 – Episode 2 Spoiler Free Review@readingdanvers2807d

    The gifted poster.jpg

This episode was definitely an improvement from the season premier.

I think that was weighing down the show is everything that has to do with Dawn, Polaris’s baby. First of all, it is so clearly a doll every time Polaris holds it up. And a cheap one. Second of all, the actress who plays Polaris, Emma Dumont, seems to lack in the acting department. She just fails to convey the motherly emotions or the physical exhaustion.

Luckily, now we can see other things going on which are much more interesting. The triplet which I hated in the last season are at last becoming interesting. It looks like we will be exploring how they can be a hive mind and individuals inside of it.

For a half a second there I even liked Andy in this episode. However, Lauren steals the show. Not because she is a better actress, but because her script is simply better. Looks like Reed is also headed into an interesting direction, while his wife continues to be simply annoying.

I have no idea why Jace Turner is still on the show. I can do just fine without his perspective on the show. I know that we are meant to feel sorry for him, but I just don’t.

When it comes to Reeva Payge I am still undecided. She seems like a formidable opponent to the Underground. But her plans seem unrealistic and her perspective that mutant behavior is different from human behavior is a joke. Plus, despite all of her stories, she just feels to damn cold, calculated and unrelatable, as oppose to almost of the mutants surrounding her.

This is a big improvement and I am curious to see what will happen next. To everyone but Polaris, Eclipse and the baby.

    I give it a 7/10

  15. The Gifted Season 2 – Episode 1 Spoiler Free Review@readingdanvers2809d

    The gifted poster.jpg

What a not great start for a season. I had high hopes after the ending of the previous season which promised so many great conflicts, script and personal issues. However, the plot just feels so incoherent and ridicules at times in this episode, that I couldn’t help but feel a sharp contrast.

Even though we can see that it’s been months since the end of the previous season, not everyone is acting like it. I could have ignored it if the rest of the episode was interesting enough or just entertaining. However, there was one thing weighing the entire episode down and that is the birth scene. It was just so terrible, so illogical, so ridicules that for the first time since I started watching the show I felt that a man was writing it and that a woman’s perspective was terribly missing. Like seriously, that is not how giving birth works. It was almost painful to watch in a cringy way.

The mystery of the inner circle would have been interesting if it wasn’t for the events at the beginning of the episode. After that, the entire mystery seems rather pointless.

Reed and Lauren Strucker feel like the only two bright spots in the episode. Reed finally seems to be getting a plot of his own that has nothing to do with his family. Lauren’s way of coping with the new situation seems very realistic and makes me like her character more than I did before. Kate is still just mostly an annoying character.

For now, I am disappointed by this episode, but still intrigued to see what will happen next.

    I give it 6.5/10

Season finale episode. What an ending it is. It seems that it is mostly setting up the next season, so it’s really good that there will be a next season. Otherwise this would have been a very disappointing episode. It is by no means a bad episode, but it surly doesn’t feel like a complete resolution for the plot of the season.

Still, it is the climax of all of the season with a showdown between the mutant underground, hound program, the hellfire club and pretty much everyone in the season. Hard decisions were made in this episode, but you could see them coming from how the orchestrated the last few episodes.

Looks like a lot of things need to happen next season, because so much is set up.

I also like all the different arguments that the show brings up that come up even more in this episode. What is morally the right thing to do, where does the line pass, how hatred can be expressed in so many different ways. You feel that some of the content is so relevant to our world, outside of the show.

Also, there was a really cool Jack Kirby Easter Egg in this episode which was really cool to see. Not that I don’t appreciate the Stan Lee cameos, but he is not the only comic book legend out there.

    I give it 7.5/10

Nothing like a brush with death to make people change their mind. There are now three players on the board: Sentinel services, the mutant underground and the hellfire club. Despite the fact that the mutant underground and the hellfire club may have some overlapping needs, it is an overlap that will probably not last in the long run. In the end, I think they will end up on a collision course. A pretty serious collision.

Also, this episode made the timeline even more convoluted. I just don’t get it. Are they changing characters histories right now? It’s really confusing. Still, I like the show. The more players on the board, the more interesting it is. But, like the opening scene showed us, we don’t get to see mutants out there in the real world. It’s a harsh world.

Despite all the action and the tension, I really hate the triplets and I hope they will leave the show soon. Still, it was a pretty good episode.

    I give it 7.5/10

    Well, that escalated quickly.

In this episode things have pretty much reached a tipping point with Trask industries, sentinel services and the mutant underground.

Trask industries finally got what they wanted, and that will probably show up later on in some horrific way. We still don’t know how, or what was their goal all along, but I guess we will find out. Probably in season 2.

Sentinel services in a way, finally got a grip on itself and sort of decided to do their job. Although at this point I’m surprised no one ratted out on Turner up until this point. Sentinel services is still a legal program, that should still uphold the law and some human rights, whatever that means in the world of the show.

The mutant underground hit a serious obstacle, one which they did not see coming, because they are more concerned with sentinel services to realize that any other threat could actually be a possibility.

It was a really good episode and ended on a really great cliffhanger.

    I give it 8/10

    The Gifted.jpg

Talk about a cliffhanger. Well, actually the entire episode was super tense. Apparently, the new addition to the team is not necessarily a good one.

As the season progress, it really does become all about the Strucker family. Their bad and good side. This is not about with great power comes great responsibility, this is about with great power you can do a lot of harm to others, and maybe you just shouldn’t use your powers. Well, at least the family has learned that it is better to deal with their problems rather than to suppress them.

Along with the new addition, Esme, the mutant underground tries to organize a new plan to survive what sentinel services have in store for them. Because it looks like Turner lost his moral conscious yet again. Maybe his wife should tell him that he is about to lose his mind.

Also, this episode is full of Easter Eggs that make the X-Men timeline not make sense, but I really don’t care at this point. It’s just a cool show.

It was a really tense episode with lot and lot of action and conniving planning.

    I give it 8.5/10

  20. The Gifted Episode 8 Review – No Spoilers@readingdanvers2955d

    The Gifted.jpg

Oh boy. What an episode. I just had my mind blown. I really don't want to spoiler anything, but this just hit Game of Thrones level of WTF.

And now to a more solid review hopefully. In this episode the Mutant Underground tries to find a solution for a new threat that sentinel services has created along with Trask Industries. The threat is significant and has the entire mutant underground worried.

In this episode Eclipse and Reed get to shine. Eclipse needs to deal with the rift that he has created between himself and Polaris. A hard mission. Reed needs to dig deep into his past in order to help the Mutant underground and discovers some shocking information. I mean so shocking, that I had to google it to make sure that I heard and understood correctly. It will have some serious consequences for the show.

It was really cool to see Blink, Eclipse and Thunderbird all fight together and use their powers together, it just had that X-Men vibe that I love so much.

It also looks like we might be getting some new additions to the permanent cast of the show which I highly approve. I can't wait to see where the show it going to go. This episode was an emotional roller coaster and I can't wait to see more of what's to come.

    I give it 8.5/10

  21. The Gifted Episode 7 Review – No Spoilers@readingdanvers2958d

    The Gifted.jpg

Every time I have some spare time, this is the show that I come back to. Even though some of the characters are annoying and act like teenagers when they don’t look like it, I still really enjoy the universe that the show has built. Also, this show is all about consequences and this episode was full of them. Mainly, for Eclipse and Jace Turner.

Both Eclipse and Turner made some pretty hard decisions in the last few episodes for the right reasons they believed. But, faith aside and reality aside. Eclipse finds himself in a place he didn’t want to be in, but in a dark way he might enjoy and then regret it. Turner decided to escalate his fight against mutants and realizing that perhaps he went too far. That there is a limit to what he can do.

Lauren Strucker and Wes relationship also gets complicated because of the consequences of past actions. But nothing too serious.

I always find it odd that the last name of the main family in the show is Strucker. But considering what we have learned about Reed Strucker’s family, perhaps he has another brother or some distant family member who has the Strucker name, that will become the Strucker that we learned to know.

The episode ended in a really interesting way, not exactly a cliffhanger, but it was one. I am liking the direction the show is taking.

    I give it 8/10

    The Gifted.jpg

Yes, I am officially onboard “the gifted” train. I really like it. This episode we got to see Thunderbird’s background story. Well, we got a glimpse of it and it was really interesting. We also got to see him use his powers in cool new ways, so awesome. It was fascinating to see how slowly the world escalated. You also can’t help but feel that some of things we see are totally relevant to our own world. As is usually the case with sci-fi and fantasy. In this case I feel the discussion is around how hate and war are an endless cycle.

It was nice to see Reed Strucker and his son, Andy, bonding in this episode. Both kids got to shine and use their powers in a really cool way. I am now back to hating Kate Strucker. Even her husband has a better grasp of the situation that they are in and what it requires them to do. She just seems so disconnected from everything.

Also, as the noose around the mutants gets tighter, the situation turns into something completely different than expected. The new mysteries just get more mysterious and I hope that the answers will live up to the expectations in the end.

All in all, another entertaining episode.

    I give it 8/10

  23. The Gifted Episode 5 Review – No Spoilers@readingdanvers3018d

    The Gifted.jpg

This show has really grown on me. Despite clearly being low budget, the vey x-men themes that it brings up are really interesting. The interesting conflicts are shown best in this episode. How far is too far when it comes to defending yourself. Is what Polaris and Dreamer wrong? Or a necessary evil? Is there such thing as a necessary evil? These conflicts are what make mutants so interesting. That and their cool powers, but we get less of that here. Also, we don’t get to see them use it in any fun way.

This episode also gave us some actually interesting background to the world that this show takes in. Some good world building is always good for a show, it’s credibility and our general enjoyment of it. The best thing about it, is that this means there a lot more to explore in this world. Looks like we will be doing the exploring along with our main characters. Which is pretty cool. Even Kate Strucker, my least favorite character on the show, got a moment to shine. Still, her kids are a lot more interesting than her, and they become more interesting with every episode.

I’m really happy with the direction this show is taking.

    I give it 8/10

  24. The Gifted Episode 4 Review – No Spoilers@readingdanvers3025d

    The Gifted.jpg

This episode was full of action and flashbacks. It was so fun that it passed in a heartbeat. We learned more about the background stories of Eclipse and Polaris, and even Thunderbird. So, Eclipse and Polaris got the cheesy part, which was only good because it was nice to see them use their powers for fun. Thunderbird got the more touching and hard backstory.

The saga with Sage, Thunderbird and Blink feels really unnecessary to me. Bad romance drama that doesn’t work. At least with Eclipse and Polaris it makes the show more interesting. Although I don’t know how Eclipse will get out of the rough spot that he got himself into.

I am a bit torn about the action, which isn’t really great for one particular reason. Budget. You can tell where the special effects have been applied, because it doesn’t look even slightly real. This isn’t Game of Thrones, it’s a low-maybe medium budget show and Mutants never look good with low budget. On the plus side they did the best that they could with their budget and they made up for it with a lot of action that doesn’t require CGI. So, in the ending it was entertaining, though it takes you out of the moment at times.

Also, I have to say that the Strucker kids make for a pretty good team. I still don’t like the character of their mother, still a walking cliché.

The episode ends with a promise for more. More action and more moral question to be asked. I am looking forward to it.

I also want to point out that I stopped watching the show for a while, because of some serious lack of time. Not because I don’t find it interesting.

    I give it 7.5/10

  25. The Gifted Episode 3 Review – No Spoilers@readingdanvers3094d

    The Gifted.jpg

This episode was a good one. Yet somehow this show doesn’t really make we want to binge watch all the episodes I missed. It touches on difficult themes very effectively, but also in a way that curbed my enthusiasm about the next episode.

The beginning of the episode provided the only fun scene of the episode. Polaris and Eclipse discussing what they did with their powers when they first discovered them. Obviously, you have fun with them. It was a pretty cool scene. It also shows a kitschy, we are in love scene in a very cute, original way.

Sometimes when you see a superhero/superpowered TV show you forget that it takes place in America. In this episode, it was clear that the episode was taking place in America. Yes, I am talking about civilians carrying so many heavy weapons and acting like the police doesn’t exists. If the show wanted to add a gun regulation agenda to its themes, it checked that box with this episode.

Reed Strucker learns the hard way that all mutants are people and not just his family. Poor Polaris wants to get out of jail in anyway possible and Eclipse wants her out at any price. Everyone wants to break Reed and Polaris out of jail, but it’s easier said than done.

I have a feeling that it is Dreamer’s decision that will cause the most cringe worthy intrigues. I am hoping that they will not be cringe worthy, but I am just not liking the actress who plays Blink. At least not in this episode that shined a spotlight on her.

Also, it’s hard to believe that anyone can be as naïve as Kate was in this episode. Do you really not understand how people in your world feel about mutants? I mean you live in it. Also, why did the writers have to do that to the character, she seemed to be developing so nicely in the previous episode.

All in all it was an alright episode. We are clearly building up towards a jail break which I hope will come soon.

    I give it 7/10

  26. The Gifted Review#16@filotasriza33122d

Hello guys ready for another series review? off we go then

Today it's time to bring light into Marvel's shows. A couple of days ago we went for a trip into the Dark side with Inhumans a series that was a complete failure for both Marvel and for us. Don't worry i think with The Gifted they balanced it somehow. The Gifted is undoubtedly one of the best series Marvel made this far and below i will explain why.

    General Info and Plot

The Gifted is a 13 episode and 43 minutes Action,Drama, Fantasy with Superpowers series that sets in the X-Men Universe after the disappearance of the X-men. In this era it is considered quite common for mutants to coexist with humans but only if they don't use their powers to ''harm'' in any way the rest of the citizens something that if you watch the show you will understand how it works out.

There is even an anti mutant law

The protagonists of the story are the Strucker family, a family of 4 with Reed Strucker as the father (Stephen Moyer) a prosecutor for mutants, his wife Kate (Amy Acker) and their 2 children Lauren and Andy. Lauren is the older sister and Andy is the younger child the one that got bullied at school constantly. An Everyday life!

Everything starts at the time Andy manifests his power while bullied and almost brings down an entire stadium. From here the adventure starts with Lauren shows her's powers too that had discovered some years ago and run towards their home. Meanwhile the police or should i say the ''Sentinel Services'' a group of police you might say if you haven't heard them from an X-men film or a comic that is responsible of capturing mutants.

As the children go home and tell their mom everything a whole journey begins trying to avoid Sentinel services and teaming up with an underground mutant net that Reed believed it was some kind of gang to help hide their children and them. The whole show you might say is Mutants vs Sentinel Services

    My Review

Comparing the first episode of this and Inhumans the difference is quite obvious The Gifted has proven it's worth with the 9 episodes it has out till now and i can say by now that season 2 maybe quite near!

Characters: The character build is good enough and with the new episodes coming out we learn a bit more about their backstories. Don't expect fancy backstories with a lot of drama but more reality ones ( reality with the dose of the X-men universe :P ). The bonds between them built quite good and for the love of god there are not ridiculous costumes, there are no costumes at all PRAISE THE LORD

Fight scenes: This i believe is one of the keys this show i great. The fights are different each time and suit perfect for each character. You will not see that same and same choreographs but instead you will see exceptional smart fights with their superpowers.

Plot: Not something out of usual, you can't expect a lot from these types of series especially if you were a fan of Marvel and X-men for a long time, then most of everything show you will know or get it pretty easily. If you on the other hand have no idea about X-men then you will find some surprises and plot-twists inside the show.

CGI: That is the other key attribute of the series. They have successfully merge the CGI creating the superpowers without seen as ''too much'' or ''fake''. First of all you will not watch the same and the same superpowers as fire-ice-water but instead some unique ones and you will not watch all the time. They made it that way in which they only use their powers when they needed too

    Overall rating on IMDb 8/10

    Overall rating on Metacritic  7/10

Overall rating on Roten Tomatoes 6.91/10

    Overall rating of me 7.7/10

I am waiting anxiously for your comments see ya!

  27. The Gifted Episode 2 Review – No Spoilers@readingdanvers3148d

    The Gifted.jpg

This episode was directed by Len Wiseman. He also directed Underworld and Total Recall. Not the best movies, but movies none the less and it shows. Despite some claims that I’ve heard that the show looks like it was made on a small budget I certainly don’t so. It may not be Game of Thrones production level, but it’s still pretty impressive and doesn’t make me think – cheap. Especially the special effects on Blink.

The plot on the other hand is only ok for now. Sometimes, the preaching is a bit too much on the nose. I am not a fan of the Polaris plotline, even though I really like the character. Her adventures in jail are just not interesting inside an X-Men show. surprisingly, Kate Strucker, the boring mother from the previous episode was the most interesting character in this episode. It’s nice that they found a plotline for her that doesn’t revolve around her kids. Speaking of kids Lauren and Andy got to showcase their powers and it was pretty impressive. Reed Strucker got the most interesting plotline. Probably because it’s a famous actor. It was really interesting to know how the background story of this X-men world. We are starting to piece together how did things in their world got so bad.

When it comes to Jace Turner, I don’t think I was ever so indifferent to someone’s problems or feelings. I am not sure if it’s a problem in his acting or intentional, he is just one of the characters that I hope will be taken out soon.

It was a good episode generally. We got to see how hard it is to be a mutant in the current world and got a glimpse into a game changing event, perhaps connected to Logan? The cliffhanger of this episode definitely left me curious.

    I give it 8/10

  28. The Gifted Episode 1 Review – No Spoilers@readingdanvers3190d

    The Gifted.jpg

At last a comic book TV series that delivered on its promise. Although it is very hard to go wrong with mutants.

IMDB’s synopsis states: “A suburban family is forced to go on the run when the children are discovered to possess mutant powers.”

Unlike Marvel’s Inhuman’s, The Gifted doesn’t look cheap. At least in their premiere episode. This episode did have a semi-movie quality to it, helped by the fact that it was directed by the X-MEN man himself – Bryan Singer. The effects were greats, the editing was great, the action was great. It felt very professional.

Obviously, this is FOX so timelines make no sense whatsoever, don’t even try to put things together. The TV show tries to locate itself relativity to the movies, but if you think about it for two seconds it will fall apart. So it is both located and not located in the same timeline as the movies.

It was fun seeing Polaris, Blink and Thunderbird, which are the mutants I recognized.

The Strucker family are original characters to the series. Although with that last name we might find out that they are not so original after all. It’s good to see Stephen Moyer, who plays Reed Strucker, back on the small screen. I haven’t seen him since I stopped watching True Blood in the middle of the show, but he’s a great actor. His character is a lawyer who represents mutants who have harmed humans. Amy Acker, the actress who plays the wife, Caitlin Strucker, is a classical supporting wife and has nothing to do. Too bad, I really liked her in The Cabin in the Woods.

I was pleasantly surprised by the children of the family. Natalie Alyn Lind as Lauren Strucker and Percy Hynes White as Andy Strucker are a refreshing depiction of a brother and sister. They get along, but not too much. They know each other, but not too much. They seemed to be the right amount of teenager stupid. I enjoyed their character more than I thought I will.

This show also pulled out some big guns in this episode, I hope the next one will not be a disappointment in comparison. Sure, they had the low budget versions of a few things, but boy when you do things so originally, you barely remember that the change was probably was for budget reasons.

There were some easter eggs that made me totally geek out. But I’ll let you be surprised.

    I give it 8.5/10
