¡Hola amigos! Hoy les vengo a compartir mi reseña acerca de la película Nosotros, me habían salido varias propagandas y me llamaba la atención el suspenso de la trama. Esta actriz muy destacada en su desenvolvimiento y de verdad tiene una piel envidiable en su rostro si me permiten comentarlo. No comento todas las series y películas que miro y esta me resulto de mucho suspenso y tensión.

Hello friends! Today I'm sharing my review of the movie Us. I'd seen several ads for it and the suspenseful plot caught my attention. This actress is outstanding in her performance, and she truly has enviable skin, if I may say so. I don't review every series and movie I watch, but this one was incredibly suspenseful and tense.

Adelaide Thomas, es una niña, que se encuentra junto a sus padres, Rayne y Russel Thomas, en un parque de atracciones en Santa Cruz, California. Adelaide Thomas is a young girl who is with her parents, Rayne and Russell Thomas, at an amusement park in Santa Cruz, California. Adelaide Wilson ya creció y ahora es una mujer que vuelve al hogar de su infancia en la playa junto a su marido, Gabe, y sus dos hijos, para unas vacaciones de verano. La película avanza lentamente presentándonos parte de la historia del pasado de Adelaide.

Su tranquilidad se interrumpe cuando cae la noche y la familia observa la figura de cuatro personas tomadas de la mano en la entrada de la vivienda, resultando ser (dobles exactos de la familia), su intención después de someter a la familia, el reemplazarlos.

Es una familia que se defiende de un enemigo que resulta tan insólito e inesperado. Descubren que estos dobles están en todas partes, todo el mundo tiene uno. Adelaide Wilson has grown up and is now a woman who returns to her childhood home on the beach with her husband, Gabe, and their two children for a summer vacation. The film unfolds slowly, revealing parts of Adelaide's past.

Their tranquility is shattered as night falls and the family notices four figures holding hands at the entrance to the house. These figures turn out to be exact doubles of the family, their intention after subduing them, to replace them.

It is a family defending themselves against an enemy that seems so unusual and unexpected. They discover that these doubles are everywhere; everyone has one. And the string of deaths they encounter on the way to the beach, which they believe is the origin of it all, comes after Adelaide recounts her childhood memory to her husband.

Las tijeras me resultan bastante aterradoras como arma y las entendemos como la forma de cortar el vinculo entre dos seres iguales. Vemos esta desigualdad social y el privilegio de unos sobre los otros, con el deseo de salir de la oscuridad.

I can't tell you the final result, although halfway through I told my son, "There's been a change here, and now I don't know who's who."

So I can tell you that it was quite entertaining and had some very suspenseful parts.

What I took away from this film, from what I understood: It's strange sometimes to discover that our worst enemy is often ourselves. Scissors are quite terrifying as a weapon, and we understand them as a way to sever the bond between two equals. We see this social inequality and the privilege of some over others, with the desire to emerge from the darkness.

Nota aparte tuve que buscar información para complementar lo que no entendí de la película, quería comprender quien creo estos clones; el gobierno para controlar y manipular a la población, por supuesto el experimento falló. Los clones fueron abandonados durante mucho tiempo y ellos hacían lo mismo que sus originales arriba. Los clones sobrevivieron con carne cruda de conejo. As an aside, I had to look up some information to fill in the gaps in my understanding of the film. I wanted to understand who created these clones; the government, to control and manipulate the population. Of course, the experiment failed. The clones were abandoned for a long time, and they did the same things as their originals above ground. The clones survived on raw rabbit meat. When the clones discovered that Red (Adelaide) was "different," they allowed themselves to be organized and went to the surface with the idea of revenge.

I remember seeing the trailer of this movie sometime last year and it looked like something I'd like. But you know when you see something you'd like but because you're not one to download movies on a whim, you save it for later and go ahead to forget, that was what happened with this movie I'm about to review, that led to my watching it just yesterday, even after all the months I've known about it.

Yesterday, the movie Us aired on my Tv and what better way to watch horror movies than at night? So, when I came across it last night, I stayed to watch it. I won't say it was completely a waste of time since most of the time spent viewing was worth it but it could have been better.

Us is a 2019 psychological horror movie directed by Jordan Peele. It stars Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, Shahadi Wright Joseph and Evan Alex as the main characters. It follows the story of a family on a vacation. At night in their vacation house, when they're about to retire to bed, there's a power outage. The mother looks out the window to see an outline of four people who look exactly like every member of her family standing outside the property. Doppelgangers. An experience from her past makes her more terrified than the other members of the family. The father decides to go check why they're there but he is suddenly rewarded with the people dispersing into the bushes nearby and breaking into their house. This marks the beginning of a torturous and fearsome experience through the night.

You know when something goes smoothly and you're about to give it a 5 star rating, but at that moment, they go ahead to do something very stupid that takes them down to a 1 or if you're generous enough, you give them 2 stars, that is just my perfect description of this movie. I enjoyed it a lot from the beginning but the ending was too messed up for me to even know what to say about the movie.

Reviewing the movie now, reminds me of so many questions that were in my mind to ask the director or the writer. Did making it end that way really seem like the right thing to do? And if everything was messed up from the beginning, why then did the supposed villain complicate things by saying different things at the beginning? Or was the movie actually written by two different people? Maybe the person that wrote the ending only skimmed through the expanse of the movie and wanted to come up with a plot twist by all means. This movie actually had the potential to be a great one but like many horror movies of it's kind, it went ahead to be a flop in it's last few minutes.

I actually loved the acting in this movie. The main characters did a good job with the acting and they made my screentime worth it. Lupita's acting was the one I liked the most. She did so well with both characters she played and it was satisfying to watch. The idea of the shadows coming to haunt their owners because they were forced to live through decisions made by their owners was creepy enough to pass as the plot for a horror movie. And that was one of the things that made the movie appealing to me. It had a simple and complex plot at the same time.

I can't say anything for the character development in this movie because there really was none. But the suspense in this movie was well played and since that's an essential trait for movies of the horror genre, it worked for me. I also liked that this movie dealt with more actions than words. That mattered a great deal because after all, we were dealing with shadows. This movie had the potential to be better but because the overall idea was great. But the script was poorly written and that was a huge bummer for me.

I'll rate this movie a 3/10. It was a disappointing watch. About recommending it, if you're someone that watches movies for watching sake and you don't mind if nothing makes sense, be my guest and watch this. You might find it enjoyable. But if you're looking for a well-written horror movie, this might not be one for you.

El terror fue parte de mi noche, me adentré en la película Nosotros, escrita y dirigida por Jordan Peele, el mismo de Get out, con la cual debutó y ganó el Óscar por mejor guion, lo que nos ratifica sus calidades como realizador, ya no caben dudas, que es un renovador de este género. En esta ocasión, estamos ante una trama llena de simbolismos, con toques de humor negro y escenas perturbadoras. Peele insiste en abordar el trasfondo social político para dejar muy claro cuál es su posición al respecto.

Argumento

Adelaide Wilson cuando era niña se extravió en el salón de los espejos en una feria en Santa Cruz, allí tuvo un singular encuentro que la traumatizó. Ya adulta logra formalizar una familia (Gabe, su esposo y sus dos hijos Zora y Jason) y se va de vacaciones con ellos a ese mismo lugar. Una noche, tienen la visita inesperada de cuatro personas uniformadas, quiénes están afuera de su casa con las manos enlazadas, de forma amenazante. Los intrusos invaden su hogar, al detallarlos, se dan cuenta que están siendo intimidados y atacados por sus dobles, una versión maléfica de sí mismos con ligeros cambios físicos. Allí comienza una carrera por la supervivencia.

Actuaciones destacadas

La mejor actuación del film es la de Lupita Nyong’o, quién se destaca con su doble actuación perturbadora. Es una madre protectora y una psicópata desconfiada y rencorosa. En los close up de su rostro, sus expresiones eran escalofriantes, realmente parecía una demente. El argumento se centra en ella como protagonista, a pesar de que toda la familia y los habitantes del pueblo Santa Cruz tienen dobles.

El papel del esposo (Gabe) es lo opuesto, en todo momento, veremos a un Winston Duke maravillosamente relajado, se puede decir que es apático y pasa desapercibido, no aporta un gran significado a la trama, pese a que intenta proteger a su familia pues los ama. El actor cumple con todas esas características.

Featured Performances

The best performance in the film is that of Lupita Nyong'o, who stands out with her disturbing double performance. She is a protective mother and a suspicious and spiteful psychopath. In the close ups of her face, her expressions were chilling, she really looked insane. The argument focuses on her as the protagonist, despite the fact that the entire family and the inhabitants of the town of Santa Cruz have doubles.

The role of the husband (Gabe) is the opposite, at all times, we will see a wonderfully relaxed Winston Duke, it can be said that he is apathetic and goes unnoticed, he does not add much meaning to the plot, despite the fact that he tries to protect his family because he loves them. En este apartado, felicito a la banda sonora de Michael Abels, pues sus melodías aterradoras eran cónsonas con la atmósfera inquietante de la película. Asimismo, el trabajo de dirección y fotografía (Mike Gioulakis) hace que vivamos el terror de los protagonistas, haciendo gala de los recursos visuales, el juego de las luces y sombras está muy bien ejecutado. Igualmente, me gustó el enfoque del plano-contraplano en las escenas que cada actor debía interpretar a su gemelo.

El otro yo

Con este tema, el director nos quiere mostrar que todas las personas tienen su lado siniestro, un reflejo perverso que ofrece la peor versión de nosotros y que la sociedad puede sacar a relucir con relativa facilidad. Visto de este modo, somos nuestros enemigos más álgidos. Los clones han sido creados para controlar a los humanos y exponer que son seres imperfectos.

Simbolismos

En este apartado esbozaré los emblemas más representativos desde mi perspectiva, ya que hay bastantes en toda la trama.

Conejos

En la película veremos muchos conejos blancos en jaulas, nos daremos cuenta que estos animales fueron uno de los primeros en ser clonados. Por lo que la experimentación con ellos pudo dar pistas para intentarlo con los humanos. Además, los conejos servían de alimento para los clones, estos se los comían vivos.

Jeremías 11:11

«Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí yo traigo sobre ellos mal del que no podrán salir; y clamarán a mí, y no los oiré. » Jeremías 11:11

La alusión a este pasaje bíblico es porque Jeremías habla sobre el castigo divino, es imposible escapar de la ira de Dios. Los dobles vendrán a vengarse pues no se les da su lugar en la sociedad, fueron abandonados en los túneles subterráneos como basura desechable puesto que el experimento fracasó. Los clones exhiben que nada en la superficie funciona bien y que los humanos se interesan solo por las riquezas materiales y el bienestar que genera el dinero.

Asimismo, se pudo apreciar que el número 11 aparece con frecuencia, haciendo alusión a la idea de duplicidad. Luego, entenderemos esta pista que se nos ha dejado durante todo el metraje. Los gemelos vendrán a adueñarse de la cotidianidad, ya no quieren pertenecer a las sombras. Nosotros se escuda en una clásica home invasion, es una película de angustia y violencia, así como también funciona como una crítica a una sociedad insana. El reflejo de las barreras entre las clases y los grupos marginados que son escondidos para que no sean símbolo de pobreza y miseria. La actuación de los personajes no es destacable, excepto las dos que mencioné anteriormente. Lo que más mérito tiene es que Jordan Peele trae un aporte único y una propuesta refrescante al género de terror y suspenso.

Esta película tiene matices desconcertantes a lo largo de su desarrollo. Por lo que hay que reconocer que existen fallos en su guion, pero lo misterioso e inexplicable puede resultar atractivo. Es claro que no estamos ante un film de terror tradicional, pues hay dosis de humor que borran todo atisbo de miedo, lo cual me parece un desacierto. Hasta donde puedo interpretar, eso está realizado de forma intencional para crear una atmósfera paralela y capturar la atención de los espectadores. Lo más sorprendente fue el final, quizás un tanto enrevesado, pero que ayudó a desentramar muchos detalles sueltos que iban quedando. En fin, en Nosotros tenemos algunos aspectos positivos que te pueden dar un rato de entretenimiento.

Final thoughts

Nosotros hides behind a classic home invasion, it is a film of anguish and violence, as well as a critique of an insane society. The reflection of the barriers between classes and marginalized groups that are hidden so that they are not a symbol of poverty and misery. The performance of the characters is not remarkable, except for the two that I mentioned above. What merits the most is that Jordan Peele brings a unique contribution and a refreshing proposal to the horror and suspense genre.

This film has puzzling nuances throughout its development. So it must be recognized that there are flaws in his script, but the mysterious and inexplicable can be attractive. It is clear that this is not a traditional horror film, since there are doses of humor that erase any hint of fear, which seems to me to be a mistake. As far as I can tell, that is intentionally done to create a parallel atmosphere and capture the attention of the viewers. The most surprising thing was the ending, perhaps a bit convoluted, but it helped unravel many loose details that were left behind. In short, in Us we have some positive aspects that can give you some entertainment.

¿Cuántas veces te has mirado al espejo y pensando si el que esta del otro lado podría ser tu gemelo malvado? Muchas veces hemos pensado en que tal vez podríamos tener vidas alternas de nosotros mismos, por ejemplo, siendo del sexo opuesto, presidentes, vagabundos, artistas, millonarios o cualquier otra cosa opuesta a lo que en realidad somos.

¿How many times have you looked in the mirror and wondered if the one on the other side could be your evil twin? Many times we have thought that maybe we could have altérnate lives of ourselves, for example, being of the opposite sex, presidents, hobos, artists, millionaires or anything else opposite to what we really are.

Hoy les hablaré de una película que aborda específicamente esa doble vida, una vida alterna que se tiene donde no siempre es tan lindo o interesante, donde podría considerarse ser esclavo del propio tiempo o espacio.

En definitiva la película esta llena de simbolismos y referencias, puede tornarse algo compleja, pero si después de verla decides investigar un poco, entenderás mejor la trama. 💬 Отже, за сюжетом, на старті фільму ми бачимо сім'ю з дитиною - дівчинкою. Вони гуляють у парку розваг, і поки мама відлучилась до туалету, а тато грав в якомусь тирі, дочка відійшла до якоїсь кімнати-квесту, в якій було купа дзеркал. Там вона побачила в дзеркалі себе, але то була інша дитина, просто ідентична за виглядом. Тут сюжет перескакує у майбутнє, і тепер ми спостерігаємо за сім'єю з двома дітьми: донькою і сином. Поступово ми розуміємо, що мама - це та дівчинка, яка колись нажахалася своєї копії і нібито дуже довго дитиною після цього не розмовляла. Тепер у цієї жінки підвищена тривожність, і коли сім'я приїхала відпочивати до колишнього будинку бабусі і поїхала на той пляж, поблизу якого був парк розваг, ця мама дуже боялася туди їхати. І ось на цьому етапі спокійність фільму закінчується і починається трилер. Адже одного вечора на ганку того будинку сім'я побачить незваних гостей, і виявиться що ті люди - їх копії...

What's the most common thing in almost every horror film? The answer is- They will do whatever they are told not to do, hahaha. If there is rumour that a place is not good don't go there and they will obviously go there. Actually that's why the story progresses. Hehehe, It was a part of fun, leave it.

So the movie I am going to talk about is US(2019) which is an American horror film. This one is directed by Jordan Peele who is also the director of another amazing film Get Out i had watched and enjoyed that too. If you watch both of them then you will find some similarities. I may write about that in this post.

The movie starts from the past(1986) where a young girl named Adelaide was visiting a fair in Santa Cruz Beach and somehow got detached from her parents for just 15 minutes and entered a mirror house where she met with her doppelganger. Nothing much happened or showed at that scene. Later they found that she wasn't talking at all. Maybe she got frightened by that incident? In the present scenes we see Adelaide as an adult with her husband Gabe and two children. They go for their summer vacation on the same beach. That's where the story gets interesting.

Well, the first 30 minutes of the movie was pretty slow to me but after that when the movie moves into the main part then you will obviously stick with the story. We see a family of doppelgangers at their house and their motive is to kill the whole family and take their place in this world. In a thought I got a feel of zombie movies, where zombies are chasing humans to kill and strengthen their existence. This one is to show their fight for survival. Well, this one has a different and pretty interesting plot.

Skip this paragraph if you don't want spoilers: In "Get Out'' we saw how research was done to transplant the brain from one person to another. Where the owner of the brain will be stuck in a sunken place. And in the one we saw something like that where doppelgangers were created. They could create the body and tether but they couldn’t create the soul and left that project abandoned. They were just following the movements of their doppelganger on the surface and they were living in the secret tunnels. So, both of these movies are related to scary research on humankind.

So whoever is fond of watching thriller and horror genre films should go for it. A different plot with a massive twist in the end. Twists are pretty obvious for most films to leave us clapping in the end. Hehehe. No matter how the whole movie was, you gotta clap in the end for some twists in most of the films. I do love to see them too.

Well another thing, if you go to research about the movie you would find way more than it was shown directly in the film.

1)The film begins with a title written,

"There are thousands of miles of tunnels beneath the United States ... Abandoned subway systems, unused service routes, and deserted mine shafts ... Many have no known purpose at all."

You would know what that is trying to mean after watching the movie if you haven’t read that spoiler part.
1. 1986 scene at the beach where the young girl sees a man holding a cardboard written jeremiah 11:11 and in the present date when she returns to that beach for vacation she sees the same man with the same cardboard but this time as a bloody corpse. This is related to the bible which I am not writing here.
1. All the doppelgangers were standing holding one another's hand and making chain like hands across America happened in 1986. We saw advertisements of that movement and even a t-shirt in that film too.
So in a whole i would like to say that the director wanted to show more than he could state in his film. If you watch the movie individually then you will like it and if you enjoy it with all of these background things i mentioned here then it becomes truly interesting. So go for it, I would love to rate all of this combined 8 out of 10.

Hola Hivers amantes de las películas y de las series, en esta ocasión les quiero comentar sobre una película que tiene ya un par de años desde su estreno pero confieso que quise comentarla desde que la vi por primera vez, sin embargo, en ese momento no tenía un lugar donde colocar ese contenido y mostrarlo a otras personas. Eso cambia en Hive, donde puedo comentar sobre diversos temas de mi interés, en este caso específico sobre películas. En esta particular ocasión les mostraré un breve resumen con un poco de análisis y al final una pequeña opinión sobre la película Us.

Esta es una película de género de terror y suspenso, su estreno se realizó en el 2019, el nombre original en inglés es Us, sin embargo en español se conoce como Nosotros. Uno de los aspectos llamativos de la película es que es producida y dirigida por Jordan Peele, un guionista y director que para el 2019 era reconocido principalmente por la producción de Get Out en el 2017, una película que dio mucho de qué hablar en toda la industria del cine, nominada a 3 premios oscar y consiguiendo la estatuilla en la categoría de mejor guion original.

Get Out se convertía así en la tarjeta de presentación de Jordan Peele, por lo cual Us tenía ese aspecto de que al igual que en Get Out, Jordan Peele podría sorprendernos con una buena trama y demostrar que puede producir buenas películas. Este fue definitivamente uno de los insensivos para que en el 2019 yo quisiera ver Us.

Resumen

Todo comienza con el comercial de Hand Across America, un evento en el cual pretendía la participación de gran número de ciudadanos norteamericanos pare crear una cadena humana de costa a costa, un evento que existió en la vida real y que es una pieza clave del rompecabezas dentro de la trama de la película.

Adelaide, una niña que se pierde en un parque de diversiones y entra en una típica casa de los espejos, en el lugar se encuentra con una niña exactamente igual a ella y esta le agrede tratando de ahorcarla, en lo que pienso que es una de las escenas con mayor suspenso y mucha sorpresa para el espectador. Adelaide queda con ese espantoso trauma del pasado y años después luego de ser madre y decidir con su familia pasar unas vacaciones en Santa Cruz, el mismo lugar donde ocurrió ese extraño hecho que le cambió la vida para siempre.

En el sitio comienzan a suceder cosas extrañas, en primer lugar un hombre con un trozo de cartón escrito con Jeremias 11:11 es herido por arma blanca, a los pocos minutos Jason, el hijo menor de Adelaide encuentra el mismo hombre en la playa en lo que parecía el comienzo de otro Hand Across America.

Cuando cae la noche sucede un gran apago, se tiene la sensación de que algo malo esta por ocurrir, desde las ventanas se notan movimientos y ruidos extraños, hasta que a lo lejos ven unas particulares siluetas de varias personas mirando fijamente la casa, curiosamente estas personas con un físico parecido al de la familia de Adelaide.

Luego de varias escenas de suspenso esas personas logran entrar en la propiedad y logramos ver una de las escenas claves para entender toda la trama de la película.

Clones:

No solo son personas parecidas, son clones idénticos a los originales, cada familiar tiene un clon, curiosamente el clon de Adelaide, llamada Red puede hablar y se comunica con Adelaide y su familia con una voz en la cual apenas se logra entender, sin embargo, explica lo sucedido y podemos encontrar pistas de lo que realmente ocurre.

Los clones son un proyecto del gobierno de Estados Unidos para tratar de controlar a la población, esto sucede porque los clones están conectados a sus individuos originales, lo que sienten, sus acciones y todo lo referente a su estilo de vida. El gobierno pudo clonar y copiar todo lo referente a los individuos originales, sin embargo, no pudieron copiar el alma, eso hizo que el proyecto se cerrara y dejaron a los clones encerrados en el subsuelo como simples animales.

La que pensamos que era realmente Adelaide resulta ser un clon, cuando tuvo ese evento traumático en la niñez el clon tomó su lugar, sus padres estaban preocupados debido a que luego de ese suceso Adelaide no era la misma, ni siquiera quería hablar, ahora sabemos que no sabía hablar, era el clon y eso explica porque Red si podía hablar.

Luego de luchar contra Red, Adelaide, o la que pensábamos que era la original pero que resultó ser el clon desde el principio puede rescatar a su hijo y subir a la superficie, notamos una gran cadena humana en la costa, formándose de los clones que asesinaron a sus contrapartes. La escena final donde la familia viaja en auto y Adelaide mira hacia atrás a hablar con su hijo es impactante, sobre todo viendo la expresión de Jason al mirar a su madre.

Durante su secuestro Jason descubrió que su madre era realmente el clon, la cual asesinó a la Adelaide original, ella fue la que tomo su lugar dentro de aquel cuarto de los espejos hace varios años atrás. Eso nos pone a pensar quien era el verdadero villano de toda la trama.

Breve Análisis

Vida del Clon

En la película podemos notar varias pistas de los que sucedía, sin embargo, notamos a uno de los clones que actúa como un ser humano normal, es Adelaide o la que pensábamos que era la verdadera, eso quiere decir que los demás clones pudiesen llevar una vida relativamente normal fuera del subsuelo, una teoría basada en la actitud de Adelaide.

Los clones están atados de alguna manera a su contraparte original, todo lo que hace el original en el mundo exterior podría copiarlo el clon en el subsuelo, sin embargo el clon tiene muchas limitaciones en cuanto al espacio, a pesar de ese aspecto se nota que están unidos en algún sentido espiritual. Las tijeras que vemos en muchas escenas y en portadas de la película representarían el corte de esa atadura entre el clon y el individuo original. Como un corte en las cuerdas de un titiritero, también el simbolismo de las tijeras puede tener algo que ver. After seeing the first Jordan Peele film entitled "Get Out" (which was actually really good) I was excited to see his sophomore approach to film-making. Contrary to the popular opinion on this movie, i found it to be boring and even annoying at times.

It's not that the story isn't good, because in a way it is good, plus once you have all the pieces to the puzzle (not gonna spoil that for ya) the story becomes even better. However, along the way there are aspects of the movie that are just too impractical for me to get on board with the entire thing.

I have to admit that the imagery of spooky demon kids always appeals to me, and this film does an excellent job of this especially at the hands of child actresses Madison Curry and Shahadi Wright Joseph.

The film is told in a "flashback" type sense where the main character Adelaide Wilson was traumatized as a kid when her parents were visiting a beach on her birthday many years ago. While I understand it is crucial to the story, the fact that they would ever go to this place intentionally, let alone without her ever telling her family about that horrible day in her youth, is kind of impractical.

I can't really say too much more because if you are to enjoy this movie, you have to go in blind, the trailer only reveals a bit about what the story is, and I believe that if you are even going to attempt to enjoy this film, you have to know almost nothing about the plot.

While the overall story of this film is pretty interesting and thought-provoking, i had a hard time digesting the story because of the silly situations that the family found themselves in and perhaps that was intentional on the part of Jordan Peele. If nothing else, I do enjoy how there is a running soundtrack of "I got 5 on it" by Luniz, which was one of my favorite hip hop songs from the 90's.

Don't get me wrong. This is a good movie. I just don't think it is as good as the critics make it out to be.

On a scale of "Urgh" to "Wowsers" I give US the overall rating of.....

La nueva apuesta del Director norteamericano

Jordan Peele escribió, dirigió y produjo Get Out, una cinta de terror que en 2.017 le valió nominaciones al Oscar en las categorías de Mejor Director, Mejor Película y Mejor guión original, en la cual obtuvo la estatuilla dorada. La cinta mostró algo diferente a los clichés del género y con una historia bastante particular se convirtió en un éxito de taquilla y ante la crítica. A mí me gustó bastante esa cinta y por ello, cuando me enteré de la aparición de una nueva película escrita, dirigida y producida por Peele, no dudé un segundo en verla.

Us cuenta la historia de Adelaide Wilson (Lupita Nyong'o), una mujer afroamericana que se va de vacaciones al hogar de su infancia en la costa norteamericana, junto a su familia: esposo, una hija y un hijo. Sin embargo, no está tranquila allí. Muchos menos cuando su esposo Gabe decide que vayan a la playa de Santa Cruz a compartir con unos amigos. Y es que esa ciudad y sobre todo la playa, constituyen el escenario de una traumática experiencia que vivió durante su niñez, de la cual empieza a encontrar señales. En el cuarto de espejos de una atracción de feria en los años ochenta, Adelaide se encontró con su doppelgänger. ¿Pudo tratarse de un simple reflejo en el cristal? No, porque cuando enfrentaba al espejo, su doble le daba la espalda; y al volverse ésta, su expresión era diferente. Estos juegos de espejos y reflejos, un cliché del género, me recordó varias cintas, pero sobre todo, una escena en la novela Afterdark de Haruki Murakami.

Las "sombras"

Esa noche, al volver a casa después de pasar el día en la playa, el servicio eléctrico se interrumpe (otro cliché) y entonces los Wilson descubren cuatro figuras tomadas de la mano que los observan de pie frente a su casa. Tras momentos de creciente tensión, los intrusos irrumpen en la vivienda y vemos, espantados igual que los Wilson, que se trata de ellos mismos. Bueno, no exactamente de ellos mismos. Como la Adelaide intrusa explica, son sus sombras. Unas sombras corpóreas que han vivido en túneles subterráneos, condenados a repetir las acciones de sus originales sobre la superficie, compartiendo sus almas, pero no sus cuerpos. La construcción de estas sombras fue bastante cuidada: la fisonomía es igual, pero la expresión en el rostro, el comportamiento, incluso la voz es diferente. De estos "rojos" (referidos así, debido al color de sus trajes) sólo Adelaide es capaz de hablar, aunque lo hace con una voz ronca, pausada, como si le costase hacerlo o su cuerpo no estuviera diseñado para ello. Los demás sólo emiten sonidos guturales y agresivos, como animales.

La "sombra" de Adelaide

Conforme avanza la cinta, nos enteramos de que los doppelgängers de los Wilson no son los únicos. Todos los ciudadanos del país han comenzado a ser perseguidos por sus dobles rojos. ¿Cómo surgieron estas sombras?¿qué quieren hacer? ¿qué es lo que buscan? y sobre todo ¿por qué? son preguntas que la película va respondiendo, poco a poco, en una serie de enfrentamientos llenos de miedo, tensión, violencia y sangre. La violencia general en el país recuerda a The purge, entre tantas otras; y la explicación "científica" evoca la cinta anterior de Peele, Get Out, en donde no había elementos sobrenaturales. Sin embargo, lo que le da mayor dimensión a este film, no está en la superficie, sino precisa y propiciamente en el fondo. Si al ver la cinta, sólo descubres una cacería humana, te estás perdiendo de lo más importante.

"We're Americans"

Us significa Nosotros, una clara referencia al tema de los doppelgänger y una invitación a reflexionar filosóficamene sobre cómo el peor enemigo del hombre es sí mismo, su lado más oscuro. Pero también Us encierra U.S., las siglas de United States, un país que actualmente vive el resurgir de una creciente oleada de violencia, xenofobia, racismo y condena de la desigualdad. Los pobres, los inmigrantes, los marginados, todos los que han vivido en las sombras por culpa de un sistema que no les brinda las oportunidades que tienen los poderosos, pueden decir, igual que la doble de Adelaide, con una macabra sonrisa en los labios: "We're americans". Se trata entonces de una película de terror que va más allá de los sustos y las escenas espeluznantes; es una ficción que pretende remover los cimientos de una nación, de una sociedad y exponerlos ante su propio rostro, el reflejo de su lado más oscuro.

Jordan Peele

Al igual que en su predecesora, Jordan Peele consigue en esta película un guión, una producción y una dirección impecables. El soundtrack original es capaz de erizar la piel con un coro de terroríficas voces y la película muestra una gran cantidad de referencias a los años ochenta: Jaws, Hands for America, los trajes rojos de los dobles y los guantes en sus manos, inspirados en Thriller de Michael Jackson, entre muchas otras. Pero para mí, lo más destacado de la cinta es la actuación de Lupita Nyong'o, quien interpreta a una traumada, asustada, fuerte y decidida Adelaide y a su doble aterrador, vengativo y violento.

Lupita Nyong'o

Es **una de las mejores actuaciones que he visto** dentro del género y si Daniel Kaluuya obtuvo una nominación al Oscar como Mejor actor principal por su papel en _Get Out_, este año la academia debería reconocer también el trabajo perfecto que Nyong'o consiguió en esta cinta y darle la oportunidad de que obtenga su segundo Oscar, tras el conseguido por su papel como actriz de reparto en _12 years a slave_. Para los fanáticos del terror que quieran ver algo distinto, les recomiendo esta cinta de **7/10** puntos en mi escala. Ahora bien, puede que eso que la diferencia de otros films del género no caiga en la gracia de los fanáticos del terror más básico, pero si prestan atención a los detalles, a lo que _se esconde_ por debajo de la trama, descubrirán una experiencia tan perturbadora e inquietante como sus escenas más espeluznantes.

Իր առաջին դեբյուտային ֆիլմում Ջորդան Փիլը ցույց տվեց, որ նա շատ խելացի եւ լավ կարդացած մարդ է, փաստորեն: Ռեժիսորը հեգնանքով օգտագործել էր սարսափելի ժանրը, մեր օրերում բավականին կարծրացած եւ անշնորհակալ էր, ներթափանցել ամերիկյան խնդիրները լիովին սարսափելի էր, բայց իսկապես երգիծական էր. փոքրամասնությունների յուրացման մասին մտավախությունները մշակվել են ճիշտ նշումով, ինչը «Օսկար» է բերել լավագույն սցենարի համար: Դուք կարող եք շատ բաների մասին խոսել առաջին նկարների արժանիքների (եւ, խոստովանել, թերություններ) մասին, բայց հաջողվել է կրկնել այն հաջողությունը: Դժվար չէ հասնել կինեմատիկ գագաթներին եւ շատ ավելի բարդ է դրանով ամրապնդվել:

Ինչ է, եթե լավը Տեսողության մեջ չկա վերջ. Այս հարցի պատասխանը, որը ձեւակերպված ում, տալիս է իր երկու ֆիլմերում, նույնիսկ գծերի միջեւ. Կյանք, պարոնայք, վավեր է միայն սեւերին:

›Film Review: 'Us' (2019): 'Blade Runner', with Zombies@janenightshade2647d
*80s kids and horror fans of all kinds will find much to like about the new Jordan Peele film, Us (2019), a dazzling cornucopia of pop culture and film references.*

Caution: Mild Spoilers Ahead.

Us (2019), directed, produced, and written by Jordan Peele of Get Out fame; starring Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o, Shahadi Wright Joseph, and Evan Alexander.

Us, the new Jordan Peele horror movie that debuted last week, is a highly entertaining film that’s replete with references to other movies/TV productions. Peele himself has said it was inspired by one of his favorite episodes of the original Twilight Zone, which is called Mirror Image.

Mirror Image stars Vera Miles as a single traveler who is stalked by her own doppelgänger in a deserted bus station. It is indeed a very creepy episode. Aside from Mirror Image, I counted references to Funny Games/The Strangers, Night of the Living Dead, Big, The Lost Boys, The Lady in White, The Goonies, and Home Alone. There may be even more; I saw it in the theater where there’s no rewind.

All of these references are fun to look for if you know your horror/sci-fi/80s movie history. All I can say is, Jordan Peele’s parents must have spent a shitload of time at Blockbuster back in the heyday of the VCR.

That said, the film to which Us owes its greatest debt is not Mirror Image or any of the others I mentioned, but Ridley Scotts’s seminal sci-fi masterpiece, Blade Runner (1982).

Us explores much of the same metaphysical territory, and includes several very pointed homages to the Ridley Scott film. In fact, Peele practically shouts this film’s Blade Runner lineage from the rooftops, and yet, of the four or five professional critics whose reviews I scanned after watching Us, not a single one caught the references. I guess a scene where a blonde replicant—oops I meant doppelgänger—does a superhumanly rapid series of handstands while attacking a major character just isn’t obvious enough for today’s film pundits. (And if that’s not enough, one of the main characters is named Zora, after the replicant that Deckard waxes in the shopping mall scene.)

But, I’m getting ahead of myself here. This film may be heavily informed by Blade Runner, but at the end of the day, it’s quite a different story and deserves to be judged on its own merits.

Winston Duke and Lupita Nyong'o, who starred together in the recent smash hit Black Panther, are reunited here, playing an upper-middle-class professional couple with two kids, who own a vacation house near Santa Cruz, California. Santa Cruz is famous for its 1920s-era beachside boardwalk amusement park, which is still in operation today. It’s also where the classic 80s vampire movie, The Lost Boys, was shot, which I suspect is why Peele set his story there.

As the film opens, there’s a flashback to Nyong'o's character, Adelaide, as a little girl of about eight, having a night out at the Santa Cruz boardwalk with her parents. The year is 1986, as we’ve seen previously on a TV news report about “Hands Across America”, a performance stunt to promote solutions to homelessness.

She wanders away from her inattentive dad while her mother’s in the restroom, and ends up in a spooky, cave-like attraction featuring tunnels and lots of mirrors. While in the tunnels, she encounters another child who looks exactly like her. This experience traumatizes Adelaide so much that she becomes autistic and needs therapy.

Back to the Present

Flash forward more than 30 years, and the recovered Adelaide is the fortyish wife of Gabe Wilson (Winston Duke) and mother of teenage Zora (Shahadi Wright Joseph) and ten-year-old Jason (Evan Alexander), who constantly wears a Halloween gorilla mask on top of his head. They are planning to spend their summer vacation at their beach house, something that Adelaide seems to dread. At the shores they are joined by their beach house neighbors, Josh and Kitty, who have two snotty, teenage twin daughters. Everyone seems to be having fun except Adelaide. She just can’t shake the memory of that awful night in the tunnel attraction.

After the day at the beach, the family spends the night inside playing games, when they hear a noise outside and investigate. A creepy-looking family of four is standing in the dark in their driveway, motionless. They don’t answer when Gabe tries to get them to leave. Then they attack, and the Funny Games begin.

Once inside the beach house, the invading family members reveal themselves as clone-like replicas of the Wilsons, although they have different hairstyles and are all dressed in identical red twill jumpsuits. In addition, the replica of Jason--a mentally handicapped boy named Pluto--wears a creepy, white-faced monkey mask, in imitation of Jason’s gorilla mask.

The doppelgänger who looks like Adelaide, known as Red, explains that they are “ tethered” to the people that they replicated. And they seek to become “untethered” by killing their counterparts. Significantly, Red is the only one who can talk -- the others shuffle around like the mindless, rage-filled zombies in a Romero film.

Back to the Boardwalk

After a lot of scary hide-and-seek and bloody fight scenes, the Wilsons escape to Josh and Kitty’s house, where they find that their neighbors have doppelgängers also, but they weren’t so lucky: they’re all dead. Their doppelgängers, unfortunately, are very much alive. More fight scenes and bloodshed follow, but eventually the Wilsons kill the other doppelgängers and flee, only to find out that all of Santa Cruz has been taken over by even more doppelgängers, who are in the process of killing their lookalike counterparts.

As they try to figure out what to do, their quest leads Adelaide back to the creepy tunnel attraction at the boardwalk that traumatized her as a child. This is where the film kind of falls apart. We see the explanation of how the doppelgängers came into being, and it’s embarassingly hackneyed. We also discover the significance of “Hands Across America,” which is more original and interesting. Nevertheless, this part of the film is sloppily done and strains the viewer’s credibility, beyond even the loose parameters set by people who watch this type of film (i.e., people like me).

At the end, however, Us comes roaring back with a jolting “twist” that I didn’t see coming, even with multiple clues and all the Blade Runner references. I feel like a supreme dope, but give props to Peele for pulling off the sucker-punch. Deckard says "hello."

I enjoy a good thriller. I'm not much for slashers, but I like thrillers. Us has a little of both. I recall being pleasantly surprised by Jordan Peele's first foray into this genre with his film Get Out. The film did very well, bringing home the Oscar for best screenplay. It was really a no-brainer that I was going to see his next film in this genre.

The Wilson's are not an atypical family. They have the same goofy quirks as any other family. Gabe (Winston Duke) is a caring father with a lot of inner child. Adelaide (Lupito Nyong'o) is the mom that has to keep dad in line at times. Zora (Shahadi Wright Joseph) is a typical phone-addicted teen. Jason (Evan Alex) is the weird little brother. A family vacation to Santa Cruz turns deadly as the shadows of Adelaide's past comes back to haunt.

I thought the concept of Us was intriguing, although there was a lot of back-story left untold. The film focused on the characters well, but felt sluggish at times. For a thriller, anything that isn't action should be tension-building. Extended periods of filler made this film feel tedious to me. I liked the characters and I enjoyed the concept, but felt it wasn't delivered with the same deft hand as Get Out. I somewhat figured out the big plot twist about two-thirds through the film, although the seed was planted early. This film had a lot of potential that whiffed a bit in the delivery.

Us had great casting. I really liked Nyong'o in what I would call the lead role. She was credible and strong. Yet she possessed the depth needed to carry this film. She had great chemistry with Duke, who was exceptional. His character was my favorite. I identified with him. Goofy, but sincere. Joseph and Alex were solid as the children. Tim Heidecker provided some comic relief as Gabe's friend. He was delightfully unlikable. I thought the cast held things together nicely.

Us doesn't quite reach "slasher" status in my book, but it comes close. This film is brutally violent. Deaths range from stabbing to getting chopped up in a rotating blade. There is plenty of blood, with a moderate gore factor. This is the type of film that is destined to give children nightmares. Particularly if they are prone to nightmares. Other than violence, the film has some strong language and a bit of alcohol consumption. The tension and violence are the prime drivers of an R rating from the MPAA. Run time is one hour 56 minutes.

I hoped that Us might come close to Get Out in terms of uniqueness. It was unique, but slow. I was a bit let down by this film. It is currently enjoying a rating close to Get Out but I suspect it will drop in the coming weeks. It is not a bad film. It is actually very interesting. There seemed to be some messaging peppered in, but some of it seemed a bit muddled. The slow pacing at times was my biggest complaint. But I did enjoy the film overall. 7/10.

Desde el año pasado se ha anunciado la realización de la nueva película de terror de Jordan Peelee, ya de por sí, es un director puesto en una estima muy alta por sus fans por la realización de ¡Huye!, película que se llevó la intriga y el corazón de todos los amantes del género.

Us, continúa con la misma dinámica, y ya podremos disfrutarla a partir de hoy 22 de marzo, que es la fecha oficial de su tan esperado estreno en las salas de cines. Hablemos un poco de ella y de lo que nos depara este pedazo de obra tan esperada y comentada por todos.

Us (Titulo en español: Nosotros) es una película de terror y suspenso estadounidense escrita y dirigida por Jordan Peelee. Está protagonizada por Lupita Nyong'o, actriz ganadora de un Oscar, Winston Duke, Elisabeth Moss y Tim Heidecker. La película fue producida por la compañía Blumhouse productions, conocida por ser una productora de películas de terror de bajo presupuesto, como: Paranormal Activity, Insidious y The Purge.

Sinospis: La película trata sobre una familia afroamericana que es amenazada por extraños visitantes que aparecen en la entrada de su casa, cuando están frente a ellos, se dan cuenta que aquellos peligrosos asaltantes son físicamente iguales a ellos. Ahora deberán enfrentarlos y asesinarlos antes de que ellos hagan lo mismo.

Según el director la historia no solo se centrará en una pareja afrodescendiente, sino que también, en una pareja blanca. El director ha caído en debates sobre si el género de la película es de Terror u Horror, aclarando en el mismo a través de Twitter que es una película del género Terror.

Este debate es icónico puesto que hacia bastante tiempo que no se hacía algo así.

Jordan Peele le dio al reparto mientras grababan diez películas de terror que "compartían un lenguaje común": Morir todavía (1991), El resplandor (1980), Babadook (2014), It Follows (2014), Dos hermanas (2003), Los pájaros (1963), Funny Games (1997), Martyrs (Mártires) (2008), Déjame entrar (2008) y El sexto sentido (1999).

Esta obra cinematográfica de verdad promete, ya hoy será su estreno y muchos estamos ansiosos. A continuación les dejo el tráiler de la película para que disfruten de este esbozo de lo que se avecina.

Us (2019) Movie Rating Contest

a Themovieplace original contest for the Steemit Community Participate, Win and Get Fun

Hello everyone, it is the time to announce the participants and the winners of the contest #125 and for those who want to participate in the new one which is the one with the #130. I recommend you to read the rules which are at the end of the article.

For the contest #130 which begins today, i chose the movie Us (2019), which is directed by Jordan Peele. Us (2019) had the first release date in 8 March at the South by Southwest Film Festival and the date which will count for our contest is 31 March. Let's take a look at some things that can help you to choose the correct rating for the contest :
- the directo is Jordan Peele who made the movie Get Out (2017)
- the cast contain names like Lupita Nyong'o, Elisabeth Moss, Anna Diop, Winston Duke and others
- the duration is 1h 56min

Rules:
- You nead to upvote the post and also one of the comments from what I will put under the post which will indicate the rating for which you have opted for the movie Us (2019) for 31 March.
