THE BUSY WEEKEND - and a quick painting of an avocado
So this last 5 days or so since i last posted has been rather a busy one. Much to do. We have had the end of the school term here in good ole Queensland. which has snuck up rather fast.
Lots of afterschool activities as well as lots of IN school activities. so i have been helping with our school ball games carnivals and things like that.
THEN we get the dance weekend. its solo competition weekend. so My littlest dancer had her solos out in Gatton this Saturday. Its a big drive out there, and we past all the burnt countryside from the big fires out that way last week. it was weird as the burnt bush land went RIGHT UP to the highway. like the posts next to the highway were all burnt. No photos... as... well i was driving... :-)
She did amazing and came home with THREE FIRST places, ONE THIRD place and ONE SECOND place. so that was excellent. but it was nice to see them all being supportive and happy when each other won. cheering each other on from the sidelines.
Ive also done some planing int he GARDEN. so a few things int here too.. so its been a busy ole. day.
PAINTING
So with this all in mind i have had very little time to get into painting. I avhe sat down a few times to find a subject, and nothing has really grabbed my attention, and i have not painted it at all. mostly taken longer to choose the subject that it would have to have painted it in the first place.
the aim of these painting IS TO BE SHORT. so all the paintings that i do are ususually completed in 1 hour give or take. Mostly as that means i can't fuck about too much. and whatever i get at the end is what i end up with.
anyway this morning, sunday, brilliant sunshine and i was outside and decided that avocado would have to do. So in i came and knocked this out.
METHOD
BURNT SIENNA UNDERPAINTING So i started with an underpainting to warm up the canvas and get rid of the white. its not supposed to be too fancy. just colour on the canvas
BACKGROUND - so i started with a usual colour - ultramarine and burnt umber with a TINY bit of a cad yellow light. (i changed this later on to be ultramarine, and red with a dash of white.)
I thought the all muted tones would work... and then it was just all a mess.
Avo flesh. White, yellow ochre, and increasing mix of ultramarine and lemon yellow.
foreground is just white and yellow ochre
shadow... needed the most work. it was too dark. and i have not fixed it properly, however... meh... i was out of time to fix it. i might go back later and do it... but i have not.
TIME TAKEN about 1 hour
