Hello, Womentribe friends! I hope you're all doing great. In another of @syllem's inspiring posts, we come across a topic that invites us to reflect on stepping outside our comfort zone.
I’m someone who usually has a hard time dealing with change, and I’ll admit that sometimes I feel like going somewhere new or doing something different, but I don’t have anyone to do it with, and I don’t feel like going on my own. I have friends, but sometimes it’s hard for us to agree on things, and I know the plans I have in mind might not be to their liking. That frustrates me a little because I’m tired of doing things alone—I know independence is great, but often these kinds of activities are more fun with company. So I’m feeling that kind of discomfort—wanting to get out and do something, but at the same time feeling too lazy to do it.
Next weekend there’s an event about romance novels that I’d really like to attend. I don’t mind going alone, but the challenge is that it’s pretty far from where I live, and I’ve never been to that area, so I don’t know what it’ll be like. Also, even though it’s only a 2-hour trip (I’ve been checking travel routes), I have to take 3 different buses, and it’s a hassle that there isn’t a more direct route. I don’t know if it’s laziness—it’s more like a fear of walking alone in places I don’t know. I’m not afraid of getting lost either, because I’m very thorough about studying the streets and roads I’ll need to take. The good thing is that the event doesn’t end very late—it goes until 6 p.m. So that gives me more time to get around while it’s still light out, which makes me feel a little more confident.
And I don't know why I'm thinking that bad things might happen, hahaha. That's something I inherited from my mom, who always tends to assume the worst. Most likely, if I go, I'll have a great time, and it's good to step out of my comfort zone, so I'm really going to try to go. I think I'll see if I can find a small group to hang out with once I'm there so we can explore everything together—it's usually more fun that way. I think it’ll be a good experience, and positive things could come out of this meetup. It might even help me post related content on my Bookstagram and write about my experience here on Hive.
So, well, I hope to make up my mind about going in the next few days. The truth is, that’s what’s bothering me—I know I have to push myself to try new things and go to new places, and besides, I really want to go, which is good. But I’m a little scared to step outside my comfort zone. I know I might end up thinking that the trip will take a total of four hours—round trip, not counting waiting time—and I wonder if it’s really worth it instead of spending that time on some other task. But at the same time, I know these are just excuses I’m telling myself.
Although I’ve been to similar events before—where I went alone and ended up having a great time, and even chatted with strangers who were there for the same reason as me. The magic of these events is that everyone who goes there loves reading romance novels, so that gives us things in common even if we don’t know each other. Well, I guess I just wanted to share this with you, and even though it hasn’t happened yet and I don’t know what I’ll decide in the end, writing this made me realize that I have to stop being afraid and take those leaps I need to take toward what’s calling me. I hope to tell you later that I did go.
Well, friends, that wraps up my thoughts on this topic. I hope you enjoyed it, and I invite all of you who are reading this to join in. Thank you for sticking with me this far and supporting my content. See you next time!
