Friday morning I was up just after 5AM and worked on my post but didn’t get it up. I stopped to eat and get ready before my #2 intern arrived at 8AM. My #1 intern was here also and I had something I wanted to show them.
Kodaslide viewer and ruined light socket
When I had been going through the old slides the day before, I had found one that particularly struck me. It was a winter day and my siblings and I were on the swing set. I was wrapped up well as it must have been cold, just my face showing.
So I got the slide and viewer out and put the slide in for them to look at. They soon figured out it was my siblings and I, and I asked them who the tall one in the dark snowsuit resembled. They kept saying that one looked familiar but couldn’t say who. My #1 intern was standing next to my #2 intern who was seated at the table. They wanted a hint so I said, “She’s sitting next to you.”
My #1 intern goes, “Oh my God!” But my #2 intern kept saying I can’t see it… In that photo, I looked so very like my #2 intern, particularly as she has no hair atm and had a hat on. I was about 5 or 6 years old in the photo.
So I took the viewer to put I some of the foliage ones and it exploded! The wires had broken off enough and short circuited. Sigh…
So later I spent all too much time trying to find replacement parts (don’t exist) or bulbs (expensive) or a used viewer I could afford.
We finally got started in the cellar.
I had a bunch of small crocks that needed washed up before storing. So she took them upstairs and got that done. While she was doing that, I found sections of fishing rod blanks and cut them to size to vent the coolers in storage.
When she came down, we moved the dead freezer (I’d decided to not mess with it any more) and brought over 2 shelving units. She got them washed up and we got them screwed to the wall. I started bringing stuff over to fill them up.
During all this, the hay man called and said he’d be out at 10AM with a load of hay for the barn. When 10AM rolled around and he didn’t show up, that’s when I spent time looking for a new viewer or parts while waiting for him.
Then the phone rings, and rings again, and I discover my credit card has been hacked. That’s finally sorted out and I’ll have a new one by Monday, I hope.
While I’m doing this, my #2 intern discovers she’s locked her keys in the car and has to call AAA to get the car open. So she’s waiting on them too.
We’d finally gone back to the cellar and the hay man calls and says he’ll be here at 11AM. So my #2 intern goes up and meets him and unloads the truck into the barn. AAA arrives and opens the car, and she leaves.
I worked loading the shelving until everything is in the freezer room. Then I start unloading the cellar area between the 2 rooms in the 1st addition. That had been filled to the ceiling when we were to try to fix the old water heater. That job never got done. But there were things I needed in the back of that mess, so I started cleaning it out.
In my many trips back and forth in the cellar, I got tired of the crap on the floors, so I started to sweep them up. We’d used the cellar vacuum and so I decided, once the crap was up, I’d vacuum all the areas I could reach. That made a lot of dust, so cough, cough, cough.
When I went to move the white shelving, it had a lot of old computer stuff on it. My #2 intern had carried all that out to the trash shed. But I found a lot more in the area I was clearing out between the rooms.
Once the vacuuming was done, I quit about 11:30AM to rest for an hour before my #3 helper arrived at 12:30PM. I had her vacuum the first floor and run an errand while I rested some more.
When she got back, I had her wash the inside of the fridge and then the outside of the 2 freezers from the other side of the cellar. I had found more crocks buried in the old cellar mess and she washed them up too.
Then she hauled the rest of the computer stuff up to the laundry room. I’ll have the helpers on Saturday get it in the trash shed.
I got the wood stove going at noon and then started the masonry heater around 5PM. It was cold and rainy all day, and would drop during the night.
The old cellar starting to empty out
I was so tired from up and down stairs and back and forth the length of the cellar all day! I rested a while then looked for a viewer and found one and bid on it, forgetting I didn’t have a working credit card. Sigh…
The sponge soaking it up
I made supper and got a shower and watched a movie until 9PM when I checked the fires and headed to bed.
On Saturday I’m hoping to have my 3 interns and my son’s friend to move that freezer to the barn and get the storm windows upstairs. I have to have them washed by Tuesday when I start the window washing marathon. I’m hoping to level the 3 remaining freezers as we forgot to do that. And I need them to move the file cabinets as I can’t open the drawers as the inverter is in the way.
Then in the afternoon I have to mow the yard. The oak leaves can’t get too deep or I can’t get them up with the mower. It’s going to be hard enough as it rained all day Friday.
