STREETS, DOGS, OTHER THINGS, AND EVEN A CAT... (PHOTOGRAPHY SERIES)

Tcats.jpg

Sometimes when I walk through the streets of this town that seems to be falling apart, my thoughts become abstract. And I don't mean that I'm evading reality or trying to deceive myself, because I know perfectly well how complex my surroundings are and how harsh the realities are for the people around me, and even for myself. But I do mean that all this playing the role of "observer" so frequently (I'm referring to the time I spend taking photos in the streets) has inadvertently given me the ability to detach myself from it all and observe things as they unfold in a relatively detached way. Nor am I saying that I'm becoming indifferent to the needs of my surroundings; no, the truth is that I have a great deal of solidarity with everyone here. But this business of taking photos inevitably leads me to understand and observe daily events a bit like a flowing river, and it's then that I perceive myself as standing on the bank, not letting myself be carried away by the current... And, wow, because of all this that I'm trying to describe here, I said at the beginning that my thoughts become abstract, because the clarity of rationality is something that—from my point of view—ties us to the harshness of life here, but these brief spaces of abstraction generate certain intervals of equanimity that I can't help but call peace...
