A few days ago, I saw this doodle on Instagram. I come across a lot of designs there that I’d love to try, especially during those little spare moments I barely have left, just to de-stress a bit. I’ve saved several of them, but I really liked this one, and even though my markers aren’t the best for this kind of thing, it really helped me focus and clear my mind.
The best markers for this type of drawing are alcohol-based ones, but I only have acrylic markers, and they run out pretty quickly when drawing the heart shape. To create this drawing, I drew a heart on a sheet of paper, cut it out, and then traced its shape onto different parts of another sheet. In my case, I made 8 and a half hearts.
My plan was to paint them all red, but my red marker ran out—I barely managed to paint a single heart red. It was pretty sad because it really would have looked nicer in just one color. In the end, I chose various shades of pink, purple, blue, and orange.
Then, using a black marker, draw vertical and horizontal waves.
Then we add details to each corner, shaping them into ovals of varying thicknesses; it ends up looking like a really cool but strange shape-.
Then we add volume with shading. We use colors similar to the base colors, but a little darker, and that’s how we create the shadows around the black lines. We also add shadows to the white parts of the leaf; in this case, I used a fairly light gray. From a distance, it looks really cool—it looks 3D. Although I feel like it could have turned out much better-.
