When it comes to shark movies, there is undeniably a vast number of films in this genre that keep us on the edge of our seats from start to finish. Personally, I’m a fan of these kinds of stories; I’ve always enjoyed watching them because the adrenaline rush they provide is unbeatable. And even though there are plenty of bad movies in the genre, that hasn’t stopped me from checking out new releases—including the film I stumbled upon by chance last night and want to talk about today: The Devil’s Mouth. Directed by Jeff Walklow and starring Kathrin Newton (Sara), Lana Condor (Max), and Gavin Casalegno (Greg), it’s a movie I really enjoyed, so I recommend it if you haven’t seen it yet.

It’s about a group of friends who decide to go on an excursion to some caves deep off the coast of Thailand, and when they arrive, they ask the guide (Tayme Thapthimton) to take them on the most difficult route, called “the Devil’s Mouth,” without realizing they were setting the stage for their own tragedy—since a huge shark is lurking there, having made itsay into the caves after a massive flood that occurred days before they arrived.
The story unfolds as they explore the caves, and while they’re diving, they realize that one of them is missing; they find his mask, shattered by a shark’s tooth, and panic spreads among them all as they struggle to understand how that shark got there. From that moment on, a series of scenes unfolds in which they try to find escape routes, clashing with the guide, who decides to leave them and go alone in search of help.
Finding themselves alone, they decide to keep moving forward since they aren’t sure if the guide will come back for them. This sparks another argument within the group over which route to take; two friends fight over who will lead the group, and in the end, they decide to take a path that ultimately turns out to be a mistake. They lose two of their friends, and the adrenaline spikes to the max when only two members of the group remain, and the person you’d least expect will be the one to achieve the unimaginable, leading to a rather surprising ending.

Al verse solos deciden nuevamente seguir avanzando ya que no tienen certeza si el guía regresara por ellos, siendo motivo de otra discusión en el grupo, para decidir que ruta tomar, dos amigas se peleen por el liderazgo del grupo y al final deciden ir por un camino que al final de cuentas será para peor, pierden a dos de sus amigos y la adrenalina sube al máximo cuando solo quedan dos del grupo, y quien te menos te imagines será quien logre lo inimaginable teniendo un final bastante sorprendente.
One of my favorite scenes was when Max and Sara were climbing up the cliff face, and the shark suddenly appeared, making me jump out of my seat—and what happened next was quite intense and unexpected; just like the scene’s climax, it was quite thrilling, and the protagonist demonstrated her bravery and courage. [But not everything was perfect; I also think there are several aspects that had a negative impact on the film, such as the darkness that prevailed during many of the scenes, which made it hard to appreciate the details of the setting, I also think the guide could have played a more prominent role in the film—since he was the most prepared member of the group, he ended up being a minor character. Despite this, the movie had action, suspense, and drama, so I assure you that you won’t be bored.
