Daily Blog - Last night in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil: trying brigadeiros and self-service ice cream before atching our flight. / Última noche en Foz de Iguazú, Brasil: probando brigadeiros y helado autoservicio antes de subir al avión.😃❤️

Time really flies when you're having fun, and that was exactly what happened when I went on vacation with my dad to the city of Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil. Eight nights in the neighboring country turned into the perfect opportunity to wander around from one place to another and try (unsuccessfully) to get some rest after long months of working full-time. We had some incredible days and enjoyed every last moment of them. If there was one thing we never ran out of, it was food, which we didn't want to stop trying, not even on our last night there.

El tiempo realmente vuela cuando uno se divierte y así fue cuando fui de vacaciones con mi papá a la ciudad de Foz de Iguazú en Brasil. Ocho noches de estadía en el país vecino se convirtieron en la oportunidad perfecta para pasear de acá para allá, e intentar (fallidamente) descansar después de largos meses de trabajo full time. Tuvimos unos días increíbles, en los que disfrutamos hasta el último momento. Si hay algo que no faltó fue la comida, que no quisimos dejar de probar ni siquiera en nuestra última noche por ahí ❤️.

At the beginning of this trip, I was a little worried and wanted to make sure everything would be comfortable. It was quite a challenge for me to find accommodation in a city I had never visited before, because I wasn't sure what would be a good location. In the end, after doing quite a bit of research online, I found a nice hotel in the old center of Foz do Iguaçu, very close to the bus terminal. It was also located on a main street, so we had several restaurants nearby that we tried during those days. My dad really liked one of them, and we ended up going there three times, including for dinner on our last night.

Al principio de este viaje estaba algo preocupada queriendo que todo sea cómodo. Fue un gran desafío para mí buscar alojamiento en una ciudad que nunca había visitado antes, porque no tenía claro cuál sería una buena ubicación. Finalmente, después de leer bastante en internet, terminé encontrando un buen hotel en el centro viejo de Foz de Iguazú, muy cerca de la terminal de buses. También estaba sobre una calle principal, por lo que teníamos varios restaurantes que probamos en esos días. A mi papá le gustó mucho uno al que fuimos tres veces, incluida la cena de nuestra última noche.

At that restaurant, we tried burritos, tacos, burgers, and meat with different side dishes. On our last night, while we were eating, a guy showed up who said he was a culinary student, selling the typical Brazilian brigadeiros. I had heard of them before, but I had never tried them. For about $5, he sold us four of these “chocolates,” which were kind of like truffles with different flavors. They were really delicious, and they made the perfect dessert to make sure we didn't leave Brazil without trying them.

En ese restaurante probamos burritos, tacos, hamburguesas y carne con distintas guarniciones. En nuestra última noche, mientras estábamos comiendo, apareció un chico quien dijo ser un estudiante a chef, vendiendo los típicos brigadeiros brasileños. Yo había escuchado de estos, pero hasta el momento no los había probado. Por unos $5, nos vendió cuatro de estos "bombones", unas especie de trufas de distintos sabores. La verdad eran muy deliciosos, y fue un postre perfecto para que no nos fuéramos de Brasil sin probarlos.

Actually, the brigadeiros were a surprise dessert, because I already had a dessert in mind for that day. On the street where our hotel was located, there was a small self-service ice cream shop. I had never seen a place where you had to make your own ice cream cup, so I wanted to give it a try as well. There was a large counter where you could choose your flavors, sauces, and toppings, and then they charged you by the weight of the cup. One of the flavors I chose was açaí, a fruit from this country that is somewhat similar to a blueberry. It was a fresh and delicious ice cream, perfect for the hot night we were having.

En realidad, lo de los brigadeiros fue un postre sorpresa, porque yo ya tenía pensado en cual sería el postre de ese día. En la calle de nuestro hotel había un pequeño local de helados autoservicio. Yo nunca había visto un lugar en el que tuvieras que prepararte tu propia copa de helado, así que también quería intentarlo. En este lugar, había un gran mostrador en donde elegías los gustos, salsas y toppings, y luego te cobraban la copa por peso. Uno de los gustos que elegí fue el de Açai, una fruta de este país, algo similar a un arándano. Era un helado fresco y delicioso, perfecto para esa noche calurosa que estábamos teniendo.

Once we finished dinner and everything else, my dad and I toasted with our ice creams, grateful for the amazing stay we had. The next day was already a working Monday for me, so we got up at 6 AM to take a taxi from Foz to Puerto Iguazú, where our 9:45 AM flight was waiting for us, arriving in Buenos Aires at 11:30 AM. I was expected back at work at 2 PM, and after having to cross the entire city from the airport to the southern part of Buenos Aires, I arrived just in time. I want to thank Aerolíneas Argentinas for the punctuality of their flight, because otherwise I wouldn't have been able to make it back early enough for my first day after vacation.

Cuando terminamos de cenar y todo, mi papá y yo brindamos con nuestros helados, agradeciendo la estadía genial que habíamos tenido. Al día siguiente ya era lunes laborable para mí, así que nos levantamos a las 6 AM para tomar un taxi desde Foz hasta Puerto Iguazú, en donde nos esperaba nuestro vuelo a las 9.45 AM con arribo a Buenos Aires a las 11.30 AM. En mi trabajo me esperaban a las 2 PM, y después de tener que atravesar toda la ciudad desde el aeropuerto hasta la zona sur, llegué justo a tiempo. Quiero agradecer a Aerolíneas Argentinas por la puntualidad de su vuelo, sino no hubiese podido llegar temprano a mi primer día después de las vacaciones.

This whole trip to Foz do Iguaçu to visit the beautiful Iguazu Falls will always have a special place in my heart for several reasons. The main one was accompanying my dad to see this natural wonder, and luckily everything went well because he absolutely loved the place. I love it too, which is why I decided to visit for a third time. These were also my first vacation after getting my first full-time job as an engineer, which allowed me to travel with a more generous budget than I had always been used to. It was an incredible few days that, even though we got pretty tired, left me feeling completely recharged: thanks Universe for that ❤️.

Todo este viaje a Foz de Iguazú para visitar las hermosas Cataratas del Iguazú siempre va a quedar en mi corazón por varias razones. La principal era acompañar a mi papá a ver esta maravilla de la naturaleza, y por suerte todo salió bien con eso porque le encantó el lugar. A mi también me gusta mucho, y es por eso que decidí ir por tercera vez. También fueron mis primeras vacaciones después de haber conseguido mi primer trabajo full time como ingeniera, lo que me permitió tener un paseo con un presupuesto más holgado de lo que estaba acostumbrada siempre. Fueron unos días increíbles que, aunque nos cansamos bastante, me recargaron las energías al máximo: gracias por eso, Universo ❤️.
