It was the second day of our long-weekend getaway, and we were already full of energy and ready to go trekking as planned. After a journey that had lasted almost twelve hours from the city of Buenos Aires to the town of Saavedra, in the interior of the province, we were ready to start our longest adventure. Although we had arrived at night the day before and had walked around a little, we were all excited to see what the place would look like during the day. It seemed that the good weather wouldn't be on our side that day, but at least the conditions were suitable for a good hike, starting with the trail to Huellas de Amistad Refuge 😃.

Era nuestro segundo día de paseo de fin de semana largo y ya estábamos con toda la energía lista para hacer el trekking que nos habíamos propuesto. Despues de un traslado que duró casi doce horas desde la ciudad de Buenos Aires hasta el pueblo de Saavedra en el interior de la provincia, estábamos listos para empezar la aventura más larga. A pesar de que el día anterior habíamos llegado de noche y caminamos un poco, todos estábamos emocionados por ver cómo se vería ese lugar de día. Parecía que el buen clima no nos acompañaría ese día, pero al menos se prestó como para hacer una buena caminata, empezando por tramo hasta el Refugio Huellas de Amistad 😃.

The main idea of this trek was to cover as much of the Cura Malal Range as possible. In the interior of Buenos Aires Province, there is a series of small elevations formed by the Tandilia and Ventania mountain systems, which is what gives our province some "mountains." With the trekking group I had met a few months earlier, we decided to visit this range, very close to the town of Saavedra, about 500 km from home. To do that, we had stayed in a refuge the night before (in my case, I preferred to camp), and the next morning we started the hike around 8 AM.

La idea principal de este trekking era recorrer la mayor parte posible del Cordón Cura Malal. En el interior de Buenos Aires hay una serie de pequeñas elevaciones formados por los sistemas de Tandilia y Ventania, que es lo que hace que nuestra provincia tenga algunas "montañas". Con el grupo de trekking que había conocido algunos meses atrás, decidimos ir a visitar este cordón, muy cercano a la localidad de Saavedra, a unos 500 km de casa. Para eso, la noche anterior nos habíamos hospedado en un refugio (en mi caso, yo preferí acampar), y a la mañana siguiente empezamos la caminata alrededor de las 8 AM.

Since we were exploring a mountain range, the first part was all uphill, on terrain full of rocks and dirt. During our trek, we would first reach Huellas de Amistad Refuge, an interesting place from where we would have a good view of the valley (or of whatever the clouds would allow us to see). On that long-weekend getaway, the trekking group consisted of more than 15 people, and everyone went at their own pace, so it took us more than an hour to reach the refuge, even though it wasn't that far from where we had started. Although I know I could have made it in half an hour or less, going in a group is fun and allows you to walk a little more relaxed.

Al estar explorando un cordón, la primera parte era todo subida en un terreno lleno de piedras y tierra. En nuestra travesía, primera llegaríamos al Refugio Huellas de Amistad, un lugar interesante desde donde tendríamos una buena vista del valle (o de lo que las nubes nos permitieran ver). En ese paseo de fin de semana largo, el grupo de trekking estaba compuesto por más de 15 personas y cada uno iba a su ritmo, por lo que llegar hasta el refugio nos tomó más de una hora aunque no era tan lejos de donde estábamos al principio. Si bien yo sé que podría haber llegado en media hora o menos, ir en grupo es divertido como para ir caminando un poco más relajado.

Once at the refuge, we had the opportunity to explore it inside. It was a small little house with a semicircular roof, and just as we had been promised, we had a good view of the valley. This refuge belongs to the same owners as the refuge where we were staying at the base, who give you the option of spending the night there for the same price. On that occasion, our guide Guille thought that, since the group was quite large, we would be uncomfortable in such a small place, so the plan was just to visit it for a while in the morning. That was a very smart decision on his part, since it really was a small space.

Una vez en el Refugio, tuvimos la oportunidad de explorarlo por dentro. Se trataba de una pequeña casita con el techo en forma de semicirculo, y tal cual cómo nos habían prometido, teníamos una buena vista del valle. Este refugio pertenece a los mismos dueños del refugio en el que estábamos en la base, los cuales te dan la opción de pasar la noche ahí por el mismo precio. En esa oportunidad, nuestro guía Guille consideró que, como el grupo era bastante grande, íbamos a estar incómodos en un lugar tan pequeño, así que el plan fue solo visitarlo un rato por la mañana. Esa decisión fue muy inteligente de su parte, ya que de verdad era un espacio reducido.

The stop at Huellas de Amistad Refuge was a chance to enjoy the valley viewpoint for a while and take a few pictures. For this trekking trip, I had bought myself a new pair of pants in a somewhat discreet color, as you can see in the photos. I loved how my Barbie-colored outfit stood out on the gray day we were having: several people mentioned that it added a little extra color to the landscape. When everyone was ready, we continued on our way towards the other peaks of the mountain range: the outing had only just begun ❤️.

La parada en el Refugio Huellas de Amistad sirvió para disfrutar un rato del mirador del valle y poder tomarnos unas cuantas fotos. Para esta salida de trekking yo me había comprado un pantalón nuevo, con un color un poco discreto, como podrán ver en las fotos. Me encantó que mi outfit del color de Barbie resaltara en el día gris que estábamos teniendo: varias personas mencionaron que agregaba un poco de color extra al paisaje. Cuando todos estuvimos listos continuamos nuestro camino hacia los demás picos del cordón montañoso: el paseo apenas había empezado ❤️.
