Hello, dear Ladies of Hive! I hope you're all doing great. This week, we have questions from @thekittygirl for the community contest, with topics related to the seasons of the year.
Temperate parts of the world typically experience four "seasons" of the year — spring, summer, autumn, and winter. But some parts of the world have a "dry season," a "rainy season," or "seasons" where there are frequent storms, extreme cold, extreme heat, El Niño, Harmattan, and so forth. Which is the most difficult season of the year for you? Why is it difficult, and what do you do to make it bearable?
The seasons I like the least are the ones when it’s really cold. It’s spring in my country right now, but we’re experiencing the El Niño phenomenon, and temperatures are lower than normal for this time of year—not only that, but it’s raining a lot. I live in Buenos Aires, and we’re hardly seeing any sun—the days are gray, damp, rainy, and cold. This is driving me a little crazy because I usually enjoy spring—getting together with my friends in a park to spend the day—but with weather like this, it’s impossible. And don’t even get me started on the lack of sunlight; the change in my mood is really noticeable.
Suffice it to say that every time a ray of sunshine peeks through, I drop everything I’m doing and rush outside to soak it up like there’s no tomorrow. It’s unbelievable. This wasn’t happening not too long ago; in previous years, things were always more pleasant. Not to mention the many provinces and cities that are completely flooded, with animals trying to survive as best they can because everything is overflowing. The situation is frustrating; honestly, I can’t wait for this weather pattern to go away. It’s supposedly forecast to last until the end of January—we’ll see. If that’s the case, maybe we’ll have a cooler summer than usual, which would be a relief, but I just hope the days get better and aren’t so gray.
I think that at another stage in my life, this weather would have been hard on me, but now I try to put up with it as best I can and have faith that nothing bad lasts forever. Besides, periods of drought and extreme heat aren't good either. But right now there's a clear imbalance, and I hope things get better soon.
If you live in an area of world where seasons are usually predicable and regular, do you like that stability, where weather usually follows expected patterns? Or do you like more variety, where weather is more changeable? Is there one season when you really thrive and you're the happiest?
As I mentioned in my other answer, the truth is that we tend to have a wider variety of climates, but they’re usually stable and predictable. Right now, everything’s turned upside down, to be honest. I’m usually happiest during periods with milder temperatures—not too cold, not too hot—when I can be comfortable without a coat and without needing to use the air conditioner. At this time of year, I still haven’t taken off my sweatshirts or jackets, whereas in other years by now I’d already be wearing a T-shirt and, maybe, a light jacket. The good thing is that we’re not using the heat; even though this house is a bit chilly, we try to put up with it and stay warm. If it comes down to personal preference, yes, I prefer more stable climates where everything is predictable.
Well, friends, that wraps up my thoughts on these topics. I hope you enjoyed it, and I invite all of you who are reading this to join in. Thank you for sticking with me this far and supporting my content. See you next time!
