  1. Unlocked - Monster Behind the Phone | Film Review [En-Es]@neruel1220d

Not everything is what it seems. What's around you may be frightening, starting with the cell phone in your hands. What's behind it? A hidden monster may be lurking to try to steal who you are.

I saw this movie last weekend. Originally, I was putting this review together a little at a time to give myself a broader scope of perception about the plot and message.

Everyone owns a cell phone, most hours of the day we are glued to it, and this causes us to become sedentary: dangerous? It can be harmful, but the reliable thing is that many things can start to tear apart if it becomes excessive.

One of the most marked things within the plot of this film is the complex need of the protagonist to be next to something material, that is, her cell phone. It happens, it happens and maybe even many people can't avoid it nowadays. What's the problem? Simple, the damage that can occur through computer crime.

It is frightening, but this is a new concept in Latin America and the world, due to the high technological development accelerated since the beginning of this century. Some frontier or emerging markets do not have deep legislation on the subject, others are ahead. This is due to the composition of the story, where the protagonist is the victim of a crime of this magnitude.

Now, the problem starts from the discernment that everyone has, this is vital because anyone can suffer a deep damage that ends up taking away the life or even the status of a person due to data breach. I am referring to the defamation of personal information on social networks obtained by hacking a cell phone.

In countries where there is low crime and high education rates, e.g. South Korea, it is normal for people to call and report a lost phone. The logical thing to do is for the person who found it to call and turn it in (obviously this depends on circumstances, mode, time and place). This is what happens in this film, of course, the cell phone is delivered destroyed, but the problem is that the protagonist repairs it and coincidentally does so with the person who would practically destroy her life.

Innocence or mediocrity? No, neither, but rather confidence that Dantesque events of this magnitude will not occur, of course, that is where the circumstances of mode, time and place come in, which allow us to understand the criminal variation: Crimes are different in developed societies and this is something that this film shows in an accurate way.

Something peculiar is that people think that criminals must be physically horrible, and have a corpulent build: this is because of the characters that define the physical body. I liked the film that the criminal was someone physically scrawny, a sweet face and also looked modest to the perception of others.

At this point many would think that it is not very credible that someone with these descriptions would be a serial killer, but in reality that is where human innocence sins, sins for innocence. The most nefarious criminals are those who can immerse themselves in the social structure without any problem, even become elementary to it, and secretly be beasts who cause harm to others for pleasure or enjoyment.

Something I hate is that people are superficial, people define someone by a first impression nowadays, it's true, that's true! The problem lies in the history of that person and what he hides. This happens perfectly in the film, you see how the murderer integrates into society, goes to the victim's work, the boss likes him and asks for recipes that only the staff knows because they are exclusive sales. No one suspects, no one says anything and everyone keeps quiet, since he has a good appearance.

I say it again: You can be deceived, and be the next victim if you believe only in a first impression or in someone's physical appearances.

¿Inocencia o mediocridad?

First would be CEO Oh to snatch Lee Na-mi (Chun Woo-Hee) her formal job, then would come her best friend and then her father. Of course, to the point that there was no one left, the only downside is that Lee Na-mi was not so innocent.

There is a powerful phrase: There is no perfect crime. A clue is always found; and it ends up generating the whole scheme of the crime. I can say that the victim noticed the danger, and was intelligent, beginning to reason.

In this case Oh Joon-yeong (Im Si-wan) plays his role well as a sick killer, the problem comes in the lack of strength in the key scenes where he should have reacted, but it seems that the criminal profile is of a weak and frustrated man with family problems. There is one scene within the plot that really was very poor and that is when the direct coercion of him against Lee Na-mi begins. It looks poorly crafted, precarious, and meaningless.

This scene could have been perfect if the antagonist was used some force, it practically looks like one of those pamphlets where a joke is told to then give way to a scene a little stronger, but that at the same time is hidden from the visual perception. A bad game, everything should have been more explicit.

Something that leaves the film delimited in a powerful and marked way is revenge. I dare to say that it is the most shocking part of the film, to see how the victim uses force against the perpetrator for intense pain. In this case the protagonist dyes her hands red due to several elements: police negligence, psychological violation and emotional suffering, but what makes the plot perfect is the recognition that the impulse that led her to act in this way did not exist. The truth is that the outburst was hasty.

Unlocked assumes that data is susceptible to breach, deletion and that intense pain can cause irreparable damage, as can murder.

We have Na Mi, a young girl who lives glued to her phone, and through which she plans many things in her life, in addition to being in charge of the marketing part of a company which she manages through her cell phone. One day out, Na mi loses her cell phone and is picked up by a stranger named Jun-yeong who is in charge of hacking her cell phone and placing spyware on it, which ends up returning in a very strange way, I tell you that this happens in the first few minutes of the movie

then they begin Strange events happen in Nami's life that little by little causes her to move away from her circle of friends, from work and even from her family, which in this case is her father, who owns a cafe where she eventually works. and who notices strange behaviors of a person who begins to frequent the cafe.

The film has a plot that, although it is not new, if you know how to exploit it correctly, you can get an excellent production, but in this case I feel that it was not like that, of course I am not a cinema expert, I only share my opinion how the film made me feel in terms of production level, because the message of the story is wonderful, especially for these times when we are connected to everything.

The film instills that fear in you and makes you question yourself. What would happen if a psychopath found a device as personal as a cell phone? a device that contains so much information about our life, because practically everything is done through our cell phones, bank accounts, passwords, photographs, videos, private conversations, important and valuable information for anyone that in the wrong hands can cause a lot of damage.

And we are not just talking about publishing compromising photographs, much less about stolen money, but about someone who simply finds it stimulating to play with you like a cat plays with a mouse until they end your life, who sees you suffer little by little and Go away from the world simply for the pleasure of hurting a person, it is something that, seen like this, causes you a lot of fear, and that is something that you can see in the film and in how exposed we are with our cell phones.

    identidad desbloqueada 7.jpg

One of the things Na mi asks Jun-yeong is why me? as if there was a reason to hurt her so much, but her response is the scariest, because it's simply not something she has against her, they didn't even know each other. It's like in real life in those famous serial killer cases, you just showed up at the wrong place at the wrong time and that's the scariest thing ever.

There is a part that I did not like very much about the film that is an intertwined story, or rather it is a part that I did not understand very well, it is about a policeman who is investigating a mysterious death and a possible case of a serial killer, this Police are investigating the disappearance of his son, but it was not clear to me if he thought the son was suspected of murder or death, and in the final part he discovers what happened to the son, who was related to Jun-yeong, but even that part left me with several questions.

This Korean film is an adaptation of a Japanese version, which from what little I could read on the internet turned out to be better than the Japanese one, but it didn't seem that way to me, well, I haven't seen the Japanese version either to be able to give an opinion based on it, but the The movie has not had good reviews either, in fact, in order for you to give an opinion, you must first see the movie, because it is likely that you like it or not.

What I can say is that the message that the film leaves us is very clear, we must be more careful where we leave our cell phone and how we handle our personal information, because anyone with bad intentions can ruin our lives in a matter of seconds. In addition to not clicking on unknown links because with just one click we can lose more than information, many things can be lost just with that and in the film it is very clear. Thank you very much for having read this far, I would like to know your opinion if you have already seen the film and if not what you think about it, I will be delighted to read it.

Now I will try to explain what the story is about without sounding so bizarre, The story focuses on a young employee named Lee Na-mi, she is very cheerful and good people but like all people (or almost all young people) is addicted to cell phone, one day in a drunken binge she drops her phone on the bus and a guy picks it up (all good until then), things get weird when the guy pretends to be a woman to give her the phone, damaging the screen and making Na-mi go to a "Repair Center" so he can access the phone and make a clone or whatever, so he can see her through the camera, access everything she does on the phone and even manipulate it himself from a distance... that's not all, the police find a corpse of a young woman and the boss could by small clues believes it could be his son .

The story goes pretty fast, something that I liked is the introduction of the girl's life, she looks like a young girl and I have to say that the camera direction and those in charge of the scene did very well, an example is the scene where he grabs the phone gave me a lot of chills, for its part I feel that I had not seen a movie that in my opinion had a good pace was neither fast nor slow and that hooks you from the beginning causing intrigue.

On the subject of the characters I liked, Na-mi is a pretty good and generous girl for what they show us instead the other protagonist would allow me to label him as a psychopath and a sociopath, I think if only they had left him as a virtual harassment to like it would not be so bad (although even so) it is known that it is like a kind of serial killer, that besides killing his victims he analyzes them and destroys their social life and bonds as we see with Na-mi, it gave me a lot of chills the part where they find the corpse of several victims because I know it does not come to the case but it reminded me of the femicide of Debanhi Escobar and the corpses they found in their search. On one hand I would have liked them to give depth to the story of him because he does those atrocities, see Flashback or things like that but I guess not everyone should have a story to be bad.

On the other hand the case of the detective took me out of my mind, I feel that I mentally insulted him several times and there was a scene that made me very silly (although later everything makes sense and blows your mind) but it is the fact that I was exasperated with the fear that I felt and I thought that I was giving him many turns to catch the culprit, I have to say that it does have a lot of mystery about what is going to happen next and I liked the fact that it is based on a book, I guess they do not have the same thread of plot or category but it left me several deja vu with a movie I saw months ago and I reviewed it here too and I'm talking about "Del Teléfono" a story that also deals with these artifacts but it is more fantasy, but it goes for the style of intrigue.

I have to say that it is no secret that they are practically shouting at us how dangerous can be these devices that almost all day we have in our hand, because literally our life is inside it, not for nothing is called Unlocked Identity because with only their social networks, messages and surveillance (which would not be so effective if their victims did not have the phone all day in hand) could hurt their victims, I do not want to debel the end but if I give it a thumbs up, it generated me many feelings of helplessness, fear, sadness and anger.

Hello my beautiful people of Movies & TV Shows today I bring you a spy movie with a dose of action, the truth at the beginning of the trailer did not call my attention because it is shown as the same as always, but then there was something that caught my attention and so I decided to see it, plus it stars the main actress of "Black Crab" and "What happened to Monday?" that the truth so far I have loved her performance in both films and no doubt that in this film her work is just as good as the previous ones, nothing to criticize her.

It is about a CIA agent named Alice who must find out about an attack that is being armed in the city of London, but discovers that the agency is in danger and she is being pursued by an infiltrator in the organization.

To be honest the story does not bring anything new and innovative in this genre, personally I think they have run out of new ideas for this kind of movies, because we already know almost all the tricks, but what made me stay to see it, was that hook they gave the protagonist to be pursued by an infiltrator that at the end of the story we are quite surprised who it is, because it gives a big twist to the story and that most likely no one imagined it.

    mini hive.jpg

I can highlight the performance of Noomi Rapace who undoubtedly has been doing a great job, although the story does not allow her to develop her character much more, she was in charge of giving life to a CIA agent with excellent action scenes and fights, I really feel that it is a role that develops excellently.

We will see great actors like Orlando Bloom and Michael Douglas but they do not have big participations in the plot, so I could say that they wasted that incredible material to develop their characters much more, this could be due to the short time that the film lasts an hour and a half that does not give for much, but it manages to entertain if you want to see something of the genre.

    mini hive.jpg

A story where evidence is presented about an attack plotted by Muslim extremist groups, mixed with some American influences, where there is the possibility of a biological attack on where it resembles something similar to the Covid-19 pandemic, something we have already seen in countless movies.

Perhaps for me it was the performance of the protagonist that saved the plot and left me watching the story until the end, because even we can see how the ending is quite abrupt because everything closes very quickly and you are left with the question "And so it ended? but if you are looking for something new to see to entertain you, this could be an option.

    mini hive.jpg

Without a doubt, I love that they leave me a mystery in the plot to know who will be the mastermind of everything, and see how it is discovered in the end and this film has the perfect dose, we also have two fabulous actors who are quite well known John Malkovich and Toni Collette and they have a lot to do with our protagonist, because you never know who is telling the whole truth, I think I had to watch the movie twice to better understand certain things that managed to confuse me several times, so for me it was not a such a bad plot, but I would have liked them to develop it a little more.

  6. Unlocked (2017) review - Good action that reminded me of 24!@unbiasedwriter2153d

Unlocked is something as strange as an action movie with quite a lot of famous actors from 2017, that I had never heard about before I noticed it on Netflix last week. It felt strange, after all, I do love a good action movie, and I do not understand how this can have passed by without me noticing it. My best guess is that Unlocked never came to cinemas in Hungary, and that is why I never had the chance to watch it. But, when I read the storyline and saw the actors, I decided quickly to stream it on Netflix. Was it worth it?

    noomi rapace.jpg

Noomi Rapace plays the roe as Alice Raine, a former agent that now works in an office for migrants. She is still helping the anti-terror squad whenever she discovers something that seems suspicious, but her life as an agent is over. Her good friend played by Toni Collette is the one she is reporting to, and their friendship will prove itself to be very important throughout the happenings of the movie.

    The story

A courier is sent with a message from an imam to a believer. The believer is willing to act on any message given by the imam, and that is why it is very important to get the message through in the right way. But, what is the message of the courier? The courier is taken captive, and Aice Raine (Noomi Rapace) is brought in to do the interrogation, since nobody is better qualified than her. But, there is something wrong, because in the middle of the interrogation her superiors give her a call telling her that they will soon help her find the messenger. That leads to a different question - who is she with right now?

I will not share much more of the story right here as it is actually quite packed with cool twists, making the story interesting and something that you will want to follow all the way to the end. We also meet John Malkovich as her superior in the United States. He doesn't have a very big role, but it feels nice to have him there. He has had some busy years paying Poirot, trying to make the boring Space Force a little bit more interesting, helping out in the terror of Bird Box (with Sandra Bullock), and in this movie, playing the role of the leaders of FBI in the USA.

We also meet Michael Douglas who is a good friend of Alice, but also her former boss. And I almost forgot, Orlando Bloom is also playing a part in the movie. You know, the young and handsome guy from The Lord of the Rings. Well, he has aged a bit since then, and he actually reminded me more of Antonio Banderas the way he looked in this movie.

Action and a quite high pace

As I watched Unlocked on Netflix, I had a wonderful time. I love meaningless movies such as this one, with a quite normal plot, but still with action, some adrenaline, and some nice twists. Towards the end, I actually had the 24-feeling. If you have ever seen a season of 24 with Kiefer Sutherland, you know what I mean... always in a rush to stop a bomb, and with much happening and quite a lot of drama.

Noomi Rapace is doing a good job in the movie. If you don't know her, then you should watch the three Swedish movies in the Millenium series named The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. They made a Hollywood version of the same series, but it cannot be compared to the original Swedish series. She was also playing in the most recent season of Jack Ryan on Amazon, another TV series that I greatly enjoy.

If you like meaningless action, this is great!

Once again, this is not a fantastic movie with a special story. But, if you want adrenaline and action, this will do you very well. I had a great time.

    Score: 8/10

I hope you have enjoyed the review. But, I would love to hear your thoughts about Unlocked. Have you seen it? Did you like it? Or did you just find it to be meaningless and not entertaining? I would love to hear your thoughts!

    Where to watch Unlocked?

You will for sure find it in your local Apple Store or Google Play Store. You can also find it on Netflix in countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Hungary, Mexico, Netherlands, Sweden, South Korea, and many others.
