Silly Little Cartoon Frog - 1 hour Daily Painting
Well its been a week.
Bushfires
Its been a busy week. between dancing engagements, being away, gardening and bushfires. Then finally today i got around to doing this little quick one hour piece.
Before i get into the painting, Its been a pretty hot week here in Queensland. Hot and windy. Combine that with no rain in months and what do you get --> Bush fires!!!
On Tuesday night i was sitting in the office and stood up and went... "Oh no" as i moved t the front door i could SEE what i was just smelling as the smoke was settling in outside. We had not got an emergency alarm, and noticing it was windy i assume (correctly) that it was a few Km away and not next door. But the smoke was so thick. I simply could not get the camera to show the smoke and what i could smell. It was about 5-6km down the road. again it was across a main highway and we were all safe. but yuck... the smell.
Down the way and up the way were more fires. The poor firefighters had a bit of a rough week. Thankfully they have simmered down tonight and there is very little lighting up the qld fires emergency board. Thank goodness.
Above you can see the one from last week and this week. including the little daily painting i did of the one the other week.
in ballet news
Only briefly. - My littlest dancer won the age aggregate at the dancing comps out in Gatton. which was amazing... except we had to travel back again down the yucky highway down for the award ceremony. I hate that highway. lots of dickhead drivers and only two lanes. We passed all the bush fires from 3 weeks ago again. The landscape was black, right to the highway.
Now into the painting
As you all know by now... i do small daily paintings. the idea is that the painting is finished in about 1 hour. Less if i can manage it and i only go over 1 hour if i am totally in love... lol... what ever it is stands and gets posted.
today i decided to do something a little different. its sort of a kids cartoon frog. Green and purple seemed like a winning combination.
i started with the usual burnt sienna underneath to warm the canvas
i made the purple with a mix, ultramarine and a red. and then added some dioxazine and magenta. adding more dioxazine on the right and magenta in the left.
foreground was the same mix with more magenta and yellow to brighten it up a little
The frog was simple. blue and yellow. a tad of white and a little raw umber in places.
the eyes were burnt umber and ultramarine. not black
it didn't take long about 1 hour or a little less as i was back and forward from the lounge yelling at kids who were not behaving. Eye rolls
mini painting
as is standard i used the left over paint to paint a little mini. i don't like this one.. but there you go.. these take about 2 mins to do... and its just put the paint on the little canvas and photograph them together. No idea why i do it... its just playing with the left over paint. That's basically it.
final thoughts
anyway i guess i had better get back to the school holidays. I need to make a run into town to grab some more mini canvas, and some more supplies for making stickers and bookmarks. So i shall head off and get that done. IF i can wake my children who have decided they Like sleeping in.
see you next time
HERE ARE SOME OF MY RECENT DAILY PAINTINGS
Yes i really do need to change out some of the paintings here to the ones from the last month. I have just been a tad lazy. Ill get there. However i DO like these ones... so i guess that is still ok
