Greetings to everyone in the Lifestyle community. Today I’m stopping by to share another day in my life with you. This time, it’s about my visit to the dentist. When I arrive in Valencia, I not only take the opportunity to spend time with my family and friends, but I also like to visit the doctors because prices here are much more affordable than in Puerto Ordaz. Even though we’re in the same country, things tend to be different from state to state. To give another example, power outages are practically nonexistent in Puerto Ordaz. Getting back to the main point, I asked a friend (who has gorgeous teeth) for her dentist’s contact number, and that’s how I ended up at the dental office you see in this post. It’s ironic because I lived on that very same block for 19 years and never had any work done there, and now that I’m so far away, I’m actually getting treatment. That’s life. I’ll keep you posted.

I went to see Dr. Trina Ortega, who is my friend’s dentist—and luckily for me, she was there that day and was able to see me. She examined me and found two molars with defective fillings. Those two teeth had been bothering me quite a bit for about a year—which is roughly how long it had been since I’d last seen a dentist. Those two molars had always needed resin fillings replaced, and it was time again, but since the last visit, I’d started to feel that something wasn’t right because they were causing me discomfort. As I said, I couldn’t leave without getting it taken care of, so I told her to go ahead. When he removed the first piece of composite, he found that the cavity had decay. It was disheartening because, thanks to the composite leaking, the decay had progressed without me even realizing it. Worse yet, both molars were in that condition.

It was almost reaching the pulp. A tooth has three layers: enamel, dentin, and pulp. If that had happened, I would have needed a root canal. I was in shock and started thinking about what would have happened if I hadn’t gone to the dentist. Luckily, that didn’t happen, and I decided to go with amalgam because, since these are the teeth that bear the brunt of chewing force, there would be no point in continuing to use composite resin. Better to go the old-school route: amalgam. It turned out pretty well, and I can breathe a sigh of relief now. A message for everyone: try to make time to visit the dentist—living without teeth is really a huge problem. And by the way, seeing the dental office reminded me of my days as a dental assistant.

Casi llegando a pulpa.
