The thing is, I believe that the way we frame time perception, decide how we see everything in our life and that can make you feel like you're losing out on many things, as for instance, Alice measures time by day, and Bob measure time by week. Some measure time by year or like companies for instance, they do it quarterly. Whatever you decide,
Let's think of it this way,
Alice said she made 1,000 in just seven days and Bob said, he only made $1,000 this week. Both actually earn the exact same amount of money in the same amount of time. Now, how you perceive it depends on how you choose to measure it.
This has become a fascination to me because if you followed me long enough, I always do 90 days challenges of something. I measure my progress every-single-day and even create a check-boxes for it. Unfortunately, it only lasted for a while. So, I've been trying to find ways to understand my framework of thinking so I can use a proper method to achieve everything I want in life.
And I am big proponent that all these things aren't something you can just copy, you have to do the work. You can listen to others experience but that's about it. The faster you find how your brain works and how you perceive time, the easier it gets.
Now, I learned that I operate in weeks. It is much easier to see progression of something in week timeframe than daily time frame. It has a lot to do with how I perceive time. For instance, I can get a lot things done in just 4 hours of what supposed to be a month worth of work. So, I never like the idea of daily pay or monthly pay. I would prefer it hourly and weekly pay because it makes a lot of sense to me.
At the same time, when it comes to goal progression, I hate to track every little thing daily. Instead, I much rather see progression in a week. It's much better to visualize and gives me tangible motivation boost than if something were to be tracked monthly.
I find it really fascinating because let me illustrate something :
- Lose weight 2kg in 30 days
- Lose weight 2kg in 4 weeks
- Lose weight 2kg in 1 month
I don't know what you will close, let me know in the comment section but to my brain, I only register 4 weeks because it is short enough to see progression but also not short enough to feel like it's a scam.
Similarly If you frame things to me like
- You can finish university in 4 years
- You can finish university in 208 weeks
- You can finish university in about 1460 days
I'd still choose I can finish university in 208 weeks. That still is the sweetest spot for me. It looks manageable and makes sense than 4 years.
Once you understand your own framework to time, it gets easier as well because rather than following what people out there do, find your understanding and framework of time to create the life that you want. But still everything compounds, whatever you do that week, will also influence the rest of your year. Think of it this way, if you workout like 40 hours/week that is still something compared to do 0 workout/week. If you save up $50/week in 100 weeks, that's already $5000. Once you also realize how time flies that fast, that $5000 can be that sweet money gift. Or maybe you make commitment to invest $100 towards a stock/bond/week. In 52 weeks, that's already 5200 stocks portfolio if everything is stagnant. Now, think about it. If you can save up 100HP/week that's 5200 HP in 52 weeks. I can go on and on.
At the end of the day, it takes me 29 years to find this pattern. Maybe you can find yours faster and find something that makes sense to you then turn your life around.
