My friends and I planned to go to the beach, and even though I’m more of a “Team Rio” person, the truth is that I also appreciate the beauty of the ocean, so I joined in on those plans—we even set a date. It was actually a really nice day surrounded by nature, but most of all, I got to spend time with my friends in a different setting where there was nothing but beauty all around me.
Since we live in the central part of the country, we had to travel a bit to get to the beautiful Cata Beach. There are several beaches in the state where I live, but most of them are two or more hours away from where I live and where my friends live, so that day we decided to leave super early to arrive on time and make the most of the day. This trip is a little complicated because it goes through the mountains. In fact, I’ve always thought it was pretty crazy that to get to such a sunny, open place, you have to drive through a cool, mountainous area.
We left at 6:30 a.m. and arrived in the town of Ocumare at 8:00 a.m. We stopped there to pick up a few things and then drove a few more minutes to reach our destination. What I love about going to this specific beach is that along the way, you can always see the ocean in the distance. Its grandeur and sheer size are something that, personally, never fail to amaze me—and, if I’m being completely honest, also scare me a little.

There’s also Cata Pública, which is located between two breakwaters, making the waves a little gentler. For some reason, even though they’re right next to each other and it’s the same water, they both have different colors.
In our case, we decided to go to Cata Pública precisely because we wanted to enjoy swimming without having to worry about the waves being too high or anything like that. On the beach, they rent out chairs with umbrellas to protect us from the sun, so we rented one, and that’s where we set up all our things and also had lunch and a snack. When we went for a swim, the staff very kindly watched over all our belongings, and honestly, they did a great job.
I have to say that the ocean in the morning was incredibly beautiful, and we could really appreciate it because people don’t start arriving until after noon—mostly because of the water temperature. Early on, the water is a little cold, but from my perspective, it’s much more enjoyable because you can swim in peace without strangers around, and also because, with no one else around, you feel more at ease knowing nothing will happen to your belongings.

Debo decir que el mar en la mañana estaba increíblemente hermoso y pudo apreciarse bastante bien porque las personas llegan a partir del mediodía, más que nada por la temperatura del agua. Temprano el agua está un poco fría, pero desde mi punto de vista se disfruta mucho más porque puedes bañarte tranquilo sin tener gente extraña cerca y también porque, al no haber nadie por ahí, uno está más tranquilo de que nada va a pasarle a sus pertenencias.

The water sometimes turned a blue-green color, and honestly, it looked absolutely stunning. We spent quite a while swimming there until we decided to get out to take some photos. On the beach, there’s a sort of pier that separates the public beach from a rocky area where, for that very reason, almost no one swims. From this spot, you can see the ocean in the background against a spectacular landscape, which is why most people go there to take their photos—and we did the same.
I have to say that every time I go there for a little while, I lose myself in the moment when I see just how vast the ocean is and how beautiful and peaceful it looks from this vantage point. Some people here also dive into the water, but none of us did because we were all a little scared. However, there were several locals there who were already experts at diving in, and we stayed for a little while watching them do it.
It was a really nice day. You always end up feeling relaxed when you spend the day enjoying nature and all its beauty. Whether you’re a little afraid of the ocean or not, the crystal-clear water and the constant movement of the waves will always be something that, by the end of the day, has helped you release tension and filled you with such awe that you can’t help but feel grateful.

El agua a veces se tornaba de un color azul aguamarina y honestamente se veía espectacularmente hermosa. Ahí estuvimos bañándonos un buen rato hasta que decidimos salir para tomarnos algunas fotos. En la playa hay una especie de muelle que hace una división entre la playa pública y una zona llena de piedras en la que por lo mismo casi nadie se baña. En este lugar se ve el mar de fondo en un paisaje espectacular, por eso la mayoría de las personas van a tomarse sus fotos ahí y nosotros hicimos lo mismo.
Debo decir que cada vez que voy a este lugar por un rato me pierdo del presente al ver lo enorme que es el mar y lo bonito y pacífico que se ve desde este punto. Aquí también algunas personas se lanzan para caer al agua, pero ninguno de nosotros lo hizo porque a todos nos dio algo de miedo, pero en este lugar había varias personas de la zona que ya eran expertas en cómo lanzarse y nos quedamos un ratito también observando cómo lo hacían.
El día estuvo bastante lindo. Uno siempre termina relajado cuando pasa el día disfrutando de la naturaleza y de las bellezas que hay en ella.
