I really liked the film because of the family and generational message that it transmits in a funny way between a grandfather, sometimes curmudgeonly, but at the same time affectionate, who in his own way tries to teach his grandson the importance of family. With his friends, Peter, he will try through heavy jokes to make his grandfather see that he wants his room back, which was taken from him when his grandfather moved in with him. Ed sees how his grandson manages to play all kinds of practical jokes on him and he responds in the same way. Me gustó mucho la película por el mensaje familiar y generacional que transmite de una manera divertida entre un abuelo, a veces cascarrabias, pero al mismo tiempo cariñoso, que a su manera intenta enseñarle a su nieto la importancia de la familia. Con sus amigos, Peter, intentará a través de bromas pesadas hacerle ver a su abuelo que desea devuelta su cuarto, que le fue arrebatado cuando su abuelo se va a vivir a su casa. Ed, ve como su nieto se las ingenia para jugarle todo tipo de bromas pesadas y él le responde de la misma manera. The best thing about the film is realizing that generational gap between Ed and Peter's gang, who face each other in a duel to resolve their differences, for me one of the best scenes in the film, full of jokes and cliches, which they make us laugh throughout the mourning. The performances of Jerry (Walken), as the modern and technological man despite his years, is hilarious, along with De Niro, one of the best duos in cinema. We can also see the father and daughter relationship, when Sally (Uma), tries to take care of her father after becoming a widower and the roles in the relationship are reversed. Although this relationship was subtle in the film and I don't deepen it, they let us see how parents become their children's children when they get older.
Lo mejor de la cinta es darnos cuenta de esa brecha generacional entre la pandilla de Ed y de Peter, quienes se enfrentan en un duelo para dirimir sus diferencias, para mi una de las mejores escenas de la película, cargada de chites y cliches, que nos hacen reír durante todo el duelo. Las actuaciones de Jerry (Walken), como el hombre moderno y tecnológico a pesar de sus años, es hilarante, junto a De Niro, de las mejores duplas del cine. También podemos ver la relación padre e hija, cuando Sally (Uma), trata de cuidar a su padre luego de quedar viudo y se invierten los papeles en la relación. Aunque en la cinta fue sutil es esta relación y no la profundizo nos dejan ver como los padres se convierten en los niños de los hijos, cuando estos van envejeciendo.
The film is funny and has moving moments, but it focuses on the relationship between grandparents and their grandchildren, that very special relationship that those of us who had wonderful grandparents remember and carry in our hearts. I loved that about this film, I had grandparents like that and today I still remember them with all the love they gave me as a girl. The cinema and movies like these are magical to remove these feelings and make us smile while we watch it.
La película es divertida y tiene momentos conmovedores, pero se centra en la relación de los abuelos y sus nietos, esa relación tan especial que quienes tuvimos abuelos maravillosos, recordamos y llevamos en nuestros corazones. Los abuelos, al no tener esa responsabilidad de padres, muchas veces son más permisivos, menos estrictos y cariñosos. Muchos se convierten en cómplices de sus nietos y los ayudan en sus travesuras. Eso me encantó de esta cinta, tuve abuelos así y hoy los sigo recordando con todo el amor que me brindaron siendo una niña. Sundays were made to rest and share with the family, so at home we usually, among other things, watch family movies that we can all enjoy together, being comedy movies our favorite ones.
A review of the audiovisual proposals of the different streaming networks led us to Amazon Prime, where a title captivated us at first sight "The War with Grandpa", but it was part of its cast that finally winked at me, as the brief review mentions Robert De Niro, Uma Thurman and Rob Riggle in the cast, but additionally the promotional image also shows the participation of Christopher Walken; in short, enough reasons to give it a chance.
Los domingos se hicieron para descansar y compartir con la familia, por ello en casa acostumbramos, entre otras cosas, ver películas de corte familiar que podamos disfrutar todos juntos, siendo nuestras preferidas las de comedia.
Un repaso por las propuestas audiovisuales de las diferentes cadenas streaming nos llevó a Amazon Prime, donde un título nos cautivó a primera vista “En Guerra con mi Abuelo”, pero fue parte de su elenco el que finalmente me guiñó el ojo, pues la breve reseña menciona en el elenco a Robert De Niro, Uma Thurman y Rob Riggle, pero adicionalmente la imagen promocional deja ver también la participación de Christopher Walken; en fin, motivos suficientes para darle una oportunidad.

In this film, Robert de Niro is Ed, a recently widowed grandfather whose daughter Sally, played by Uma Thurman, invites him to live with her and her family in order to give him more attention. The first few days everything seemed to go smoothly, until Peter tells his friends about his current situation and they encourage him to try to get his room back, declaring war on his grandpa. From here on you can guess that the next thing triggers a series of super fun events in which grandson and grandfather fight for control of the territory, to the point that the mischief gets out of control and becomes a crazy war that ends up involving the whole family. And it is the latter that the grandfather warns the boy about, the consequences of war, making him see that it is not just a game, but that wars cause real pain, and that violence as a weapon only generates more violence until it becomes something so big that it ends up hurting everyone in its path.
Los primeros días todo parecía ir en armonía, hasta que Peter les comenta a sus amigos de su situación actual y éstos lo aúpan a intentar recuperar su habitación, declarándole la guerra a su abuelo. De aquí en adelante podrán suponer que lo próximo desencadena en una serie de sucesos super divertidos en los que nieto y abuelo luchan por el dominio del territorio, al punto que las travesuras se salen de control y se convierte en una alocada guerra que termina por involucrar a toda la familia. Y es esto último lo que el abuelo advierte al chico, las consecuencias que conlleva la guerra, haciéndole ver que no se trata solo de un juego, sino que las guerras causan un dolor real, y que la violencia como arma solo genera más violencia hasta convertirse en algo tan grande que termina por herir a todos a su paso.

Aunque la historia se centra en la guerra, términos como conciliación, acuerdos, perdón, e incluso amor, marcarán la trama.
I must say that I really enjoyed this movie, indeed, the laughs will not belong incoming, the obstacles imposed by this pair with the help of their allies are really funny; additionally, there are emotional and sobering scenes worth enjoying. From the above you can assume that I recommend it to share with the family, it is a fun, fresh, emotional movie, with an uplifting message, and with an ending that suggests that this is not over yet.
Debo decir que disfruté muchísimo esta película, efectivamente las risas no se harán esperar, las zancadillas que se imponen este par con ayuda de sus aliados son verdaderamente divertidas; adicionalmente, hay escenas emotivas y aleccionadoras dignas de disfrutar. The War with Grandpa is a quite new movie starring Uma Thurman and Robert de Niro. It has nothing special to offer that we haven't seen before, but still, I found it quite amusing, and even more so, my kids!
I discovered The War with Grandpa on HBO here the other day, and so I decided to watch it with my kids on a day we had off. They had heard a little bit about the movie before, but in general, they didn't have much idea about what was about to happen in the movie.
The story... an easy one!
Grandpa (Robert de Niro) is getting old and his daughter invites him to come and live with the family. He doesn't come happily, but in the end, he still decides to move. One person who doesn't like this is the son in the house (Peter), because he has to move to the attic and give his former room to the grandpa. A war is about to start!
The war takes us to funny levels in which they try to make life hard for one another, and kids watching it will for sure have a good time watching the battles take place!
I was kind of reminded of Home Alone at times, but this is still a way nicer kind of humor, and I also enjoyed the company of the friends of Grandpa who join him to give him advice and help along the way. A cool little addition is also the friend of Peter who always ends up being bugged by his sister who shares information about him that he doesn't really want to share in front of his friends.
All in all - a nice family movie!
To be honest, this is what I would call a nice family movie, suitable for kids aged 7 or older. It is mostly harmless, it has some good points, and it has a good morale in the end.
The War with Grandpa also has a lot of cool jokes, meaning that the kids will laugh, and so will most parents and grandparents watching it together with their kids as well!

Aquí no encontramos escenas de sexo ni drogas, como en Mi abuelo es un peligro, por lo que es ideal para verlo junto a toda la familia.

Al llegar a su nueva casa Ed (Robert De Niro) se muda al cuarto de su nieto, Peter (Oakes Fegley), quién no está nada de acuerdo, y sin importarle por los momentos difíciles que está pasando su abuelo, como una perdida o incluso su incapacidad de manejar, le declara la guerra en busca de recuperar su cuarto.
Upon arriving at his new house, Ed (Robert De Niro) moves to the room of his grandson, Peter (Oakes Fegley), who does not agree at all, and without caring about the difficult moments that his grandfather is going through, as a lost or even his inability to drive declares war on him in search of his room back.
Aquí podemos ver lo importante que es la familia para superar todos esos momentos difíciles, que aunque buscando otros objetivos, su nieto ayuda a su abuelo a salir del lugar oscuro en el que estaba, para que esté pueda seguir adelante con su vida y formando un lado familiar muy fuerte.
