Greetings to everyone in the Lifestyle community. Today I’m stopping by to share another day in my life with you. This time, it’s about the weekly rehearsal of the Cerro Bolívar Choir. It’s one of my favorite moments of the week—getting dressed and packing my folder to head out and meet my friend and choirmate, Liusmer (who, by the way, appears in the cover photo), so we can go to where everyone gathers: the old civic center in Puerto Ordaz. There’s a hall there that fills with voices—sometimes singing, sometimes laughing (hahaha). It’s a wonderful, close-knit group, and many of them have been singing together for years, even though the choir took a hiatus. Now it’s back stronger than ever.
Saludos a todos en la comunidad de Lifestyle. El día de hoy me uno por aquí para compartir con ustedes un nuevo día en mi vida. En esta ocasión se trata del ensayo semanal de la Coral Cerro Bolívar. Es de mis momentos favoritos de la semana, poder vestirme y alistar mi carpeta para salir a encontrarme con mi amiga y compañera de coro, Liusmer (quién por cierto aparece en la imagen de portada) para ir hasta el lugar de encuentro de todos: el antiguo centro cívico de Puerto Ordaz. Allí se encuentra ese salón que se llena de voces que a veces cantan y a veces rien (jajaja). Es un grupo muy bonito, bastante fraternal y varios de ellos tienen años cantando juntos a pesar de que la Coral tuvo una pausa. El resurgir con más fuerza.
Today we were rehearsing a song that I think is pretty cool. It’s called “Apure en un viaje” by Genaro Prieto. It’s pretty fast-paced, so you have to keep an eye on the timing and know when the tenors and the soloist are singing so you can come in on time and make sure everything goes as it should. I have to admit that, even though I always study a lot before going to any rehearsal, this time I went in completely unprepared—I didn’t practice the song at all—and that, my friends, is a disaster for a choir. Individual practice is really important, since there are things that require time outside of group practice, and that’s how you identify your weaknesses and know what to improve. Plus, when working on songs like these, it’s very noticeable when one of the members makes a mistake, and that ruins everything. You have to be very attentive and know everything word for word.
So that’s how the whole rehearsal went—practicing the song here and there. Thanks to our teacher Proto and the time he invested in today’s rehearsal, we made significant progress on the song, even though many choir members are still learning it. This is a life lesson: never assume you know a certain number of songs, and always review the ones on the list that also deserve attention so we aren’t caught off guard. Hoy estuvimos ensayando una canción que me parece bastante chévere. Se llama "Apure en un viaje" de Genaro Prieto. Es bastante rápida, se tiene que estar pendiente del tiempo y de cuando cantan los tenores y el solista para poder entrar a tiempo y que todo vaya como debe ser. Debo confesar que, pese a que siempre estudio bastante antes de ir a cualquier ensayo, en esta ocasión fui con las manos en cero y es que no practique la canción para nada y eso amigos míos, es fatal para un coro. El trabajo individual es bastante importante, ya que hay cosas que requieren tiempo aparte del trabajo que se hace en grupo y uno sabe dónde están las debilidades y qué mejorar. Además cuando se trabajan canciones como estas, se nota mucho cuando alguno de los integrantes se equivoca y eso arruina todo. Hay que estar muy pendiente y saberse todo al pie de la letra.
Así que así se nos fue todo el ensayo practicando aquí y allá la canción. Gracias a nuestro profesor Proto y el tiempo que se invirtió hoy en el ensayo, la canción avanzó bastante a pesar de que muchos miembros del coro también la están aprendiendo. Esto es lección para la vida: no confiarse nunca de que uno se sabe tal cantidad de canciones y no revisar las que están en la lista y que también merecen atención para que no nos tomen desprevenidos.
