Synopsis :
Amanda Beck is investigating the disappearance of a young boy, Neil Spencer, in Garretton, New Jersey.
In the past, other children had disappeared, and the culprit, Frank Carter, was arrested by Pete Willis, now retired. Carter is still serving his sentence in prison.
Meanwhile, Tom Kennedy and his son Jake move to Garretton because it is where Jake’s mother grew up. She recently died of cancer, and Tom hopes that a change of environment will help Jake move on and begin to heal.
Jake has an imaginary friend whom he confides in. He doesn’t particularly like the new house and doesn’t feel safe there.
He also struggles to make new friends at school and becomes increasingly withdrawn.
When Jake leaves in the middle of the night without telling anyone, a race against time begins. Every bit of help and experience in dealing with cases like this is desperately needed.
