Argentina - Trip to Saavedra in the Buenos Aires countryside and the beginning of the adventure with a nighttime trek. 😃❤️

If there's one thing I can't do for too long, it's sit still. I always have a plan in mind, a trip on the horizon, or at least an outing to look forward to in my day-to-day life. Now that I work Monday through Friday, my free time is a little more limited, but luckily, I found a group of travelers who organize weekend trips. During the long weekend in April, we organized a trip to the mountainous area of Buenos Aires, specifically to the town of Saavedra. I had never been there before, so it was the perfect opportunity to disconnect for a while 😃.

When you think of Buenos Aires, you probably picture the Obelisk and everything around the city, but the reality is that the province is huge and has so much more to offer. It even has some interesting mountain ranges where you can get some exercise and enjoy nature. To find these landscapes, you have to travel about 500 kilometers south, towards the Tandilia and Ventania mountain systems. That's exactly where we headed with the trekking group, to the Sierra de la Ventana area.

The long Easter weekend consisted of Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday off, so we started our trip early on Saturday. The trekking group had organized a visit to a place called Estancia Cerro Áspero, and according to the map, it would take us about eight hours to get there. In reality, my small group and I took our time, stopping for lunch, stretching our legs, and having some coffee, so we eventually arrived at the estancia after dark. It took us almost 11 hours to get there, and since we were the last ones to arrive, they were waiting for us to start a nighttime adventure. When we arrived, the estancia was basically a large open field with a mountain-style shelter, but since there were spiders and all kinds of insects around, I decided to pitch a tent and sleep outside 😂.

The great thing about this estancia was that it was located right at the foot of a mountainous area called Cordón Lehman. The next day, in daylight, we would explore it more thoroughly, but Guille, our guide, had the idea of going on a nighttime hike and taking advantage of the full moon. I was really excited about this outing, since it had been several months since I had last visited the mountains. I came prepared with my headlamp and all my trekking gear, ready for the adventure. On this short hike, we probably covered around three kilometers through grass, rocks, and some elevation. We found another small shelter and a viewpoint overlooking the valley (which, obviously, we couldn't see much of in the darkness, although the moon did a beautiful job lighting up the landscape).

Our first day of the long weekend had started out pretty tiring, since the drive was quite long. However, I was happy to have arrived with enough energy at the end of the day to keep walking for a little while longer. Throughout all my travels, I haven't had many opportunities to go on nighttime hikes, so I didn't want to miss this experience. Any chance I get to explore a new place is an opportunity I'll take, and this was a great one to discover the surroundings of this town called Saavedra. We were just getting started on the adventure, and even though we hadn't seen much yet, I was already more than excited 😃.

Hola @lauramica !! Que cerquita estuviste de Bahía Blanca!! A escasos 130 kilómetros.

Preciosas tomas nocturnas, querida amoiha @lauramica.

It’s great that you landed a Monday-to-Friday job; that way, you have the whole weekend to take short trips.

You made a great choice joining the weekend outings organized by this group; the place they picked to visit is beautiful.

To be honest, I had read about the town of Saavedra, but I didn't realize there was such a diverse landscape to explore.

It’s wonderful that you made the most of your stay there and organized a night walk to explore the area.

Beautiful night shots, my dear friend @lauramica. I appreciate you sharing this whole weekend adventure with us.

I think life is enjoyed by people who go out on weekends. There is a real, special and relaxing life in the mountains and among the trees. There is a special and relaxing life there.

Saludos
