The third day of our tour took us quite far from Tbilisi, as our tour guide told us that it would take an hour or more to reach our destination. He picked us up at our hotel at seven in the morning. My husband and I were both excited to explore the eastern part of Georgia and discover more of its beautiful landscapes. Since it was still early, I felt sleepy during our journey and decided to take a nap in the car. Before closing my eyes, I asked my husband to wake me up when we were getting close to our destination. My husband gently woke me up, and I immediately looked outside the window. I was surprised by the beautiful scenery surrounding us. Our tour guide told us that we were just a minute away from our destination so I quickly took out my phone to capture some pictures along the way. The view was already incredible with enormous mountains rising into the sky and turquoise water stretching along their base. Some of the mountain peaks were covered in snow making the landscape look even more beautiful. We also passed a massive heart-shaped archway that framed the majestic mountains perfectly. I felt excited because I knew we were about to see something truly special.
When we stepped out of the car, my husband and I went straight to the viewing deck. The moment I saw the breathtaking view in front of me, I was completely stunned. The turquoise waters of Zhinvali Reservoir looked incredibly beautiful. It was surrounded by impressive mountain crests. The tour guide told us that Zhinvali Reservoir is an artificial lake, a hydroelectric reservoir on the Aragvi River that helps supply water to Tbilisi. Learning a little about the place made our visit even more riveting. We understood that this gorgeous stop also plays an important role in the daily lives of the people.
I could hardly resist taking photos of the surroundings. I was completely starstruck by the beauty of nature. Everything looked like a painting. The water was placid and smooth. The striking mountains rose sharply from the water's edge with their slopes covered in thick vegetation and bushes. Taller and more jagged mountains displayed patches of snow while some of the highest peaks were gorgeously snow capped. The mixture of turquoise water, mountains and snowy peaks created a stunning contrast.
My husband and I felt incredibly happy to witness such a wonderful creation of nature. I was filled with admiration and gratitude. Although it was time to continue our journey a part of me wished we could stay a little longer. Zhinvali Reservoir truly captured my heart and leaving was not easy when the scenery was so mesmerizing.
