More Windows - October 21, 2026 @goldenoakfarm

A bath in the sun

On Wednesday morning I was up at 4:30AM as I had a lot to do before the window guy arrived at 8AM. Most of it was to clean and put back all the stuff taken from around or in the windows we’d managed to get done on Tuesday.

I had gotten most of 3 of the windows done, gotten a shower, and started taking apart the first office window when he got there. Then I had to train him on taking out old windows. Plus I hadn’t had time to clean out the other 2 big windows. All this slowed us down a lot.

Normally I can do 13 windows in a 4 hour day. Tuesday we got 10 done and didn’t finish the outside work due to shortened hours. On Wednesday we had to finish the outside work but it was on the north side of the house and it was cold Tuesday night. So I set a timer to remind me we had to go out at 11AM to finish outside.

We got 6 done inside in the office and then did the 2 outside ones. So only 8 done on Wednesday. These 2 were left for Thursday.

After he left, my back seized up. So I couldn’t get anything put back together. We had stopped and put the 6 we’d done back before we went outside. But there were still a lot of windows not put back together, making it hard to move around or use the dining room table.

My #2 intern arrived at 11:30AM and she went to town in the Big garden pulling out all the dead stuff. She first got the south end and its pumpkin mess done. The mulch hay guy had called to say he was bringing the last load of hay and it was going in the garden.

Then she worked her way up the east side and finally, cleaned out the middle sections and the north end.

She had a little time left so she started weeding around what was left. She left at 1:30PM.

I was in my chair having taken pain killers and the view out the west window around the pothos was lovely. The mulch hay guy called just before 3PM and said he couldn’t make it. That was fine with me, with my back a mess…

Actually, with the beautiful deep blue skies, sunny days, and the leaves still on the trees, every cleaned window was gorgeous.

The light coming in just seemed brighter, crisper from the clean windows.

I just sat in my chair until supper. Once that was done, I eventually got the wood stove going and headed to bed around 8:30PM.

The window guy is due at 8AM on Thursday, the last day for him. I have to try to get more windows put back together, and new ones taken apart. We will finish the office, go upstairs and get the big windows done up there, and then come downstairs and do the big windows in the living room and bedroom, I hope. That’s only 10 windows but I hope we get that done.

So sorry to hear your back went out again, not surprising with all the heavy work you have to do.
