Maintaining good habits is much harder than it seems, but I think I've managed to stick with it to some extent. One of the hardest things for me to change is my mindset around food. The idea that eating something different from what you planned ruins all your hard work is something I, at least for myself, don't want to keep nurturing. Eating something off-plan doesn't mean you've failed.
I think the important thing is to learn to be aware that what can really harm us is excess and a lack of balance. When you start changing your habits and open yourself up to a new world where you seek to feel better, have more energy, and take care of yourself, you can also easily fall into the opposite extreme: overthinking everything you eat and developing an unhealthy relationship with food.
I'm trying to find that middle ground. I want to eat well because I need energy to train, run, box, and get on with my daily life, but I also want to be able to enjoy a different meal without feeling guilty. Ultimately, taking care of myself also means taking care of my mind and understanding that food doesn't define my progress or turn a good day into a bad one.
