Greetings to everyone in the Music community. Today, I’m joining you to share a new musical moment. This is a very significant video—at least to me—because it captures my first performance with Canticum Merú. It was for a funeral mass held in memory of Mrs. Herminia Colina, who had passed away that March. She was a beloved figure, and the Rotary family asked the choir to attend and fill the ceremony with song. I felt it was crucial to recognize that, in a moment like that, singing with precision, beauty, and heart was a necessity. I mean that, with her and her family, friends, and acquaintances in mind, the expectation was for a performance that would honorably accompany the mass.
I remember being nervous that day. I didn't feel entirely ready because I was new to the group and, on top of that, I was dealing with a respiratory issue that was causing me a lot of distress. I spent nights crying and trying to calm my coughing fits until the treatment finally took effect. I had also imagined my first performance taking place in a different setting, but I’ve come to realize that the venue, the audience, and the repertoire don't matter as much as the fact that—whatever the occasion—you must always sing with your soul. No performance is more important than another. It was a moving experience that day; everyone was happy to hear us sing. That kind of impact is one of the beautiful things about singing. I’ll leave you with the video; you can spot me there with my black folder, following along with the song. Sending you all a big hug.
