Streetart in Venezuela. Cesar Mata (es/en)

Hello, street art friends! As usual, I’ve got a new discovery for you, and this time I’m particularly proud because it’s a tribute to a living Venezuelan painter from my own city, Barquisimeto: Macario Colombo

As part of the ‘Cuidad Mural’ cultural and artistic project, which took place in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, the artist César Mata @ce_xart has created a beautiful and moving tribute to this painter, who has dedicated his life to art and lives in a humble home where he sketches and creates all his work.

As a curious aside, Macario decided never to leave his home again; he describes it as his ‘refuge of colours’, where the walls and corridors are filled with paintings he has created himself, forming a surrealist world.

The artist has placed the central focus of this work on Macario’s face, with that distinctive look in his eyes and his iconic long, white hair, which at first glance reminds me of the physicist Albert Einstein.

The birds beside him blend into this portrait to symbolise creative freedom and the identity of Venezuela; these birds are endemic to my city.

All in all, it’s wonderful to see a tribute paid whilst the artist is still alive, and even more so when it’s immortalised in a mural like this.

Wow! I loved it.

Wao! Me encantó
