Today is a bit different day in the Little League World Series. Four games per day has been the standard throughout the tournament, but usually, those four games all take place in the same part of the bracket. Either they all happen between teams in the upper part of the bracket, or between teams in the lower part of the elimination bracket. As I said though, today is a bit different, and after the elimination games that happened yesterday, today we have two games in the upper part of the bracket, and two more elimination games in the lower part.
I know it's crazy to hear, but today we are rolling forward with games 29, 30, 31, and 32. It kind of feels like just the other day we were starting with game 1 between Latin America and the Caribbean.
Speaking of Latin America, they are game 29 today as they face off against Curacao. To see who moves on to the quarterfinals as the favorite and which teams drops to the elimination bracket for one more chance to make it to the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, over in game 30 we have the Mountain region versus the Midwest region. Statistics say Mountain and Latin America both have the advantage in their games, but you just never know what might happen.
For example, I was a bit shocked to see that Japan took down Mexico 3 to 1 in their elimination game yesterday. This sends the Mexico team home and sets Japan up for a showdown today against Canada in Game 31. Speaking of Canada, they had a big 5 to 1 win over Asia-Pacific yesterday in game 27 to keep their hopes alive.
Over on the other side of the bracket, the Great Lakes took down Metro last night 5 to 2 in game 28 to set up a game 32 match up against the team from the Southeast. Despite their Game 2 loss against The Northwest, the Southeast team has been running through the elimination bracket like wildfire. They have racked up a massive 22 runs and given up only 9.
Though to be fair, the Great Lakes team has racked up 21 runs through the elimination bracket and only given up 3. This could end up being the best game of the day.
Today is the last day of four games. Tomorrow we will just have two elimination games before we take a day break and then prep for the quarterfinals on Saturday and the championship as well as the consolation third place game on Sunday.
