Sometimes when find myself in a situation I did not like, I used sit and think about how different my life could have been if I had made different choices. Maybe I had taken a different opportunity, listened to different advice, met different people, or simply decided to take a different path at a certain point. It makes me wonder, are we really in control of where our lives are going, or are some things already meant to happen?
Personally, I believe it is a mixture of both choices and fate. But if I had to choose which one has more influence, I would say our choices.
There are so many things in life that we have no control over. We don't choose the family we are born into, the place we are born, or some of the situations we find ourselves in. Sometimes something happens unexpectedly and completely changes our plans. It could be losing an opportunity, meeting someone who changes your life, or even going through a difficult experience that you never expected.
Those things can make us feel like fate is controlling everything. But I also believe that what we do after those situations happen matters a lot.
Do you know that two people can go through a similar difficult experience but respond to it in completely different ways. One person might allow the experience to discourage them completely, while another might use it as a reason to become stronger and keep moving forward. The situation may not have been their choice, but their response to it is. I think that is where our choices become important.
Even the small decisions we make every day can affect our future. Deciding to learn something new, choosing to work hard, staying away from certain negative influences, apologising when we are wrong, or simply deciding not to give up can all have an impact. We may not notice the results immediately, but over time, these little choices can add up.
At the same time, I don't think we should blame ourselves for everything that happens in our lives. Sometimes we can make the best decision we can and things still don't work out. Life doesn't always follow the plan we have in our heads. There are things that are simply outside our control.
That is why I don't believe that our future is completely determined by either fate or our choices. Maybe life gives us certain circumstances, but we decide what to do with them.
I like to think of it this way, fate may put certain things in our path, but we still have some say in which direction we take. We cannot always control the beginning of a situation, but we can often control our next step.
Looking back at my own life, there are choices I wish I had made differently, and there are also things that happened that I had absolutely no control over. But both have played a part in making me who I am today.
So, for me, the future isn't something that is completely written in advance. I believe we have a role in creating it. We may not be able to control every situation that comes our way, but we can control many of the decisions we make along the way.
And sometimes, I think that's the most comforting part. We don't have to know exactly what the future holds. We just have to make the best choices we can with what we know today and keep moving forward.
