Greetings movie lovers, today I want to share with you my impressions of the movie The Truth of Soraya M. This is a 2008 movie that was recommended to me many years ago by my friend @yetsimar, because she knows that I love the dramatic cinema and especially if it is about films based on real events, however, I avoided seeing it because I did not feel sure that I was prepared at that time to face such a story, because it is based on the book La Femme Lapidée, by the journalist Freidoune Sahebjam according to information provided in the film and by Wikipedia . My refusal to see it before was because I knew from the title alone that it was about the stoning of a woman and this is something that just exceeds my emotional threshold.

It is an American movie but the real event happened in 1986 in Iran, despite the fact that for people on this side of the world the customs of the Islamic religion are not generally known and we have judgments based only on what the media tells us It is no secret to anyone that in these countries they always apply their law severely depending on the political environment, because although their beliefs are quite radical, they will be subject to the political group that is in charge, being in so many conflicts for so many years, you can see a lot of inequality in the culture of some peoples compared to others of the same religion, you can also see how some Islamic people have their religion and customs in a very westernized way, while others have customs that have been challenging the world for many years. common sense.

In the film, the story is told from the day after Soraya's stoning, when a journalist who goes to the border to France stays with the damaged car in the town, a woman named Zahra takes advantage of the occasion to tell him in secret the events of the previous day in the hope that this journalist will spread the injustice they did to her niece Soraya, so the story of the film begins with the narration of that woman. From the beginning it is known what the end is, that is to say, it is taken for granted that the stoned woman has died, but it is throughout the film where the details of that unfortunate situation are found, so one as a spectator remains very attentive even when the scenes don't show a major shock, because I think that more than curiosity people's desire is to somehow find an explanation for something so ruthless.

As a woman, the emotion of impotence overwhelmed me when I learned the reasons, or less said, the excuses used to carry out the totally arbitrary trial against Soraya, knowing that there are parts of the world where a woman has no rights and that with only the A man's word that a woman can be sentenced to death is something that hits me hard in the chest, on the other hand I noticed that the film makes a long time close-up of Soraya's face on many occasions, the actress's gaze is intense, with With little dialogue, it is possible to fully understand their vulnerability and frustration, I think that any person, being a woman or a man, does not deserve a punishment such as stoning just for being unfaithful, being guilty or not, such a punishment seems to me something completely irrational starting with that, I think that the film touches on sensitive issues even for the men themselves, because Soraya's sons were not allowed to doubt the charges against their mother, much less express ar sympathy for her.

In films with a Middle Eastern setting, I have always liked to appreciate the desert landscapes, the music and of course the fabrics and ornamental things in the scenes, but in this film it is all about Soraya's drama, there is no space to see something to soften the emotion a bit, from the beginning to the end of the film my jaw was clenched with rage, on the other hand I did not expect the stoning scene to be shown the way it was, they did not abuse, that is, It was not shown with excessive blood and unjustified approaches, however it was shown, with all the hardness that implies seeing a person buried up to the waist being stoned by men, including his family.

I think that the cinematographic aspect to highlight in a special way is the acting and above all the story, reality sometimes surpasses fiction, so I am sure that in the film everything looks smoother, I very much doubt that in reality said woman even they were given some respite. It is a film that I recommend seeing, of course, but you must be emotionally prepared, because it is not about enduring a scare like in a horror movie, it is about being able to endure rage without wanting to crash the screen.
