A veces no quiero

Face It, Let It Go, Move On… -Results of the 7th Day Interactive Activity- The Power of Venezuela

*How difficult it can be, at times, to face very challenging or painful situations… The interactive activity in Seventh Day on Sunday, in which participants chose one of the images featured in the publication, reflected this: the release of painful emotions as they looked at an image—its details, colors, or the symbolism representing situations that are hard to experience.*

This exercise teaches us to recognize emotions, to release and let go—as an act of love—of the circumstances that cause us pain, with the determination to continue growing and experiencing new things, giving ourselves permission to feel whatever is appropriate given the circumstances, while never losing sight of the fact that this is part of our personal story. I am deeply grateful to everyone who participated in this activity for the trust they placed in the community by sharing their own stories and emotions.

Letting Go

The act of letting go is almost always associated with people—romantic relationships, friendships, or family ties—that, due to certain circumstances, end up causing anxiety or distress, as well as other emotions such as frustration, anger, and even fear, leading to low self-esteem.

That is why this involves an act of self-love: understanding that you must take a different path and let these negative emotions pass.

But this doesn’t only happen with people; right now, Venezuela is going through a time when its reality—which has persisted for nearly 30 years—has come to the forefront as a painful and seemingly insurmountable challenge.

This leads to irritability, sadness, and unease, and it disconnects you from your daily activities as you witness the many difficulties and problems we’ve faced.

Here, it’s not just about letting go of relationships and people, but also of situations we haven’t been able to resolve—precisely because we haven’t been able to, not because we didn’t want to.

And we need to move forward with what history is leading us to experience.

The important thing is to decide not to let circumstances affect you too much, since dealing with specific issues like household finances, food, and health care is already something that keeps us all constantly worried.

Issues like politics, injustice, elections, and the obvious power struggles are things we must set aside if there’s nothing we can do about them—since, for example, in Venezuela, all we can do is vote, and that vote will only be counted if there are mechanisms in place for a secure, open, and transparent count that doesn’t depend directly on us.

Thinking constantly about our inability to vote leads only to illness, and we must let go, move on…

Sometimes I don’t want to

But often we know this is true and yet we refuse to let go of a person, a bad memory, or a situation…

So we remain trapped in situations and relationships that hurt us, or we scroll through social media obsessively, day after day, because we choose not to let go and fill that time with other activities.

Dr. Itai Ivtzan, in his 2024 article “It’s Okay to Let Go” on psychologytoday.com, reminds us that this is an act of prevention and that we must acknowledge what we cannot control in order to be prepared for the potential frustration that comes from being tied down.

He asks us to practice mindfulness so we can respond appropriately to the circumstances we find ourselves in and let go of those events that didn’t turn out well.

And finally, he urges us to build or strengthen a support system—our support network—which should be there to help us let go of negative circumstances, but also to listen to us so we can release all those emotionally charged situations that only harm our physical and mental health.

Four Images, Four Sorrows (#Ecency Acknowledgements)

Of the images presented in the Interactive Activity on June 28**, all four depicted scenes that evoke, if not concern, then sorrow.

We have the image of an airplane taking off and a person walking away, which speak to us of goodbyes, of separation, of distance…

There is the image of an elderly person in the middle of the street picking something up, revealing their loneliness amid technology, on a deserted street with no apparent help in sight; moreover, it is in black and white, which left no room to choose or define the scene as positive.

Finally, something many of us at #Hive have experienced during this earthquake: the image of crumpled papers that suggest an intention to speak, to write, to express oneself—but which are never fully acted upon out of fear, respect, or because we still struggle to accept this reality.

These images were shared at the very moment when the earthquakes in Venezuela were barely being addressed by various international organizations—during the peak of the disaster and the greatest suffering.

Why? So that we could express, from the very beginning and little by little, the concern that has overwhelmed us all and that still causes us so much pain today.

That’s why I want to thank everyone who participated in this interactive activity and dared to describe the sadness of goodbyes, loneliness, and being separated from the people we love.

I believe it’s time for our community to be seen as part of our support network.

Because we’re all here to help each other grow together and build a better world from our hearts.

Letting go is hard and we need to fight ourselves to be able to do so or get over it. That or let time do the work for us...
