Would you be surprised if I told you there was an insane 38 games in the Little League World Series? That's a whole lotta baseball right there. I mean, I get tired going up stairs these days, can you imagine what goes into hosting close to 40 games in the span of a week or so. It can't be all bad though, while some of these kids peers are starting school across the country, they are just sitting and doing what they love the most. That's pretty perfect if you ask me.
After the massive range of games this past weekend, and the marathon 8 games on Friday due to the weather delays, we are back to four games a day as long as mother nature is kind. I've gotta say, hats off to the Latin America team from Nicaragua who despite having two of their players detained due to visa issues trying to get into the United States, they are still leading their side of the winners bracket.
They will be playing in game 29 tomorrow against Curacao.
Meanwhile, yesterday we started off with game 21 between Canada and Panama. Canada was able to keep their hopes alive knocking Panama out of the competition 3 to 2. That moves Canada forward to face off against Asia-Pacific today.
In game 22, we had the infamous team from the Southwest get knocked out of the competition 6 to 1 by the team from the Great Lakes. You should never sleep on those Great Lakes kids. We are tough ones with a lot of fight in us! You might remember, this Southwest team is the one that got to come to Williamsport after the team from Tulsa was caught cheating. There was an ensuing legal battle that was relatively short lived and led to the team that got knocked out yesterday punching their ticket.
It's a sad end to what was a fairytale story for this team.
Game 23 was another elimination game and it saw Japan send Europe-Africa packing back across the ocean. This one doesn't surprise me too much. I don't think Europe-Africa is really well known for baseball in general, but Japan is, so while I am surprised that Japan has found themselves in the elimination bracket, it doesn't surprise me that they beat Europe-Africa 3 to 2. If anything, I'm surprised E-A kept it so close.
Finally, in game 24 we had the Southeast region take down the Mid-Atlantic region 6 to 6 in what had to be a heart breaker of a game for those kids. I was actually watching part of that game last night before I went to bed. It kind of makes me wish I had stayed up and watched it all.
Japan is going to have a tough road ahead of them facing Mexico today, and I have a feeling Canada might have a slight advantage over Asia-Pacific.
I can't wait to see!
