I keep setting goals for myself in the kitchen, challenging myself to try new recipes, and this week I decided to make French bread, which I had never made before. So, I looked for various recipes until I found one from , which I thought would turn out well.

I already had the ingredients at home, so all that was left to do was start cooking. It's worth noting that I didn't follow the recipe step by step; instead, I made it the way I usually prepare enriched dough breads.

Ingredientes (Ingredients)

  • 298 g de harina de trigo.
  • 166 g agua.
  • 15 g de azúcar.
  • 12 g de mantequilla.
  • 6 g de sal.
  • 5 g de levadura seca.
  • 298 g wheat flour.
  • 166 g water.
  • 15 g sugar.
  • 12 g butter.
  • 6 g salt.
  • 5 g dry yeast.

Preparación (How to make it)

I put the water, sugar, yeast, and a few tablespoons of flour in a bowl. I let it rest until a sponge formed.

After this time, I put the remaining flour, the sponge, the salt, and the rest of the water into the mixer to knead. Once the dough felt more unified, I added the butter and continued kneading until it passed the windowpane test; when stretched, it should be translucent without tearing.

Luego puedes estirarlo a tu gusto.

We let the dough rest for half an hour. Then we divided it into portions of the desired size; I got seven little rolls weighing 70 to 73 grams each. They are shaped into small balls, then flattened with a rolling pin leaving the top tip a bit thicker, and rolled up on themselves to form the bread. Afterwards, you can stretch it to your liking.

Once the breads were shaped, I let them rest for two hours. Then I made the characteristic cut typical of this French bread.

I put the bread in a preheated oven at 200 °C along with a small cup of water to create steam. They baked for 23 minutes, and at the 18-minute mark, I lowered the temperature to 180 °C. Keep in mind that the baking time and even the temperature depend on your oven; in this case, I think next time I will bake them at 180 °C.

This bread turns out with an amazing crumb. I know it's easier to go to a bakery to buy them, but for me, there is nothing more satisfying than making these recipes at home and having them turn out just like the ones from the bakery.

I hope you like it!
