Interior Design for the Financially Unwell With Unlimited Delusions

Hear me out, I've always been a sucker for pinterest dreamy home. Anyone in my family knows, I dream of squeezing a swimming pool inside the house, somehow, anywhere didn't matter how small the space was or how ridiculous that sounded. My delusion is pretty unlimited when it comes to interior design & architecture.

But, at one point, we have to realize nothing will ever change especially when we have zero budget to improve the livability of our home. So, I decided to finally work with what I have, the existing conditions. This time though, I am armed with a little knowledge from one of my classes and yep, AI( all credit to chatgpt for giving me ideas to improve the layout in my home).

Guess what's funny? I showed the ideas to my mom and these days, she believes AI more than I do which is pretty concerning. But hey, if I can finally convince her to improve our life and environment, why not?

The first area we worked on

It really all started because nowadays, I don't study at my own room anymore. I'm too lazy to go upstairs and sit at a desk with a chair and table that have terrible ergonomics, which I only recently came to realize. That's why nowadays, I always work from the dining table except as you can see above, it was filled with stuff, junk, and even food. So, I was fighting over space with all those junk until I decided, well this shouldn't be too depressing.

We had some makeovers before but it didn't last long. Nowadays, I want more practicality and enliven our space which at some point made me feel like the house is occupied by spirits, ET and my cats too. There I was with a not-so-free afternoon ( as I was listening to a seminar on Data Science) I began my work turning my dining area into a hybrid space.

"Make sure it said ZERO cost", my mother protested and emphasized on the word ZERO as I was showing her some results from the prompts I generated through ChatGPT. Here are some results that it first generated for me. The AI added some more upgrades which for the financially unwell (red: poor) is not something feasible.

Some of the ridiculous results by ChatGPT

So, I finetune the result in a bit and got the one what we both liked and looked pretty decent. Once we did, we moved the heavy table and changed the layout. In the end, I also change the lighting of the place. At first we use the white light but it did not complement the overall layout. I browsed around the house to find the yellow-ish lightbulb that we have and found one that matches the vibe. Now, I can feel like I am working from a cozy cafe.

We also added a live plants in our dining table. Well, we prefer something low maintenance because we do not have time to water them. So we picked something from our abandoned yard, a plant which thrives with only water. That elevates the look for our dining table. Look, I know this is supposed to be a dining area but actually neither my mom and I eat from here because we have 5 munchkins who constantly bother us whenever we dine. But it's interesting how once we clear up our other spaces, they do not lounge around the dining area anymore.

I played out some jazz and saxophone playlist with a coffee on my side and life feels 100000x better than it was. In case you need an upgrade with a zero budget and unlimited delusions, you can try it my way. Who knows, you'll find the best way to enliven your space, make it more functional and liveable.

And most importantly, get rid all the clutters. AI won't do it for us yet, so we have to do the leg work. My mother and I got rid some of the junk that was sitting on the table, our living room and places where they should stop exist. Now, our house is more guest-friendly despite the roof that's somewhat about to fall apart 😂but I'll treat it like one of those mobile game where you slowly upgrade things as your life get somewhat better from being impoverished to thriving.

See you around!
