Today I’m bringing you an analysis of a trilogy I recently discovered—or rather, of one of the three books: the first one, *Cities of Smoke*.
Hoy les traigo un análisis de una trilogía que descubrí recientemente, bueno más propiamente de uno de los tres libros, el primero, Ciudades de Humo
Overview/Resumen
Alice is an android—a humanoid robot—who lived in a perfectly controlled environment that kept her in a state of comfort. However, when the world she knows begins to fall apart, she is forced to move to a new setting: "The Real World," better known as "Central City." Thrust out of her controlled environment and perfect existence, Alice must learn to survive and adapt to her new reality; she has to use weapons and defend herself, as well as integrate into a community and follow its rules. Fortunately, she manages to make friends, and it is there that she meets Rhett, with whom a romantic tension develops.
Alice es una androide, es decir, un robot humanoide, ella vivía en un entorno perfectamente controlado que la hacía vivir en un estado de confort hasta que ese mundo que conoce comienza a destruirse y ella se ve obligada a cambiar de entorno, lo que se conocería como "El mundo real" mejor conocido como "Ciudad Central". Al verse fuera de su zona de control, de su perfecto mundo controlado, Alice tiene que aprender a sobrevivir y adaptarse a su nueva realidad, debe usar armas y aprender a defenderse por su cuenta y también debe integrarse a una comunidad y aprender a adaptarse a sus reglas, pero afortunadamente logra hacer amigos y es allí donde conoce a Rhett con quién surge una tensión romántica.
My Opinion/Mi Opinión
The book is narrated in such a way that you can feel the tension in the air; when Alice arrives in the new city, no one knows her true origins—no one realizes she is a machine—so they treat her naturally. Meanwhile, forced to act like a human and interact with others, she gradually discovers the workings of complex human emotions such as sarcasm, irony, and even love.
El libro está narrado de tal manera que puedes sentir la tensión en el ambiente ya que cuando Alice llega a esa nueva ciudad todos desconocen su verdadero origen, todos ignoran que ella es una máquina, así que actúan de manera natural con ella, y ella por su parte al verse obligada a actuar como los humanos y convivir con ellos poco a poco va descubriendo también como funcionan las complejas emociones humanas como el sarcasmo, la ironía e incluso el amor.
Furthermore, the stark contrast between the methodical, carefully structured life established by Alice’s father—her creator—and the life of freedom and complexity she later experiences raises questions about the true meaning of freedom itself. Freedom can sometimes signify chaos and the responsibility of facing consequences, yet it also represents power over oneself and one’s own choices; it is a process of self-discovery—defining one’s tastes and priorities, weighing risks, and devising strategies to survive or live independently. It is not an easy journey, as Alice’s experience demonstrates, but when life pulls you out of your comfort zone, you have no choice but to either succumb to the chaos or face it with courage and move forward.
Por otra parte el marcado contraste entre la vida metódica y cuidadosamente estructurada marcada por el padre/creador de Alice, con la vida de libertades y complejidades que ella experimenta más tarde, plantea el verdadero sentido de la libertad misma, la libertad significa caos a veces, es responsabilidad de consecuencias pero también es poder sobre uno mismo y sus propias decisiones, es aprender a autoconocerse y definir gustos, prioridades, analizar riesgos y trazar estrategias para sobrevivir o vivir por su propia cuenta, no es un proceso fácil y Alice lo demuestra, pero cuando la vida te saca de una zona de confort no queda más que sucumbir ante el caos o afrontarlo con gallardía para continuar.
Alice is not a flat character; she possesses many nuances and undergoes an interesting evolution, moving from innocence and blind obedience toward her creator—accepting his structured routines—to a life full of complexities where she often takes the lead, learns to think for herself like a human, and even learns to feel, making every episode feel truly exciting.
Alice no es un personaje plano, tiene muchos matices y experimenta una evolución interesante, pasa de la inocencia y obediencia ciega ante su creador, aceptando sus rutinas estructuradas, a una vida llena de complejidades donde muchas veces asume el liderazgo, donde aprende a pensar por si misma como lo haría un humano e incluso aprende a sentir, así que cada episodio se siente muy emocionante.
