Accidentally Discovering a Secret Study Spot in Turin
This Italian city—currently the focus of some protests, mainly by students, but which ultimately affect the rest of society—has a character worth sharing and exploring.
Although I’d say it’s very “concrete-heavy”—if that term even applies here—it’s a city whose administrators have found a way to strike a balance, as they’ve managed to take advantage of its main river to create spaces around it for socializing, sports, dining, and my personal favorite: the study area.

A standout in this area is the Parco del Valentino, which blends—almost playfully—bars, restaurants, and the study area. It offers some very quiet spots and others that are a bit more exposed to the city’s typical hustle and bustle.
Finally: The Secret Study Nook
Out of nowhere, as I was walking along, I suddenly spotted a sign that definitely caught my eye, so I went over and followed the path… It led to nothing more and nothing less than a very quiet bar where everyone was reading. When I saw this, I turned back to read the sign posted by the entrance, and sure enough, it was a study area.
I thought it was original, wholesome, and relaxed. I think ideas like this demystify studying—they take it from something rigid and structured and turn it into something relaxed and fun.
Me pareció original, saludable, relajado.
A bit more about Valentino’s Park
It is primarily a linear park, though it is spacious enough to help dampen noise and even pollution.
This green space is well-maintained, which sets it apart from parts of Turin that are still in the process of being restored from neglect.
The view of the river from the park, along with the mountains, is truly beautiful, and the experience is markedly different when you gaze at this same landscape surrounded by that dazzling greenery compared to when you view it from an area that has not yet been restored.
I also really enjoyed sipping an Aperol served in a plastic cup at the Parco del Valentino. While everywhere else it’s served as practically a luxury cocktail, there it was simply the quintessential Italian aperitif—unpretentious, unassuming… Natural, spontaneous.
There’s a real sense of peace on this side of the city, and it lets you immerse yourself in a landscape very different from what Turin usually offers. I think for those who live there, it must feel similar to the joy of going to the beach for people who live on the coast.
Of course, if you visit Turin, I highly recommend that you don't miss out on visiting this park. You can walk there from anywhere in the city center, and in fact, that's a wonderful way to explore the city.
