When the theme for Allyson’s Pinky and Spiky comics making contest dropped as rainy day cabin fever , my mind immediately went to the chaotic scenario, like what happens when the monsoon rains hits non stop literally everyone decides to crowd into Pinky and Spiky’s small cozy cabin. It turns into a total zoo, leaving the poor duo completely speechless right in the middle of it all. Wah wah wah... Something they did not anticipate
Working on this silent comic for my entry is pretty interesting and fun, it was all about filling the canvas with shape and color until this crowded, stormy mess came to life. I didn't get tired or bored tbh. I tried to recall the other characters like Cornelius the purple bird , Betsy the yellow butterfly and look how cute Victor the spider as he sleeps. I almost forgot about Dietrich the mouse he could be represented by the brown character with a sandwich. I used to join pinky and Spiky comics making contest back when @organduo is hosting the contest.
Anyway, I think the positions and proportions of the characters added to the zoo vibe, From snacks scattered around to everyone occupying every square inch of space, I just kept layering the forms and expressions until the story told itself without needing a single speech bubble. Pinky and Spiky standing there looking totally frozen while a whole crowd takes over their living space? That’s peak cabin fever right there.
It’s such a fun challenge to capture a whole scene this is an actual scene I was observing on my phone when I called my siblings back in the Philippines. I checked on them earlier today had a video call when I heard they have nonstop rain and flooding. I got worried upon hearing and had peace of mind when I saw everyone safe dry and warm. Kids laughing out loud, eating, playing games , singing karaoke etc. made me happy to see them happy I missed those gatherings really.
I was laughing too while making this comics they didn't know I included some of them on my comics. Cornelius and the big dog are actually patterned after my two nephews hahaha when I send this to them they will surely laugh too. Hope you guys made your entries too.
