STREET ART #276 – Even a small fishing village have some beautiful murals (Denmark)

When I was in Denmark in September, I went for a bike ride to the small town of Hals, located on Denmark's east coast at the entrance to the Limfjord. It is a small fishing town with a ferry connection across the fjord. I made the trip with my sister. Our plan was to cycle into the woods to find Thomas Dambo's troll. After seeing the troll, we stopped in the center of town for lunch. That was when we discovered that the town had acquired a number of new artworks.

The title is «Vingelys». Hard to translate, but it means something like «light on the wings». It is a title that fits the image. You can see how the light falls on the butterflies' wings. It is purely by chance that I was there when the sun was directly facing me. It is not possible to move closer to avoid the sun, but when I look at the image, the sun's rays strike the painting in a way that seems to add even more light to the butterfly wings behind the woman. It's located at the entrance to the church, but painted on the wall that belongs to a petrol station. The artist is Stine Hvid. I don't know anything about her, but quess she might be a local.

This mural featuring a man on a bicycle is titled "Uncle Jørgen" and is painted on the end wall of Hals Bicycle Rental. The subject—a man on a bike—is fitting, and the building is easily visible from a distance. I think the painted lady on the bench is a nice detail.

This beautiful fisherman is found at the harbor. He is dressed like most fishermen. It was not possible to get a photo from the front. If I had tried that, I would have fallen into the water. The mural is painted on a building only two meters from the waters edge. The artist is Jens Stentoft. He is not a familiar name to me. I was in Hals last year, but all of these are new works.

  • Muy bien elaborado💪

  • The sun hitting the mural straight on sounds like the kind of happy accident you could never plan, and it fits a piece called light on the wings perfectly.

Beautiful selection of StreetArt... I often have this problem with the sun right above the mural. But you did well on your photos. Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.

    Have a lovely day
