MLB: Nada es igual..! [ESP/ENG] || OPINION

The ghost of last year's NLCS broom job by the Los Angeles Dodgers started looming over a packed American Family Field during yesterday’s ballgame. I mean, when you put a guy on the bump who throws absolute cheese—the fastest gas ever tracked—you expect him to completely shut down the opposing lineup. But things got rocky early in the matchup between the Brew Crew’s starter Jacob Misiorowski and Tarik Skubal, the two-time Cy Young winner getting the nod for the Blue Crew. The Dodgers have been capitalizing on opponent miscues all season long, taking the lead after Ohtani drew a free pass and Cuban slugger Andy Pages drove him in during the second frame, a frame where Jacob pumped 35 pitches to the dish, exposing the Dodger game plan: work the count and knock the starter out early. To make matters worse, a controversial balk became the ectoplasmic fuel that brought that ghost back to life.

But this isn't last year. This Brew Crew squad has another year of experience under their belt and won 103 games over the course of the 2026 campaign, so they weren't about to roll over. The ice-cold second baseman Brice Turang came alive in the bottom of the fourth, turning on a 95 MPH Skubal sinker and taking it deep over the centerfield wall to knot things up and start exorcising those past demons. To put it mildly, a big fly like that, right when things were looking bleak for Milwaukee, completely injected new life into the home dugout. From that moment on, the team locked in and the bats got going just like they did during the regular season, playing small ball to manufacture runs out of thin air. And they certainly pulled it off, in a game that was always going to be a tight affair, playing high-octane Caribbean-style baseball.

Bottom of the fifth and the team's babies get the job done for Milwaukee. Garrett Mitchell draws a free pass and rookie Cooper Pratt immediately follows with a textbook sacrifice bunt to move the runner into scoring position. The table is perfectly set for another rookie. And as providence would have it, he was Venezuelan. Luis Lara, the kid from San Felipe, stepped up to the dish with skipper Pat Murphy's ultimate trust. And he delivered the way only guys with ice in their veins can. I mean, he's standing in against Tarik Skubal and a squad that swept them out of October last year. None of that mattered as he laced a sharp RBI single to plate Mitchell from second, putting the Brew Crew ahead 2-1 and sending the home crowd into an absolute frenzy. From that point on, the bullpen slammed the door shut.

And it's true, the Brew Crew’s bullpen isn’t quite the Padres' pen, but it’s a mirror image. The Dodgers had to square off against a group of arms that had given up a microscopic single run over 23.2 postseason frames so far. Nothing doing, lights out for the Blue Crew. They could only muster two hits off Uribe, and that was all those unhittable arms allowed for the rest of the ballgame. Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts put it bluntly postgame: "We didn't hit," and that was exactly what a shell-shocked Dodgers squad lacked, scratching across just a solitary run. Nobody is saying the Boys in Blue are getting the broom, that's not happening. But what Los Angeles definitely realized is that they’re going to have to grind out every single at-bat if they want to move past a Milwaukee team that—with this W—has officially busted the ghosts of a not-so-distant past.

Feliz semana. Salud y saludos.
